CHAPTER TWO:

THE FIRST ATTACK

THE SUN FINALLY set in the town of Woodsboro, the crickets chirping all throughout the grass as people kept put in their homes, too scared to go out after the brutal murders of Casey and Steve. The moon shined through the windows of the houses in the neighborhoods, curtains closing to make sure no one was peaking through.

The Prescott household was quiet as no lights could be seen on, showing that the people inside were probably sleeping. The steps were creaking loudly as Y/n moved down the stairs after she had gotten out of the shower, thankful to Sidney for letting her stay at her home while the police investigated her house and Sidney's dad was gone for the time being.

The girl had just gotten off the phone with Tatum, who her and Sidney had been talking to earlier as they talked about Tatum staying the night as well, the Riley girl talking about how practice went late and she was heading to the video store. Seeing the lights were all off, the girl turns on the living room light when she notices Sidney sleeping on the couch.

Whispering out her name, Y/n moves to crouch beside the couch as she gently shakes the Prescott girl awake. The brunette jumps awake, relaxing once she notices who it was in front of her. Moving her bangs out of the way, she rubs her forehead with a tired sigh as Y/n lets out an apology for startling her.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to startle you." Y/n tells her.

Sidney sighs, sitting up. "It's alright. Where's Tatum? How come she's not here yet?"

"Practice ran late, so she's heading to the video store and then she's on her way." Y/n informs, noticing how tense the girl was. "Sid, you okay?"

"Yeah, it's just..." Sidney begins, rubbing her forehead. "All the news reporters and the police, it brings back deja vu."

Y/n rubs her arm gently. "I'm sorry, Sid."

The girl only shrugs as she looks up to make eye contact with one of her best friends, the two girls staring at one another with small smiles on their faces. Sidney gently rests her head on top of Y/n's as she gives her hand a squeeze just when the phone rings. Thinking it's Tatum, Y/n grabs the phone and puts it to her ear.

"Tatum, just get in the car--" Y/n starts.

"Hello, Y/n." A deep voice greets, interrupting her.

At the sound of this, her body tenses as she moves the phone away from her ear, staring at the phone in confusion while Sidney stares at her curiously. Her fingers moves to the speaker button on the phone, holding it close enough for both her and Sidney to hear.

"Uh..." Y/n stutters out. "Hi, who is this?"

"You tell me." The voice replies.

"Well, I have no idea." Y/n states. "Are you looking to speak to Sidney? I can go get her."

"Scary night, isn't it?" The person comments, ignoring her question. "With the murders and all, it's like right out of a horror movie or something."

Sidney chuckles. "Randy, you gave yourself away. Are you calling from work, cause Tatum's on her way over."

"Do you guys like scary movies?" The person asks.

"I like that thing you're doing with your voice, Randy. It's sexy." Sidney tells him.

"What's your favorite scary movie?" The person continues with the questions.

"Oh, come on. You know neither of us watch that shit." Y/n reminds.

"Why not? Too scared?" The person questions.

Sidney shakes her head. "No. It's just, what's the point? They're all the same. Some stupid killer stalking some big breasted girl who can't act, who's always running up the stairs when she should be going out the front door."

"It's honestly insulting." Y/n adds.

"Are you two alone in the house?" The voice asks.

Y/n sighs. "Randy, that's so unoriginal. I'm disappointed in you."

"Maybe that's because I'm not Randy." The voice reveals.

At this, both girls felt themselves tense as Sidney's gaze froze at the window when she went to look outside in hopes of seeing Tatum. She snapped her head towards Y/n, who was still holding the phone and already looking at her.

"So, who are you?" Y/n hesitantly questions.

"The question isn't 'who am I'? The question is 'where am I'?" The person tells them.

"So, where are you?" Sidney asks, forcing out a slight laugh.

"Your front porch." The person replies, causing the two of them to freeze.

Sidney frowns in confusion, venturing to the front door with Y/n right behind her. "Why would you be calling from my front porch?"

"That's the original part." The person states.

"Oh, yeah?" Sidney mumbles, grabbing the phone from Y/n. "Well, I call your bluff."

Next thing Y/n knew, she was unlocking the front door before stepping outside, making her tense even more. No one was standing on the front porch, only Sidney. Y/n stayed at the opened door, body too tense to step outside as Sidney continues to look around.

"So, where are you?" Sidney questions.

"Right here." The person slowly replies.

Sidney only took a glance back at Y/n before she moved to the end of the front porch, glancing around as she leaned over the edge to look for the person speaking, though there was no one. Hesitantly, Y/n stepped outside as she looked the other way. Sidney felt a smile twitching on her lips, disbelief in her gaze.

"Can you see us right now?" Sidney asks, getting a hum before she put her finger in her nose. "What am I doing? Huh? What am I doing? Hello! Nice try, Randy. Tell Tatum to hurry up, okay? Bye now."

"If you hang up on me, you'll die just like your mother!" The person exclaims, making them tense up. "Do you wanna die, Sidney? Your mother sure didn't."

"Fuck you, you cretin!" Sidney grunts out.

Frantically, she reached over and grabbed Y/n's hand before pulling her inside, quickly closing the door behind them. Y/n felt her hands shaking as she watched Sidney lock the door with the chain, both of them looking out the window in hopes of seeing the person they had been talking to. They didn't notice the door opening behind them until it slammed against the wall.

Immediately, both spun around as a person in a ghostface mask and black robe ran straight towards them, holding up a sharp knife to show their true intentions. Y/n let out a scream as the person grabbed ahold of her by the arms, throwing her off to the side as the girl landed on the floor, back hitting the wall.

Sidney quickly ducked when the person swung at her, knocked to the floor with them right on top of her afterwards. The brunette struggled underneath them, black dots filling her vision when he slammed her head against the floor. She felt the sharp knife caress along her jaw, the person's hand at her throat.

Just as they held the knife up, about to stab her, Y/n came charging and practically tackled the person to the floor. As she did that, Sidney rushed to the door, only for it to open a slight bit from the chain lock. Y/n was crawling away on the floor as the person got back up to their feet, speeding straight to the Prescott girl.

The knife stabbed into the door as Sidney dodged, sprinting towards Y/n. She helped the girl up to her feet before they were sprinting upstairs, hand in hand with the murderer right after them. They were able to make it up to Sidney's room, locking it before placing the closet door right in front of the bedroom door.

The murderer was able to push the door, only to get stopped by the closet door. Their arm swung around as far as it could within the crack of the door, trying to get at the girls. Y/n moved to Sidney's desk, grabbing the phone as she dialed 911. When she put the phone to her ear, the sound of beeping could be heard, showing the phone was disconnected.

A curse could be heard within her cries, catching Sidney's attention. The brunette moved to her computer, typing in 911. Just as 911 answered, Y/n glanced over her shoulder to see the murderer wasn't at the door anymore and she tugged on Sidney's sleeve, making the other girl look over as well.

It was silent for a brief moment before they heard a thud at Sidney's opened window, causing them to gasp out loud in fear. There, Billy was gripping onto the windowsill as he moved to climb through. The sound of Y/n calling out her boyfriend's voice could be heard as she moved towards him, pulling him inside.

"I tried the door and it was locked. I heard screaming." Billy tells them as he steps inside. "You alright?"

"The killer's here. He's in the house." Y/n cries, hugging him tightly. "He's got a knife. He's gonna kill us."

"He's gone. It's alright." Billy whispers, rubbing her back.

As she stood near her desk, Sidney took continuous glances between the door and her computer in fear just when something fell from Billy's pocket. Y/n slowly unwraps her arms from around her boyfriend as she looks down to see a phone laying by their feet, making her entire body freeze as she took a couple steps away from him.

Billy kept his eyes on her as he asked 'what' over and over again, Sidney reaching out and grabbing her hand while she moved back as well. Next thing he knew, they were sprinting to the door and pulling both the closet and bedroom doors open. Billy was right behind them, calling out both their names before he was just calling out Y/n's.

He stopped at the top of the stairs as they rushed down and towards the front door. Unlocking the chain, Sidney pulled it open, only to see the same ghostface mask right in front of them. At the sight, the girls let out feared screams before the mask was moved to reveal Dwight Riley, who everyone called Dewey, standing there in his police uniform.

Dewey let out a slight scream after they did before apologies left him, claiming he found the mask as he ushered the rest of the cops inside the house, sprinting past the girls and in the direction of Billy standing at the top of the stairs. Soon enough, Billy could be seen pinned to a police car as they wrapped handcuffs around him.

Sheriff Burke arrived to the scene as Billy pleaded for him to call his father while they dragged him into a police car. Once he was placed inside, he was able to peak his head out to look in the direction of his girlfriend while he called out her name in a slight pleading tone. He continued to look over his shoulder at her figure sitting in the back of an emergency vehicle.

Beside her, Sidney's shoulder touched Y/n's as the Becker girl leaned against her, head resting on her shoulder while blankets laid over their shoulders, keeping them warm. Billy's voice could still be heard as he called out to his girl before the car fully drove off. As Dewey and Sheriff Burke reached them, another car pulled up.

Tatum was quick to get out of her car when she noticed all the police cars and emergency vehicles around out front of Sidney's house. Panic could be seen in her face as she slammed her door shut, noticing her best friends surrounded by her older brother and the sheriff. Frantically, she was calling out their names as she rushed over.

"You two gonna be able to come down to the station and answer a few questions?" Dewey questions, receiving nods.

"Oh, shit! Y/n! Sidney!" Tatum calls out, reaching them. "God, guys, I'm so sorry I was late. Are you guys alright?"

Dewey grabs his sister's arm. "Tatum, you can't be here. This is an official crime scene."

"It's okay." Sidney assures.

Tatum sighs, looking at her older brother. "Her dad's out of town and Y/n's house is part of a crime scene, too. They're both staying with us tonight."

"Does mom know?" Dewey asks.

Tatum rolls her eyes. "Yes, doofus."

Sheriff Burke finally spoke up as he ushered for the girls to get out of here and down to the station. Tatum wrapped her arms around both girls as she moved them to Dewey's police car, opening the door for them before they went inside as Dewey showed the sheriff the ghostface mask he had found.

Just as Dewey was starting the car, a van pulled up before Gale Weathers was rushing out of it, curses leaving her. She moved close to Dewey's vehicle when he pressed on the gas, touching the car a bit as she tried to get a peak into the window, calling out both Y/n and Sidney's names. Inside of the car, Y/n hid her face as Dewey drove off.
