CHAPTER THREE:

NO CLASSES

THE NEXT DAY had finally arrived for the people of Woodsboro as they listened to the news of what had happened just the night before. Teenagers were riding their bikes and skateboards along the streets as they headed to school, police vehicles driving all around as they kept an eye out for anyone who could be a suspect.

The three teenagers could be seen sitting in the Riley household in the kitchen as Tatum and Dewey's mother finished up their breakfast. The television was on, the news echoing throughout the kitchen as they spoke about the events that happened to Maureen Prescott last year, even showing a video of the man found guilty for her murder.

At the reminder of this and the sight of Cotton Weary on the television screen, Sidney shook her head as she looked down at the table, feeling both Y/n and Tatum reach over to rub her shoulder. Dewey could be seen on the other side of the kitchen, putting the phone back before he grabbed the remote, turning off the TV.

"It's never gonna stop, is it?" Sidney speaks up.

Dewey sits down on the other side of Y/n. "Billy was released. His cellular bill was clean. He didn't make those calls. We're checking every cellular account in the county. Any calls made to you or Casey Becker are being cross-referenced. It's gonna take some time, but we'll find him."

Staring down at her lap, Sidney only nods to his words as Y/n reaches over to gently punch her in the arm, telling her that it'll be okay. Soon enough, the four of them all found themselves inside of Dewey's car as he drove them to school, news reporters and students being seen all out front of the building.

Sidney moved to the side once she was out of the car from the back, Y/n right behind her. Once Sidney was out, she was immediately ambushed by a news reporters, though Dewey stepped in between them as Tatum and Y/n grabbed the brunette, moving them away and towards the school building as they ignored the reporter.

However, they didn't make it too far when Sidney stopped, grabbing both their arms, her gaze somewhere else. Y/n and Tatum looked at her curiously before following where she had been looking, seeing she was staring right at Gale Weathers in her van. Telling them to give her a second, she walks towards the reporter.

It's only a couple of minutes before Tatum and Y/n intervened, leading Sidney away before Gale could get the camera rolling. The hallways were crowded as they ventured in the direction of their lockers, meeting Stu halfway, who had came up behind the girls to wrap his arms around his girlfriend. After a little bit, they all stood at their lockers together.

Sidney shakes her head, tossing her jacket in her locker. "This is a mistake. I shouldn't be here."

"I want you to meet me and Y/n right here after class, okay, Sid?" Tatum tells her, receiving a nod.

"Hey, I haven't seen Billy around." Sidney states, looking right at Stu. "Is he really pissed?"

Stu chuckles. "Oh, you mean after you branded him the Candyman? No, his heart's broken."

At this, Tatum shoves his shoulder, receiving an 'ow' from the boy. Next thing they knew, loud shrieking could be heard as someone ran down the hall in a ghostface costume, getting in people's faces. Sidney flinched when they ran by her. Y/n tried to hide the smile that twitched on her lips as Stu laughed against her neck.

"Why are they doing this?" Sidney questions as the bell rang.

"Are you kidding me? Look at this place. It's like Christmas." Stu comments through a laugh.

Tatum shoved him once again before she hit him a few times with the lollipop she had been sucking on, receiving grunts and 'ows' from him. Going along, Y/n shoved his shoulder just as Sidney ran off with a sniffle. The Walker girl looked over when Tatum called out the brunette's name, Y/n adding in her voice as she did the same, though Sidney didn't turn around.

* * *

The teenagers at Woodsboro high school were all happy after the principal had made the announcement that all their classes would be suspended until the murders stopped and the killer was found. Their cheers could be heard all throughout the building as they talked about the plans for the night before curfew.

Three teenagers could be seen walking along together outside of the school. Y/n held the strap of her bag as she walked with her best friends, listening to Sidney talk about what had happened to her earlier. When she was in the bathroom, Sidney had been attacked by someone in a ghostface costume, but she was able to make it to the principal.

"It was just some sick fuck having a laugh, Sidney." Tatum states.

Sidney shakes her head. "No, it was him, Tatum. I know it."

"Well, you're not to be alone anymore. If you pee, I pee. Is that clear?" Tatum insists.

The three of them were moving by Stu, who was crouched down at some flowers as he plucked them before he rushed to them. He turned to each of the girls as he held out the flowers, letting them take them from his hands. Turning to his girlfriend, he placed the flower behind her ear before briefly kissing her lips.

"Kizzo-kaskizzo is is-out." Stu speaks up. "I don't know what you did, Sidney. But on behalf of the entire student body, we all say, 'thank you'!"

Y/n hits him with the flower. "Drop it, Stu."

"I say..." Stu begins, lifting his girlfriend up and on his shoulder. "...an impromptu party tonight, my house. Celebrate this little siesta. What do you say?"

Sidney raises a brow. "Are you serious?"

"Parents are out of town and if this little vixen doesn't invite the entire world, we'll be fine." Stu tells them as he puts Y/n back down, wrapping his arms around her. "Intimate gathering, intimate friends."

"What do you say, Sid?" Y/n asks with a shrug. "I mean, pathos could have it's perks."

Stu twists her in his arms. "Totally protected. Yo, I am so buff. I got you covered, girl."

Tatum shrugs. "Come on, Sid. For me? It could be fun."

As they all came to a stop on the sidewalk, facing one another, Stu leaned down and pressed kisses to the side of his girlfriend's neck, to which Y/n placed her hand on the back of his head as Tatum stared at Sidney, waiting for her answer. The brunette glanced between her friends and her feet before she shrugged and nodded, agreeing for the party.

Stu was the first to start speaking as he walked off, telling them to get food for the party while the three ventured away. It was only a few minutes before the three of them had reached Tatum's house, deciding to sit outside for a little bit before they'd go and get ready for the party later on. Music blasted from the speakers as they stood together on the porch.

"What if Cotton Weary is telling the truth? Maybe he was having an affair with your mom." Y/n suggests. "I mean, your dad was always out of town on business. Maybe your mom was just a very unhappy woman."

"If they were having an affair, how come Cotton couldn't prove it in court?" Sidney questions.

Tatum shrugs. "Well, you can't prove a rumor. That's why it's a rumor."

Sidney nods. "Right. Created by that little tabloid twit Gale Weathers."

"It goes further back, Sid. There's been talk about other men." Tatum hesitantly recalls.

"And you both believe it." Sidney points out.

"Well..." Y/n starts, trailing off with a shrug. "...you can only hear that Richard Gere gerbil story so many times before you have to start believing it."

Sidney only rubs her face as she walks past them and towards the stairs of the porch, leaning against the rail as Tatum quickly apologizes. Y/n can't help but roll her eyes before she puts on a frown, crossing her arms while slowly moving towards the brunette.

"You know, if I was wrong about Cotton Weary, then the killer's still out there." Sidney states.

Tatum shakes her head. "Don't go there, Sid. You're starting to sound like some Wes Carpenter flick or something."

"Don't freak yourself out, okay? We've got a long night ahead of us." Y/n adds with a knowing smile.

Tatum grabbed both their hands after, insisting they should get ready as they moved to head inside of the house. Neither of the three noticed they were being watched as a familiar ghostface mask appears from within the bushes before he ran off.
