The overhead lights flickered for a moment as the sound of a hoover and a girl humming filled the empty hallway. It was nearing October in the small town of Woodsboro meaning the air had taken on a violent chill that crept into all the buildings no matter how high the heating was turned up to, a dark cloud hovering over the town ever since the murder of Maureen Prescott one year prior. The town was suddenly darker, tainted though from the outside it looked like the same boring, little town.

In the halls of the empty seeming movie theatre a teenage girl was hoovering while dancing to the music from her walkman — hips swaying rhythmically without a care. Humming beneath her breath she spun around and let out a startled scream at the sight of the boy standing right behind her, "Stu! You idiot, I almost had a heart attack."

Stu Macher towered above her by at least two heads, but with his lanky frame and goofy grin he was completely unthreatening — unlike Billy Loomis who stood a few feet behind him with a permanent frown on his face. He was a nice enough boy, but sometimes she thought he was unhappy with how close she was with his girlfriend Sidney, "Sorry 'Elle."

Michelle wrinkled her nose at the nickname with an eye roll watching the rest of the last moviegoers exit the cinema, "So, you boys enjoy Basic Instinct?" She bent over, wrapping the wire around the hoover, "What's this the third time in the last two weeks?"

"Fourth," Billy snorted, "this idiot is obsessed with Sharon Stone."

"Have you seen Sharon Stone? Besides I wanna watch it as much as possible on the big screen whilst the cinema's doing the reruns of it." Stu looked between them like they were the insane ones.

Sighing Michelle started on making sure everything was off and in place, "And how does Tatum feel about this obsession?"

"She gets it."

Looking up at the ceiling, Michelle thought for a moment before nodding along, "Fair enough."

"You locking up on your own tonight? Billy asked, leaning against the counter as she checked the tills.

Sighing in annoyance she shrugged her shoulders, "Yeah Zack called in sick... again. I don't know why they don't just fire that idiot — but it's fine, it doesn't take long."

"Do you want us to help out, or wait for you?" Billy asked leaning over the counter ever so slightly to stare into her eyes, "It's not exactly safe out."

"No get going guys." Michelle waved them off with an unbothered smile. Even if inside she was slightly unnerved by Billy's unblinking stare, "I've got my pepper spray I'll be fine."

"You sure?" Stu questioned as he threw his last handful of popcorn into his mouth.

"Yes! Go before I call your girlfriends to come get you!" The two held their hands up in surrender as they laughed and walked towards the doors, "Bye!"

"We'll be seeing you."

And then she was alone.

Breathing a sigh of relief, Michelle continued locking up. It wasn't that she disliked the boys — Michelle liked most people and most people liked her which was why she never really stuck to one particular friendship group at school, changing where she sat almost daily. But if there was one constant in her life it was Sidney Prescott. The two girls had been friends since they had been toddlers, Michelle only realising that the feelings she had for Sidney bordered beyond friendship when she saw the girl kiss Billy for the first time. It had felt like a knife to the heart, a burning pain spreading through her veins and had left a bitter taste in her mouth.

Whenever she stared into Billy's beady unblinking eyes she felt like he just knew.

Michelle was cut off from her thoughts as the phone began to ring loudly behind her, "Woodsboro Cineworld, I'm sorry but if you're looking to book tickets we're closed now." Heavy breathing was all that greeted her so she hung up with a confused frown. As she was walking away from the phone it began to ring shrilly once again, "Hello?"

She was once again greeted with the same heavy breathing, though after a few agonising moments a deep, almost distorted voice rasped out, "What's your favourite scary movie?"

"Randy?" Michelle groaned into the phone, annoyance lacing her tone as the tension left her body, "You scared the shit out of me, you dork."

"Sorry 'Elle," the voice rasped back, "so, what's your favourite scary movie?"

"You seriously called to ask me that?" Her laughter rang through the empty halls, "Hm, that's a difficult question. I would say Chucky but it's honestly more funny than scary, so I'll go with A Nightmare On Elm Street."

Glancing at the clock she cursed quietly, "Shit!" The sky outside was now black, not a star in sight, "Sorry Randy, gotta go! Go creep on Sid or something."

Michelle finished locking up, ignoring the blaring phone as she shoved her headphones on and blasted her music. Locking the front doors she frowned at the icy shiver that shot through her, regretting not having bought a jacket or even just driving, having decided to try and save a little money on petrol and walk instead.

Making her way down the street, Michelle didn't hear the faint sound of footsteps over the upbeat sound of Queen running through her headphones until it was too late. She let out a startled scream as a hand covered her mouth and an arm wrapped around her waist. Acting quickly she bit down as hard as she could on the gloved hand that was over her mouth, the pained groan of the person behind her growing louder when she elbowed them in the face.

Michelle shot off as fast as she could — her breath coming out in panicked pants as she glanced back at the masked figure behind her only to find them standing completely still, a ghostface mask staring back at her. Not bothering to dwell on it she spun back around only to bump into someone else. Hesitantly looking up she found a figure in the same mask towering over her, a sharp looking blade in hand and that was the last thing she saw as he brought the blunt end down on her skull, the blinding pain in her temple and the scrape of concrete on her body being the last things she felt before her body shut down completely.

Michelle struggled to peel open her eyes as a pained groan left her bound lips, the blinding pain on her forehead distracting her mind from her situation for a moment. Finally managing to open her eyes she frowned at the blurred sight of trees all above her, shifting on her back she tried to move her arms and legs only to find a resistance. Pulling against her restraints with a strangled sob, Michelle turned her head to the side only to see two tall figures cloaked in masks and robes speaking in distorted voices beside her.

Straining her ears she tried to make out their words, "...how do we even know this stuff works?"

"Look, how do you think Ramirez managed to not get caught all those years? He had the power of Satan behind him." Oh fuck, they were crazy, "Sacrificing a virgin? That's gonna get us so much power man!"

"How'd we even know she's a virgin?"

"Please it's so obvious," the shorter one scoffed, "besides have you seen the way she looks at Sid? She's a total closeted rug muncher." Prick.

The two looked over and found her staring at them with wide teary eyes, straightening up they grabbed two threatening looking knives and took a place on either side of her as she shook her head frantically, "It's too bad," the tall one's distorted voice sounded as he tilted his head, "she's so hot."

The other punched him in the chest before wiping a piece of hair from her face with the edge of his blade, "Don't worry, your sacrifice will not be in vain."

Shaking her head frantically, Michelle let out a plethora of muffled shouts as her heart thumped erratically in her chest. The light of the full moon seemed to be beaming directly on her and she couldn't tear her eyes away from the glistening knife as it was raised above the shorter one's head, watching it sail towards her with frightened eyes.

"AVE SATANAS!"

Michelle felt the first stab, as she finally managed to spit the cloth from her mouth but the only sound that escaped her was a pained wheeze. The second stab was worse, blood bubbling up from her throat and splattering over her pale lips as she coughed. Burning pain spread through her veins as she lost count of the amount of times she was stabbed, briefly she wondered if they could see inside her now — all she ever was and could be, see her hopes and dreams flow out of her body intertwined with the rivers of her blood that shined black under the moonlight.

Or perhaps all they saw was a pitiful sacrificial lamb.

Her eyes focused on the blood splattered friendship bracelet on her wrist, memories flashing before her eyes like a slow moving film before they finally fluttered closed as a knife pierced her heart. Michelle could only pray that the next world would be kinder to her as she slipped away.

Deep below the earth's surface her mental prayer was heard and answered with a wicked laugh.

( THIS WORLD WAS NOT QUITE FINISHED WITH HER YET. )
