we all gather around a table, bottles of various drinks and shot glasses ready. we had prepared a bunch of classic game night games such as charades, uno and pictionary.

as the games progress, the drinks flow, and the rules of the game seem to blur along with the lines of sobriety.

sadie seems to be the only one to drink responsibly, taking her sips with caution which causes us to boo.

everyone else, on the other hand, we're wasted.

"oh, penguin!" i yell out in confidence as finn acts out the word he got.

"noo, faye, he's obviously a dog" millie rolls her eyes.

"well, you must be deaf because that's clearly penguin"

i slur over my words, leading sadie to chuckle as she records the entire game on her phone.

time runs out, causing finn to throw his hands in the air with a scoff. "it was a penguin you idiots"

i groan "none of us guessed it right"

sadie stares at me in disbelief before bursting out in laughter, causing us all to glance at her in confusion.

gaten goes next, taking his turn with full enthusiasm. he takes a look at the word, "giraffe" before imitating a drunk dance, complete with exaggerated neck movements and everything.

"oh, i know! you're gaten!"

my answer receives nods of agreement from everyone, including gaten.

"point to faye"

caleb attempts to convey the word "volcano" with passionate arm waving, causing us to guess everything from "dancing fire" to "angry chicken" and still not getting the word right, despite him literally reading it out loud at first.

noahs attempt at "elephant" results in him pretending to drink from an invisible water spout, which leads to confused shouts of "drunk water fountain"

"how about we play uno, instead?" the redhead suggets, smiling when drunken cheers of agreement fill the room.

i attempt at shuffling the cards, failing miserably which causes me to give up and just let sadie handle it.

"blue" millie says with confidence, placing a green 7 on top of a red 2.

sadie watches with amusement, allowing us to play this fever dream version of uno.

noah, with an evil laugh, announces like a spokesman that he's about to hit me with a plus 4 before placing down a yellow 9. i collect 4 cards with a frown as sadie blinks at me.

finn holds up his deck of like 40 cards, showing everyone what he has. "do i win yet?"

"oh my god, yes! congratulations" i begin clapping, struggling to stand up when everyone does the same.

"so proud of you" millie wipes away a tear.

millie sways slightly, approaching the clipboard. she manages to doodle out a chaotic scribbly rendition of "rollercoaster"

"abstract art" sadie lets out a laugh, covering her mouth.

millie sighs. "i give up, just give her the point"

i squint at the card, giving my all to attempt reading it. "three words... tree? no, wait, that's not it"

"do you need help? i'm a good reader" caleb slurs over his words, leaning over to read my card, crushing noah in the process.

"i think that's a song. i think it's hit me baby one more time"

"no, caleb. it's a place. uh... oh, maybe it's shake it off!"

sadie stares at us, bewildered. "how are you not even able to read the word... and also confusing songs with places?"

"the word is too long, sadie" i groan.

she furrows her brows at me before taking a look at the piece of paper. "okay, i'll draw it"

she begins to sketch frantically.

"okay, there's a circle... and some lines..." finn investigates as she draws. "oh, oh, what's the word... amphitheater!"

sadie gasps and points at finn, indicating that he got it correct. the rest of us groan, putting our hands in the air.

"that's a fake word! unfair" millie protests.

"you guys are NOT ready for this" noah shakes his head with a smirk as he starts drawing.

millie leans over to me and whispers. "is he drawing a dinosaur?"

"i think so, it just looks like a circle with legs"

gaten gasps. "I KNOW! it's a t-rex on a bike"

"it's a... mailbox" noah blinks at gaten.

as the night wears on, the effect of the alcohol takes it's toll, and one by one, the group drifts off to sleep, leaving me and the redhead awake.

even in my tipsy state, it's as if all the unspoken words float in the air around us, in the quiet of the night.

sadie notices my drowsiness with a smile. "you should go upstairs, don't sleep on the floor like mills" she motions at the brunette.

i nod prior to reaching out my arms, earning a look of confusion from sadie. "carry me"

her brows rise up with an amused chuckle. "are you sure?"

i nod once again before she stands up, managing to lift me up bridal style.

with every step she takes, i feel the suspension building up in me. our faces are so close, yet she's so far away. her effort to not lock eyes with me was very clear.

with her gentle touch, she helps me onto the soft sheets of the bed, leisurely placing the blanket on me. she turns to leave, stopping at the sound of my voice.

"stay"

she doesn't move, so i speak again.

"please?"

a sigh escapes her lips, the redhead making her way over to the mattress. she lies next to me, over the blanket.

my hand reaches out to brush through her hair. "your hair is soft"

she chuckles, whispering a "thank you" before leaning in a little closer to me.

her hand subtly glides over to the skin of my waist, delicately tracing it with her fingertips while mine remain tangled within her hair.

subconsciously, she shifts closer, close enough for me to feel her warm breath on my skin, driving me insane.

there's nothing but a gap between us now. in this moment, my mind isn't filled with thoughts of how she betrayed me, hurt me, it's simply yearning for that gap to disappear.

but she pulls away.

she pulls away, not a word. she probably decided to stay true to her morals, not taking advantage of my current state. although, i wish she would.

within a few seconds, she's gone.
leaving me in the quiet darkness of the room, my eyes clouded with disappointment and at the same time, regret.
