Vaerda Targaryen is many things. The second surviving daughter of King Viserys, first of his name, and Queen Aemma. Younger sister of Rhaenyra. Niece of Daemon Targaryen. Princess. Spare. Pawn.

But there are things she is not. And she yearns to be something more where dragons dwell.

Vaerda had once been close to her older sister, Rhaenyra. But the bond they had forged growing up was shattered once Rhaenyra was named their father's heir. It wasn't that Vaerda was jealous that led to their coldness. It was that overnight, their relationship suddenly changed because suddenly Rhaenyra mattered and Vaerda was still nothing more than a pawn in a game she wanted no part of. With their lives on different paths, that game becomes infinitely more complicated and dangerous.

This is my first foray into the asoiaf fandom. Please be kind. Most of my knowledge is from House of the Dragon and Tumblr. But the fandom looked like fun to write for and in need of a few tweaks. *enter me* Let's give this thing a whirl!

There is an alternate version of this fic which is darker and Vaerda ends up with Daemon, if that's more your cup of tea. It's called Where Dragons Dwell. They will be the same story for several chapters and will then diverge.
