SUMMARY |

❝Falling in love with a god is not a death sentence. The story is only a tragedy if the god loves you back.❞

Born into a family with names of gods, Pele Mahelona had to live up to her name. Named after the goddess of fire, volcanoes, lightning, and the creator of of the islands, she was the exact opposite. She didn't like fire, she wasn't as forward as Pele was in the stories she heard, and she definitely did not control fire.

After one of the nights of Kanaloa, Pele was not the same. Her father's job moved them to New York, a state where the beaches were not as welcoming as those in her native home. She's enrolled at Midtown School of Science and Technology, and meets new friends. From quiet Michelle Jones, hilarious Ned Leeds, quirky Liz Toomes, to the awkward Peter Parker.

As her friendship with new friends grow, something inside of her does at well. The cold of New York no longer feels as cold, and the heat feels like nothing to her. During thunderstorms, she was able to conjure lightning and split the tree in her backyard in three. The fire from the stove became higher when she wished it to be.

It seemed that Pele Mahelona was living up to her name.

OTHER |

Pele Mahelona is Native Hawaiian, with Puerto Rican and Portuguese decent. Her family has names of gods because of a tradition beginning long before she was born. In a way, they are the human counterparts of the gods they are named after. When they come of age, or when needed the most, they receive the full power of the gods. Pele is named after Madame Pele, the goddess of fire, lightning, wind, and volcanoes. She has an older sister named Namaka, named after the sea goddess, and a younger sister named Hi'iaka, named after the patron goddess of Hawai'i, hula dancers, chant, sorcery, and medicine. Her father is named Kamohoali'i, after a shark god. Her mother is named Poli'ahu, after the goddess of snow.

Each person in her family was named by Kupuna, the oldest member of their family right at their birth. It was said that before each birth, the Kupuna has the name appear to them in the form of a vision or dream. Before Pele was born, she saw fire. And fire has two meanings: destruction or rebirth. She chose Pele, because the goddess was patron of both.

Pele loves the ocean, both in its wildlife and surfing. She was taught to serve the ways of nature, to thank the animal for their meat and hide. She also loves to surf, became quite prominent on it and wanted to do nothing more but to begin a professional career out of it.

After one of the nights where they honour the god Kanaloa, Pele decided to stay after dark by the beach with several of her friends. She knew that she wasn't supposed to all due to the stories her grandparents had told her, about ancient warriors who rose from their graves and marched towards the site of ancient battles or sacred places.

It was right after sunset when she began to hear war drums in the distance. The thump her grandparents had imitated many times to teach and to scare. Her grandparents had told her that any mortal looking upon or being seen was defiance towards the marchers, and would die violently. Unless a relative was with the marchers ranks.

Pele could not move as the war drums got louder, as a death-like odour wafted around her. The tone of a conch shell being blown, a sign for mortals to get out their way. The torches around her burned brighter, and the sound of feet marched became louder. In a moment, Pele was surrounded by the ghostly figures of ancient warriors.

The warriors surrounded her, their weapons pointed at her in the beginning of an attack. One of them stepped forward, laid his fist over his heart and loudly proclaimed, "Na'u!" Mine. She was his bloodline, and would not be harmed by the rest.

From behind the warrior, a woman moved forward. Pele has seen many paintings and had imagined the woman, but never thought she would see her very namesake stand before her. Madame Pele smiled, laid a hand on her other shoulder and said, "O ka manawa kēia." It is time.

Pele woke up the following morning on the beach, her family surrounding her with worried looks. Her father began to yell at her, about the warnings of nightmarchers and how she was lucky to be alive. She kept her experience a secret. What happened was that the goddess gave her the rest of the powers, because she would need them in the oncoming future.

The following weeks, her father was transferred to New York for his job (property developer). They move with him in the following weeks, and she is enrolled to the Midtown School of Science and Technology due to her interest in chemistry. On her first day there, Liz is the one instructed to show her around. Like that, she meets the majority of everyone, except Peter and Ned. She meets them in class, since the teacher decided to add her to their group.

She gets close to them because Ned is silly, and Peter is awkward, and she just can't help but laugh. They become good friends, but not the best of friends, since she finds a small group of her own.

When she begins to find that she has powers, she starts practicing. A series of mishaps happen with every new super hero learning their powers, especially since her power is fire. She starts burning things, and the alarm comes on every few days both in school and her house. One of the days she stayed late working on a chemistry project, she's using her power to make the flame higher to warm up a liquid, aND THEN PETER WALKS ON AND HE'S LIKE "PELE?!?!?" And the beaker explodes and the flames go higher and she freaks out like "WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE, PETER?" And they're both screaming at each other because Peter is excited about someone else with powers and she is freaking out because she thinks she's going to be dissected.

They calm down and Pele tells him how she got her powers and a bit of her family history. And Peter, still excited, tells her he's Spider Man. And then he thinks a tag-team of superheroes would be fun because then he can prove Mr. Stark he can be in the Avengers. Pele is like "what?" And he's like "YEAH!!"  And she's like "Peter, no, that's dangerous." And he's like "you literally controlled fire. How are a few bad guys dangerous?"

They get talking and decide that no, Pele will not be joining him on his crime fighting, but she will be there for him if he needs help. It's how she becomes closer to him, and Ned.

She's joins the academic decathlon team because Liz thinks she'll be a good addition, goes with them to Washington, and stays with the group in the Washington Monument. She is selfless, so she makes EVERYONE go before her. When the elevator begins to break more, she quickly pushes Liz to go before her. Just as Spider-Man lifts Liz up, the elevator cables snap. Spider-Man dives in and rescues Pele just before she and the elevator hit the floor. The first signs of a crush happen here. And that's when Pele decides to join Peter in his crime fighting, because she wants to save lives.

At the end, Tony knows about her and thinks she and Peter will make a great addition to the Avengers. While Peter denies it, Pele agrees. She can't be known as Pele, so she decides to go with the name Nightmarcher, after the very beings who helped her have the power.

In a way, she can be considered Thor's counterpart because she can control lightning. But she can also work with anything that has heat. Think of Laca Girl from Shark Boy and Lava Girl, But she cant make lava appear out of nowhere. She has to have it rise from core of the earth. Her hands can heat up just as much as magma, making it able for her to burn through anything, except vibranium. She also controls winds.

Pele stays at the new Avengers HQ training with the one and only Natasha Romanoff. The training is exhausting and back-breaking, but Pele wants to learn. She wants to become one of the warriors her grandparents spoke so much about.

Even when she's exhausted, she has time to talk to Peter. She tells him how it is over there, and he catches her up with what's happening at school.

Even though she's not a full-fledged Avenger, she joins in small missions.

For Infinity War, she'll help Tony Stark and Dr. Strange in New York, calling out to Peter when he arrives as Spider Man. They team-it, like before. She gets beaten up, pretty badly, and when she wakes up no one is there. The streets of New York are empty.

She gets picked up by Natasha and taken to Wakanda, where she meets Black Panther and freaks out. Like, "OMG! I'm such a big fan of yours!!1!!" And he is nice because this is a young girl, a lot like his sister. Anyway, she and Shuri get along gr8.

In the end, she does not disintegrate but is left worried and sick and with PTSD. Where are those that disappeared? Where is Bucky Barnes, a man who introduced himself with as much charm as any other boy;  T'Challa, the king who agreed to take a selfie with her;  the talking tree she took a liking to; Wanda Maximoff who cared for her as a sister; Sam Wilson, who taught her the strings on how to keep in shape? Where the hell was Peter? She freaks out more because of her family. Afterwards, she learns that her family had disappeared as well, leaving behind her and her younger sister, Hi'iaka.

From a sweet and happy girl, Pele became broken.
