one - the arrival
please work, please work, were the words that harlow smith thought in her head as she slowly opened her eyes. she had tried out this new subliminal that she found on youtube the night before. she had finally opened her eyes fully as she scanned the room. it was a random room, however she knew exactly where it was from.
"holy shit, it work!" harlow exclaimed out loud as she jumped out of the bed. harlow was in shock and amazement, she had never shifted before, not even getting the so-called symptoms like tiktok said you "needed" to have. harlow looked around the room for a second time, actually taking in what was around her. there was a black bag, similar to the one harry potter had in the "prisoner of azkaban", the bed, a closet, and a nightstand.
harlow, not knowing what to do, walked over to the bag and opened it. she found a few clothes, some muggle money, and a few of her crystals. damn i left my tarot cards at home didnt i, harlow thought to herself as she took out the stuff. for once in her life, harlow decided to be a mature person and try to figure out what she had to do because, to be frank, she was confused as to how she was supposed to even get to hogwarts, get her supplies, and she didn't even know what year she was in.
ok harlow think, you read the books how do i get wizard money? wait i know gringotts! so that's where she went. thankfully she already had on some clothes so she didn't need to waste any time getting changed. harlow carefully crept out of her room and down the stairs where she was greeted with the leaky cauldron pub. a few people sat at the scattered tables but none of them paid any mind to harlow as she walked out of the pub.
as she stared at the brick wall the smile on her face slowly dropped. oh shit, she thought as the realization that she needed a wand to open the gateway hit her. harlow pondered for a few minutes before an idea struck her. if i pretend i lost my wand i can ask tom for help opening the gateway.
harlow made her way back into the pub and walked straight up to the bar. "um excuse me tom?" she called out to tom, who's attention snapped towards her. "yes miss?" tom asked the newly turned 15 year old girl. "well you see i lost my wand the other day so i need to get a new one at olivanders but i cant open the gateway without my wand so i was wondering if you could help open it for me?" harlow rambled in a small voice to tom, who just laughed with a smile on his face. "of course!" he said as he walked towards the exit.
harlow followed him silently out the door as tom went in-front of the wall and started to tap. right now i could really use my phone. while he tapped the last brick with his wand, the wall magically disappeared. the sight of diagonally took harlow's breath away. woah this is even better then i imagined, she thought in her head as she thanked tom and went through the gateway.
first stop, gringotts. thankfully for harlow, gringotts was easy to spot. she walked down the ally, admiring every bit of it, as she made her way to the famous bank.
when she arrived, she was in awe of everything, the marble pillars, the goblins, and the magic of it all.
nervously, harlow got out her money (which was equal to $100 american dollars) and went up to a desk that had a goblin behind it. "excuse me mr..." harlow's eyes flashed to the name tag on the goblins shirt "laglig, i was wondering if i could transfer this american money into galleons?" she asked the goblin hesitantly. "sure thing" the goblin nodded as harlow handed the money to him. the goblin with ease found out how much it was worth and put it into a pouch.
"there's 12 galleons, 16 sickles, and 27 knuts in the pouch, would you like to put any of it into you vault?" laglig asked harlow who shook her head no.
"no thank you, i think im good for now but thank you for all of your help!" harlow was truly grateful for the goblin because now the thought of her being able to have a way to get things eased her worries. laglig just smiled at the young girl and gave her the pouch. harlow picked up the pouch and was surprised to find that it was heavy however she just shook it off as she waved goodbye to the goblin and walked out.
by the time harlow had made it back to her room in the leaky cauldron, she hadn't accomplished much. in fact she had only been brave enough to stop at scrivenshaft's quill shop to get some parchment and a quill (that she had no idea how to use) so she could write a letter to dumbledore to ask for help about what's happening.
as harlow sat on the bed, she pulled out the parchment and quill and started to write her letter. after many attempts she finally came out with one that was decent:
dear dumbledore,
hello, you probably don't know me but my name is harlow smith. i'm going to be coming to hogwarts this coming year i believe and i would like to meet with you to discuss some things as my situation is a bit strange. i am currently staying at the leaky cauldron in room 113 so please get back to me when you can.
sincerely,
harlow geneiéve smith
she had tried her best to sound formal as they did in the books. she honestly had no idea just what she was going to talk to him about when she and him meet, or if they even meet as the chance they do are slim.
the night had come quickly so by the time she was ready to send her letter through the owls at the post office located in diagon ally, it was already 10 pm. it was only then that harlow noticed just how tired she was from the day so she decided to go to sleep and deal with everything tomorrow (harlow happened to be a great procrastinator).
as soon as harlow's head hit the pillowcase drifted off to sleep, unaware of the people who knew of her arrival to the wizarding world.
