ZERO;: prologue
It was seemingly a nice and quiet summer day on Kildare Island. The sun was out, causing it to be warm, and a small breeze made itself known, which cooled the people down. Many of the residents made their way to their pools if they had the money for their own, and others made a small base on the beach.
The day, however, was definitely not calm for a certain blonde haired pouge girl.
"The fuck do you mean it will be easy, huh?" She yelled into the face of a kook family.
The restaurant was filled to the brim with all these wealthy families and teenagers who had nothing better to do than buy all this fancy stuff. They continued to murmur between each other as this chaotic scene.
"Do you people really lack sympathy this much?" The blonde continued before letting out a sarcastic laugh. "It's fucking pathetic!"
"Harlow!" The older man's voice shouted from the sidelines, the owners.
The kook family just stared at her in disbelief as she dared to call them out in front of everyone. The girl didn't care who they were or what their names were or where they came from, she just wanted to give them her opinion in real Quinn style.
"What even is that land for? The houses on it are already rotting so might aswell just give other people a chance to live there." The arrogant daughter of theirs replied with an innocent shrug of her shoulders.
Quinn rolled her jaw in hopes of calming herself down a bit before answering. "I live there, along with two of my friends."
"Well, you might just have to start looking for a new place, won't you?" The brown haired girl smiled.
"Oh, you little bit--"
The father was the next to talk as he placed the cup of whatever he was drinking back onto the table. "Look, we gave you a head start, didn't we? Atleast you could say thank you for that."
Quinn looked at him as if he grew another head in front of her eyes. She could feel her eyebrows twitch as her mouth turned down into a sneer.
These people were such arrogant pieces of shit, they just made her blood boil 24/7. Quinn despised them. They could just go around flaunting their money and competing to see who had the most with not even a care in the world.
A small smirk appeared on the blonde girls face as she stared down at the three kooks. Her eyes landed on the other teenager who was still grinning at her mockingly. Quinn clenched her fists and rolled her tounge against her cheek as her stare hardened. "I will give you a fucking headstart, alright."
With that she lunged straight at the table and grabbed the nearest cup of wine and splashed it straight onto the white clothes of the mother and daughter. There were audible gasps that followed all across the club and some began to take their phones out to record the situation.
The man stood up and grabbed the collar of the black uniform but Quinn didn't even bat an eye. "Watch what you are doing, kid, I could end you with a flick of my hand."
"What's there to end? I barely have anything." The blonde girl said as she stared straight at him, her face still wearing the small smile.
He huffed in her face but let go of her shirt and pushed Quinn away. The girl and her mother were still shrieking at how their clothes were now ruined and how dare she do this to them.
Quinn looked around before giving a small bow to the crowd that was watching the confrontation. As she turned around she came face to face with her boss who was glaring daggers at her.
"Harlow, I swear to god, you were already a nightmare but this was over the line!" He told her and placed his palm out. "You are fir--"
"I quit!" Quinn cut him off with a grin before throwing her arms up in victory. "Ha! I said it first, dude, you can't fire me now."
"What? That's not how this works!" He tried to reason.
The blonde flicked her short hair before getting the small apron off of her body and crumpling it into a small ball. She threw the piece of fabric straight into the managers face who looked at her dumbfounded.
Quinn gave him the middle finger before strutting towards the exit. However as she was going to leave she turned back to the family who threatened her this morning.
"By the way, you have a really nice car!" The rouge teenager stated and glanced at her arm as if she was looking at a clock and getting shocked by the time. "What a shame it would be if something were to happen to it..."
Before the man registered what she said Quinn was already gone. The blonde could hear the distressed yells of the kook as he worried for the well being of his treasured vehicle that he probably loved more than his own family.
The teen grabbed the small knife from her pocket and stabbed it into the wheels of the car before darting off into the island.
Quinn continued running through gardens and alleys, trying to get home as quickly as she could. She could already hear sirens in the distance that were no doubt for her little stunt at her now old job.
The girl grabbed ahold of the ledge of a wall before jumping over with no problem. As she stood up from the position she landed in she was cornered by a policeman who she has seen multiple times in the station before. He was a bit more on the chubby side and his hairline has already receded as far as his neck.
"Well, hello there!" The blonde waved as she dusted off her uniform. "Fancy seeing you here, officer. Can I help you?"
The man sighed and gave the girl a look. "Kid, you know exactly why I'm here."
"Nah, as far as I know you could be out enjoying the nice weather. It is nice, isn't it? A great day for the beach in my opinion." Quinn continued her distraction as she motioned to the blue sky with her hand.
"There has been a call made about you today at the Island Club for alleged assault and harming the property of another." The officer stated as he walked a bit closer trying to grab the girl so he could take her to the car and into the police station.
Quinn, who had already been in this exact position multiple times before, stayed there calmly as she watched him approach her. When she saw him reach an arm out she began sprinting away once again.
As she glanced behind her she could see him yell curses before darting after her. How daft was this guy? He had a police car with him but decided to pursue her on foot.
Quinn wasn't complaining. It made her job of getting rid of the guy much easier.
A puddle splashed under her feet as she ran straight through it, not even caring about her shoes becoming wet. There was a shorter storm the night before which left behind a bit of rain in the road filled with potholes.
Her laughs echoed through the streets as she manoeuvred her way past the cars and others who were out on a walk enjoying the fresh air. The blondes beat up sneakers caused dents in the soft ground and a small dust cloud formed after each of her steps.
The police officer ran a few meters behind her, huffing and puffing after this workout that he was not expecting. "Get back here!"
"Come and catch me then!" Quinn yelled back as she began jogging backwards, taunting the man.
This was so much fun in her opinion. Her life just never seemed boring, even if she had to escape many times it was a thrill and gave her the rush of adrenaline that she always craved. Although, she didn't wish to be arrested again because that would be the third time this week already.
"Please, just stop!" The poor man shouted between two long breaths.
"And get arrested again? No thank you!" She sprinted on.
Quinn continued running and managed to put a great distance between herself and the man. She turned a few corners and ran through a busier road with no trouble. As her path reached a crossroad she didn't expect to come face to face with an old beat up van. Her footing halted as the boy driving screeched the vehicle to a quick halt. The blonde raised her arms in a sorry motion as she looked over to see the officer turning into the same street as her.
"I almost killed you just there!" The brown haired boy shouted still a bit shaken up.
"John B! Hey!" The blonde girl grinned at him. "How are you on this fine day?"
The teenage boy did a double take as he took a better look at the girl infront of his car. She had that familiar dirty blonde bob, blue eyes, septum piercing and she was very obviously on the run. "Quinn?"
"Long time no see! Did the piercing heal well? I hope you did everything I told you to do!" She glared at him through the dashboard window.
"Yes, I did, I did..." John B couldn't help but smile at this weird interaction. "Hey, aren't you in a rush right now?"
The blonde looked back over to the other end of the road before nodding and saluting to the boy. "Aye, I am, although he is so slow I forgot he was even there."
Just then another head appeared by the dashboard, this time a boy with blonde hair similar to her own. "Out run the bitch!"
Quinn grinned at him before rushing past the van and down the road once again. Her legs bolted past all the homes that kooks owned since she was still nowhere near the Cut, much to her dismay. As she was about to go past another white house she saw her.
The blondes blue eyes stared at the girl stepping out past the white wooden gate. Her tanned skin created a perfect contrast with her white tshirt and light blue shorts. Her curly hair was styled into a half up half down style and it was the perfect shade of the iconic sunkissed brown.
Quinn felt as if her heart skipped a beat when the other girl looked her way. Their eyes met and as cliché it sounds, the blonde couldn't look away.
Which was not the best idea.
As she was distracted she failed to notice the woman on the bicycle coming her way. Quinn collided straight into the poor bystander and fell straight onto the cement street. She groaned in pain as she layed there, not bothering to even stand up.
Her eyes were shut tight as the sun shined right down at her and the pain from her fall was also causing her face to grimace.
"Oh my god! Dear, are you okay?" The woman who hit her asked as she looked down at her.
All Quinn could do was wave her hand in dismissal. The blonde girl was about to sit up until another person filled her vision. It was mister policeman.
The man looked down at her with a disapproving gaze before grabbing her arm and pulling her up. Quinn muttered curses and profanities at the officer but he didn't even pay no mind to her by now.
"Fuck my life."
