;ZERO.. welcome to the outer banks
・・・・☆・・・・☆ ・・・・
If you would've asked Robin how her year would go, she would've replied with: "fucking amazing". She imagined herself exceeding in school, going to the Outer Banks in the breaks to meet her cousin and her friends, winning tennis matches one by one and maybe even being able to go to the state championship. She even imagined winning the huge trophy so she can wave it in the eyes of everyone who ever doubted her as a big F you.
What Robin didn't expect was her sitting on the ferry at the end of May to stay with her cousins in the OBX for who knows how long.
Maybe even forever.
Robin still didn't understand what happened. The brown haired girl was in denial of the disappearance of her parents, the little girl in her still believed that they were just on a small buisness trip. However that was not the case this time.
A few weeks before, Robin and her parents were at home where nothing seemed out of the ordinary. They were eating dinner together, laughing with eachother at stupid jokes and her father starting a food war by the end of it. Everything was going fine until Robin decided to go to bed, due to her having school the next day and needing to finish her homework at a rapid pace. Not like she cared, she just didn't want another F next to her other grades.
The dark haired girl did her usual night-time ritual and after getting mad at the math assignment, which she almost teared in half, she finally managed to crawl into her beloved covers. For some reason she felt much more tired that night so she fell asleep as quickly as her head touched her pillow and she did not wake up until the very next morning.
Robin opened her eyes groggily only to shut them again due to the sun shining straight into her eyes. After laying there for another few minutes she sat up, stretching her arms high up into the air, hoping to ease the pain in them. The teenager finally stood up and waddled her way out of her room so she could go downstairs where she imagined her parents would already be at. Her feet glided down the stairs in a hurry and she was already imagining the smell of her mothers lovely coffee.
"Morning--" Robin said as she rounded the corner to the kitchen but her words died out.
She never would've expected what she was seeing.
The whole house was a mess. The chairs from the island in the kitchen were thrown onto the other side of the room. The pillows on the sofa by the TV were torn and mangled with the feathers flying everywhere. Glass was broken, a wine stain coated the delicate material of the carpet, and what only then caught Robin's eye were the many bullet holes in the wall.
The tan girls eyes widened in shock and as much as she wanted to say something her mouth wouldn't form the words. She could only stutter as she turned around over and over again to see the damage.
That's when her fight or flight kicked in and she started running around the house not even caring that pieces of glass slashed to bottom of her feet.
"Mum? Dad?" Robin yelled in distress as she looked into every tiny crevice. "If this is a prank then it really isn't funny!"
She opened and shut the closets, drawers, cabinets as if they would've been able to fit in there. Robin ran upstairs into their room and began to tear everything apart in hopes of finding them.
"Where are you?" Robin shouted into the empty house as tears streamed down her skin.
She ran back downstairs in hopes of them randomly appearing and saying "surprise!" but that was not the case this time. Robin slid down with her back against the wall and buried her face in her hands. The fact that she had school today already skipped her mind. The teenager sat there sobbing her eyes out for almost half an hour before going to grab her phone so she could call the police.
As Robin stood up she caught a glimpse of a piece of paper sitting neatly amongst all the chaos on the dining table. She hesitantly made her way over to it so she could see if it was something that indicated where they could be, but her shoulders slumped in dissapointment when she only saw a weird wheat symbol on it.
The day passed by in a numb haze. After she called the police about the matter her house was swarmed by men and women collecting evidence about the mystery that unfolded. Robin was pulled aside for an interrogation but all the voices were muffled as she watched them take photographs, measure the bullet holes, or grab stuff and put them away into plastic bags. The sixteen year old tried to reply to all the questions they asked but most of them were just answered with an "I don't know" or "I have no idea".
Robin had no idea what happened that night. How did she even manage to sleep through the whole thing? It must have been loud if they left such a state in the house. The teenager had many questions that she wanted answers to but didn't know where she would be able to find them. The girl however did take one piece of evidence with her: the paper with the wheat symbol. She tucked away into her phonecase where no-one would look.
That was how her life turned upside down. From then on, in the last few weeks, she has been hauled around the East Coast, being taken from state to state since they didn't know what to do with her. The police wanted to keep he close incase she would be of help to solve the disappearance of her parents but after a lot of back and forth she was sent to stay with her closest relatives: the Carreras.
That's why Robin was now sat on the ferry with her whole life tucked away in suitcases and bags. Her curly hair flew around her face as the wind got caught in it but all she could do was stare forward. The policeman who was sent as an escort sat there in silence, only making small talk a few times.
The girls mind was still clouded with the thought of what was going to happen to her now? She loved her cousin and her family dearly but they couldn't replace her parents. Would she need to go to school? Would she fit in? Will they hate her?
Robin tried not to focus on all the negative things as the boat finally came closer and closer to the shore. There she saw many people standing, most likely waiting for others on the ferry or just waiting to go back to the mainland after the boat turns around again.
The policeman stood up and hauled one of Robin's bags onto his shoulder and grabbed two suitcases. "Are you ready?"
"Yeah." Robin nodded as she also grabbed her remaining luggage. "As ready as I can be."
The man gave a small pitying smile as he began to push through the crowd that was also getting off. Robin let out a loud sigh and followed after him. It was good to be back in the Outer Banks, her second home, she just wished that the circumstances would be different.
Robin scanned the crowd of people once her shoes hit the solid ground in hopes of finding her family. It didn't take her long until Anna Carrera spotted the young girl.
"Robin!" She yelled with a smile as she started waving her hands in the air, making many people turn their heads to the noise. That only made Kiara sink down embarrassed.
The brown haired girl and the policeman approached them but once there was nobody infront of them Kiara lunged at Robin and enveloped her in a tight hug. The two of them jumped around while squeeling. Robin always got excited to see her.
"Hey, Kie." The teen chuckled, happy to see her favourite cousin, and hugged her back just as tight. "How have you been?"
Kiara pulled away but still held onto her shoulders, looking absolutely baffled. "How have I been? That is not important right now. How are you holding up? I'm so sorry about what happened."
Robin's face turned sour at the mention of the reason she was here, but she already decided to leave it in the past. What could she even do?
"I'm okay, Kie, believe me." She answered tucking a piece of her hair away from her face.
Kiara, not seeming to believe her, gave her a kind smile and hugged her again. "You have me, my mum and dad and the pouges. We will be by your side no matter what."
Robin only replied with a grin as she walked up to the two adults she also hasn't seen in ages.
"Oh, Robin." Anna said with tears in her eyes as she pulled her niece into a hug. "I haven't seen you in so long. You've already grown so much."
The girl only smiled her eyes glazing over with tears also.
"You look just like your mother." Robin's aunt said with a hand on her cheek.
Before Robin could burst into a sobbing mess, Mike pulled her into a shorter hug. He could feel the sadness from them all and quickly wanted to lighten the mood while also changing the subject.
"It's good to see you again, kiddo!" He patted her back and then motioned to her luggage. "Why don'twe go ahead and load these up in the car, yeah?"
Robin nodded in agreement, thanking him for changing the theme of the conversation. Her, Kiara and Mike all grabbed her suitcases and bags, dragging them to the car while Anna stayed behind to talk with the officer.
The three of them sat in the vehicle and after a few minutes Anna also came back, taking her place in the front. The car ride was filled with a happy atmosphere, which Robin was glad for since she didn't want to sulk everyday, and it was hard to keep a straight face as Kiara started rambling about everything she missed.
She was still going on and on about all the random stories she could think of even when they walked through the front door of their house. Robin's new home.
"And you won't believe what he said after that? He just goes "I hate Bob Marley", and I looked at him like he was crazy! Who doesn't like Bo--" Kiara said, filling her in about a random date she had not so long ago.
Mike grabbed her shoulders and pulled her away slightly with a smile on his face. "Alright, Kie, that's more than enough."
Robin laughed at the offended look on her cousins face as her father interrupted her big speech.
"We've enrolled you to the school Kiara goes to but you don't need to start right away. The principal was informed about your situation and they will send the lessons to you until you are ready to attend in person." Her uncle informed her and she nodded along.
Robin thought for a second until she looked back at him. "I'm ready to go, I don't need a time off at all."
"Are you sure?" Anna asked, her eyebrows scrunching up in worry.
"It would be nice to be surrounded by others my age and I have Kie there too." She replied with a small shrug as her cousin sent her a smile.
Robin really did want to go back to school by now. She missed weeks by now and she didn't want to be that lost if she went back. Plus her friends all attend the same school and with them she always felt happy, no matter what.
"Alright then!" Mike clapped his hands together with a smile. "Let's take up your stuff so you can unpack. Kiara will probably help you."
They all grabbed some of Robin's belongings and managed to go up the stairs. It turns out that her room was right beside Kie's, so that was nice. The two adults left them to it as they saw that their daughter was truly enthusiastic at showing her around her new room.
Kie started telling her about all the research she did so she could decorate the room so it matched Robin's personality perfectly. The walls were painted a pale blue, almost white, and the room itself was pretty spacious. She had a white closet and a few posters of her favourite movies on the wall. A few plants were scattered here and there and there was a small picture frame filled with pictures of them and the whole group of friends that they made all together.
The two of them managed to unpack all of her clothes, shoes, bags and everything else into their own spaces. Robin was even able to place all her trophies and medals onto a shelf that they attached to the wall just for her. It was also Kie's idea. The same way that the small, home built, tennis court in the garden was her idea.
By the time they finished with everything it was already mid afternoon. The two cousins layed on the bed hysterically laughing at a story Robin told but after a while it died down.
"Hey, Kie?" Robin asked as she stared up at the ceiling.
"Hm?"
Robin sat up and turned around to face her. "How's John B? He rarely replied to me..."
"He has his ups and downs, I mean his dad went missing at sea a few months ago." Kiara answered truthfully. "He missed you a lot, Pope and JJ did too."
"I missed you guys too." The brown haired girl replied with a smile which Kie returned.
That's when she got an idea and Kie could also tell by the way her eyes twinkled with a mischievous glint.
"Oh, no... what are you planning?" Kiara asked with a grin of her own.
Robin rolled back onto her back. "Do you think you would be able to round them all up to the Chateu?"
Kie nodded and already grabbed her phone from her pocket and began typing rapidly as she began giggling to herself. Robin quickly joined into the laughter at their forming plan. They looked like some type of Disney villains as they laughed evilly at their wicked scheme.
"I want to scare the shit out of them."
