FREYA had spent another night sleeping, unaware of where Five was.
She woke up to Alison standing over her, "Good-morning sleepy head."
She groaned, sitting up "Mornin'".
"Luther wants us to comeβ what's on your neck?"
Freya smacked her hand over the spots that still had color from the other night, "If I tell
You promise me you won't tell anyone?"
"Yes, but, did you and Five.." Alison trailed off, her sister shaking her head no,
"He was really drunk and I was laying there with him and he started kissing my neck and telling me all of this bullshit about how he's always wanted me."
"Maybe it wasn't bullshit." She shrugged, "Maybe he really meant it."
"I don't think so. He's just always avoiding me now, we use to be so close." Freya frowned.
"Yeah, I think he's just a grumpy old man." They both giggled, Alison offering Freya her hand to get out of bed.
She got herself dressed, and walked down stairs where everyone in the family besides Five was standing, Alison handing out coffees, "Three days?" She handed one to Freya.
"That's what five said." Luther confirmed, Freya knowing exactly what they were talking about.
"The old bastard did mention the apocalypse, come to think of it, he just left out the part about how soon." Hungover Klaus stated, slumping down on the ground against the couch.
"But can we trust him?" Alison asked, "I don't know if you've noticed, but Fives a littleβ" she made coo noises, spinning her finger around in circles next to her head.
Freya slumped down next to Klaus who shook her shoulder lightly, "Our little psycho."
Freya smirked, taking a sip of her hot beverage, "If he wasn't trying to stop an apocalypse, those crazy, brief case fucks wouldn't have been chasing him."
"That's why they were after him?" Diego asked, Freya forgetting she knew a little more than some.
"What did Five even see?" Alison questioned.
"Uh.. apparently, we all fought together against whoever was responsible." Everyone waited for Luther to say more, but he just clicked his tongue, "Okay. So, here's the plan. Uh, we go through Dads researchβ"
Everyone stopped Luther,
"What?!"
"Hold on, hold on."
"Wait a tick, wait a tick, wait a tick."
"What actually happened the first time around?" Klaus spoke, using his hands for emphasis, Diego backing him up "Yeah. What are you not tellin' us? Come on, big boy, spit it out."
Freya sighed, watching them pick on Luther, speaking up before he could, "We all died."
"What was that?" Alison inquired, hoping she heard wrong.
"I said," she cleared her throat, "We died."
Her siblings looked at her like she was insane, Luther knowing the same, put his head down.
Klaus and Freya jumped, an umbrella falling next to them and popping open.
The girl stood up, downing the rest of her coffee, and going to pour herself something stronger, everyone following her to the bar and asking multiple questions.
"No, we need to figure this out." Diego stated, Alison asking "Is it just us?"
"It's everybody." Luther answered.
"Everybody in the house?" Diego hoped.
"No, outside the house. Everyone is dead, everyone." Freya responded, turning her head and meeting his eyes.
"You're just now telling us this?!" Alison snapped, Diego coming to the girls defense almost immediately, "Wow, hey, don't put this all on her, your boyfriend knew too."
He pointed his finger at Luther, a soft voiced Vanya breaking it up "Hey."
"What's going on?" She asked, an unfamiliar man standing next to her.
"It's a family matter." Alison said, unintentionally hurting her sister's feelings.
"A family matter. So of course you couldn't bother to include me."
Freya rolled her eyes, as if that's what she meant.
"No," Luther started, "It's not like that. We wereβ"
"Don't let me interrupt." Vanya turned, starting to walk out.
"Wait. I'll fill you in later when we're alone."
Alison chased, her coffee in her hand.
Vanya whipped back around, "Please, please,
don't bother. And I won't either."
"Vanya, that's not fair."
"Fair?" She scoffed, "There's nothing fair about being your sister. I have been left out of everything for as long as I can remember. And I used to think it was dad's fault, but he's dead. So it turns out you're the assholes."
Vanya walked out, Klaus slapping his hand over his 'hurt' heart.
Freya knew that Vanya had gone through a lot, and she was left out for obvious reasons.
But the apocalypse was so much bigger than Vanya herself, she thought.
"I'm gonna go find Vanya and explain." Alison turned, Luther stopping her "No, wait, there isn't time. We need to figure out what causes the apocalypse. Now, there are loads of possibilities. Nuclear war, asteroids. But I'm thinking this is about the moon. Right? Dad must've sent me up there for a reason. And I was giving him daily updates on the conditions, I sent field samples. The first thing we need to do is find his research."
"Hold on. Hold the phone," Klaus interjected, "We all died fighting this thing the first time around. Remember?"
"Klaus shockingly has a point, what gives us a win this time?" Diego agreed, tossing his knife in the air.
Freya already knew what he was gonna say next.
"Five. Last time we didn't have him. We weren't all together. This time, we'll have the full force of the umbrella academy, that's what we need."
A part of her hated that Five was the main topic, another part knew she could talk about him all day, "If only we knew where Five was now."
"Well, he had a plan to change the time line, remember? He'll be back soon."
She must've forgotten that.
Diego tucked his knife back in to his pocket, "I'm going after Hazel and Cha-Cha."
Freya turned around, her eyes narrowed, "Right now?"
"Hell yeah. Three days, I'm losing light by the minute."
Luther stopped his head strong brother, "Wait Diego. I know you wanna avenge your friend, but we got bigger problems here."
"She wasn't just some friend, Luther. If I'm gonna die, I need to know I killed those bastards first. It's not about dad. The longer I wait, Hazelβ"
"What aboutβ" Luther attempted to cut Diego off, but the favor was instantly returned, "Stop making it about you."
With that, Diego turned and walked out.
Freya was next, her shoes clicking against the hard floor, "Diego, wait."
"What?" He spun around to face her on his heel, "You gonna tell me the apocalypse is more important, too?"
"No, I'm gonna tell you to be careful." She squeezed his bicep, "These will only get you so far. These are trained assassins, not some idiot criminals."
Diego took a deep breath, his eyes falling down to her hand before speaking again, "I'm sure I can handle it."
"Whatever you say, tough guy... Well, honestly, you sure you don't need any help? I could use a good fight, been a hard week."
"No, if these people are as dangerous as you say they are, you should stay as far away from them as possible." He crossed his arms, the girl mocking his sassy actions.
Freya went upstairs to hopefully take a nap, before she knew it she was back down stairs, the clock reading 8:15am once again.
"We all died fighting this thing the first time around, remember?"
"Klaus shockingly has a point, what gives us a win this time?" Diego backed Klaus up, the girl sitting at the bar having a weird feeling of Deja vu.
Electricity crackled, a blue light zapping, then a familiar body falling on to the bar right in front of Freya.
She gasped, almost falling off of her stool.
"You guys, am I still hight, or do you see him too?"
"Five, where you have you been!?" Freya scolded, her and Luther helping the worn out looking boy up "Are you alright?"
"Who did this to you?" Luther asked, Five speaking through his teeth, "Irrelevant." He grabbed Alison's coffee, walking a few feet away and slamming the rest of it.
"So, the apocalypse is in three days. The only chance we have to save our world is, well, us." Five acknowledged.
"The umbrella academy."
"Yeah, but with me, obviously. So if y'all don't get your sideshow acts together and get over yourselves, we're screwed. Who cares if dad messed us up? Are we gonna let that define us?" Five snarled, dirt coating his cheeks, chin, and nose.
"No." Klaus shook his head, all of them realizing he was right.
"And to give us a fighting chance to see next week, I've come back with a lead." He put his hand up, holding piece of paper, "I know who's responsible for the apocalypse. This is who we have to stop."
Freya hopped up, being the first one in front of Five with open hands.
She unwrapped the old paper, it read;
REASSIGNMENT: PROTECT HAROLD JENKINS
"Harold Jenkins?"
"Who the hell is Harold Jenkins?" Diego and Freya both asked.
Five slammed the very small amount of coffee left, throwing it behind him, "I don't know.. yet. But I do know that he's responsible for the apocalypse. So we have to find him. And we have to do it now."
"How's he connected to what's gonna happen?" Luther questioned, Five shaking his head "I don't know."
"Wait, so, you know his name, that's it?" Freya wondered, "That's enough."
"There's probably dozens of Harold Jenkins in the city." Diego stepped up, the young looking boy answering with a sassy tone "Well, we just better start looking, then."
"I'm sorry, am I the only one that's skeptical here?" Alison spoke up, starting to tick off her sister.
"I mean, how exactly do you know all this about what's his name?"
Five stuck his neck out, looking at her as if she was the stupidest person in the world, "Harold Jenkins. You know those lunatics in masks who attacked the house?"
"Oh, yeah, I think I remember those guys." When Klaus spoke, Freya smiled at him sarcastically "Yeah! The ones who attacked us while you were getting drunk."
"Yeah. Them. They were sent by the Temps Commission to stop me from coming back and preventing the end of the earth."
"The temps what?" Alison crossed her arms, stepping in front of Freya and next to Luther.
The girl bit her tongue, shutting her eyes for a brief second before walking over to the other side of Diego.
"My former employer. They monitor all of time and space to make sure that whatever is supposed to happen.. happens. They believe the apocalypse is coming in three days, so I went to commission headquarters and intercepted a message that was meant for said lunatics. Protect Harold Jenkins. So he must be responsible for the apocalypse."
The siblings all started to bombard him,
"What do you mean protect time and space?"
"Where is this Hazel, five?"
"Do you have any idea how insane this sounds?"
Freya grew overwhelmed, tired of the multiple noises at once and her siblings stubbornness.
"You know what else is insane?" Five pointed fingers, "I look like a thirteen year old boy, Freya is a damn psychic, Klaus talks to the dead, and Luther thinks he's fooling everybody with that overcoat. Everything about us is insane. It always has been."
Klaus slumped down on the couch, "He's got a point there."
"Can't argue with that." Freya sighed.
"We didn't choose this life, we're just living it. For the next three days, anyway."
"But the last time we tried to stop it, we all died. Why is this time any different? Why shouldn't I go home to my daughter?" Alison argued.
"Because this time, I'm here. We have the name of the man responsible. Guys, we actually have the chance of saving the lives of billions of people. Including Claire." He directed the last sentence at Alison.
"You know her name?"
"I do, and I'd like to live long enough to meet her."
Finally, Alison agreed, "All right. Let's get this bastard."
"I'm in." The other girl said, not surprising anyone.
"You had me at Gerald Jenkins."
"Harold Jenkins." Five spit in response to Diego, who brushed it off, "Whatever, I've already lost two people this week, I'm not loosing anyone else."
It was left up to one sibling, "Luther?"
"Yeah, you guys go. I'm gonna stay and look through dads files. I still think this has something to do with why he sent me to the moon."
"Seriously?" Freya scoffed, Diego backing her up, "Now you wanna make the end of the world about you and Dad?"
"No. Watch for threats; That's what he told me. You think that's a coincidence? This all has to be connected somehow." Luther defended, Alison stepping closer to him, "No, we should all stick together."
"We don't have time for this." Freya rolled her eyes.
"Let's roll. I know where we can find this asshole. Klaus, you're with me."Β Diego said, Klaus' voice sounding drained, "Yeah I'mβ good. I think I'm gonna.. I think I'll pass I'm.. feeling a little under the weather, so, uh." Klaus stood up, walking out.
No one intercepted, letting him pick his own path.
