RUBEN "RUBY" NICOLÁS, is a kind and gentle person. he's smart, compassionate, and he's fun in bed. oops. he wasn't one who typically slept around, no, he wanted to connect with one before he ever got into the whole touchy stage of the relationship.

in this story, and like many others, he had a loving family. a mother who worked each and every day so he could have everything he wanted back home in texus, and a dad who made him a home cooked meal each night for dinner. ruben and his whole family lived under one roof; his grandparents and even his aunt and two cousins.

his favourite cousin was the sweetest, she followed him everywhere like a lost little puppy, but ruben never minded. they were raised as siblings, and had alot in common. ruben tried to do everything he could for her when her brother had left and never turned back, he knew it had broken her heart, and he took on the role as her brother — not that he wasn't before.

he did as much as he could for her, from taking them to school when his aunt was busy. and even somedays, he'd take her to his own classes when she'd have a day off from school. he'd make sure that she had lunch money, even if it meant that he didn't have any. he made sure she had the best birthday presents, even if he had to work twice as long to do so. even if it meant he needed a second job.

when ruben turned nineteen, he enlisted in the army and got a full education and become a trauma surgeon. he was away for periods of time, and he missed his family. so so much.

so when his cousin / the girl who felt like his sister, graduated medical school and has finished her first year at seattle grace, he's given the opportunity to take a step back and find a job where she is.

he bought a one way ticket without telling her, and found a small simple apartment with two bedrooms — one for her and one for him. knowing she definitely hadn't gotten that far in planning, and was either sleeping in the hospital or in meredith greys frat house.

when he arrives in seattle he surly doesn't expect to meet a man whore — who changes his way of life — who over time he falls in love with.

but hey! life's full of surprises!
