deux. — diner chats!

( look how adorable zoey is i can't even )

There was a tense silence between the three occupants of the twenty-four-hour diner they were seated at, "So, you and Damon are vampires, Caroline is also a vampire who was turned by Elena's doppelgänger Katherine. Elena isn't my twin but my cousin, Bonnie is a witch. This guy," she gestured to Klaus who was watching her speak with an amused smile, "is a vampire wolf thing because Elena helped him, and like a billion years old," She pointed at Stefan, "and we're on a road trip to find werwolves for him to change into hybrid."

"Okay." She took a long sip of her strawberry milkshake.

"Okay?" Stefan echoed, his permanent brooding frown scorched on his forehead.

"I'm processing." She frowned furrowing her brows, only to smile widely as her chips arrived. Stefan stared desperately after the waitress and with a look of approval from Klaus followed her out the back.

Letha found that Klaus looked much less scary in the daylight, his golden curls, sea blue eyes, and soft pink lips looked much more appealing when the setting was not that of a darkened woodland. Through she wouldn't soon forget that those pearly whites could sharpen to kill anytime he wanted.

Klaus tilted his head in curiosity as he stared at her, she had her hair in a pair of messy french braids and was currently scoffing down her food as though she'd never see any again, "Why were you running?" (insert vine).

"What?" She mumbled out with wide eyes, as she chewed her chips slower.

"You were running away from home obviously, and when you saw Stefan you ran, yet you didn't know what he was at that point, so why did you run away?"

Letha pushed her plate away for a moment, before rolling up the sleeves on her jumper to her elbow, revealing the numerous tally marks printed on her skin, "I started noticing these a while ago, I've been leaving warnings for myself somehow," she grimaced at just how many lines there were, "this represents just how many times my sister and friends had me — what was it? — compelled? I also left myself some notes I guess."

His eyes widened, not only at the sheer amount of tally marks or the fact that the almighty saint Elena Gilbert would do that to her own flesh and blood, but the fact that this small, frail looking human managed to figure out she was being compelled.

It was almost unheard of.

"I've decided that you can travel with Stefan and I for the summer, and I'll get one of my witches to undo the compulsion, I'm sure you're just dying to know what they wanted you to forget."

Letha gave him a slightly suspicious look as she squinted accusingly at him, "What do you get out of this little deal?"

"Me? Why just the pleasure of your company." He smirked, stealing a chip from her plate before she could protest. At her disbelieving glance, he continued on, "Believe it or not Stefan's brooding can get very old rather fast. I'm sure you're much better company."

She smiled brightly at that unable to stop herself, she reached forward to dip a chip into her milkshake, only to stop at the warning growl the hybrid gave, "If you dunk that chip in your milkshake, I'm leaving you by the side of the road."

"Have you ever tried it?"

He scoffed haughtily, he may as well of shoved his nose in the air like a unimpressed woman named Karen, "I'm over a thousand years old, I have tried foods that no longer exist, I have tried foods from—,"

She cut him of by shoving a chip with a decent amount of milkshake on it, she almost got her finger bitten off but it was most certainly worth it. His face scrunched up in displeasure for a moment before it switched to a delighted surprise, "Good right?"

"You know there's so many ways I could kill you, love?"

"I know."

They spent the next hour dunking chips in milkshake and waiting for Stefan to clean up the mess he had made. The idea of vampires, werewolves, and witches was a mad one, and for a brief moment Letha thought that maybe she'd finally cracked and gone mad. Then she pinched herself several times and still found herself sat across from the hybrid.

As they got back in the car, Letha sat with her earphones placed firmly in her ears — she'd seen Klaus' playlist and wasn't impressed — Stefan couldn't help but worry for her. She was acting like everything was perfectly fine, just like she had when her parents had passed, he was afraid that one day she was going to explode. He was also worried about the web of lies he was weaving, Klaus believed Elena was dead but was lying to Letha about it, while Stefan knew she was actually alive and wasn't telling Klaus — he knew one day this was going to blow up in their faces.

Letha pulled out one of her earphones as Stefan leaned forwards from the backseat to talk to them, "How exactly are you planning on finding these werewolves?"

"We could try Craigslist," her eyes were as wide as saucers as the two gave her incredulous looks that screamed 'no', "seriously you can find anything on there!"

Letha thought it was a great idea, sure there were probably some weirdo's on the site, but chances were they could really find a wolf and hopefully a pack. She briefly wondered what it was like to be a wolf, to be able to shed your skin and wander free throughout the woods. Human responsibility's be dammed, to feel the wind rushing between your fur, and the dirt beneath one's paws. She imagined it to be a freeing and ethereal experience, yet the closest she would probably ever come to that feeling was when she was dancing.

Dance was her way of expressing her pain, forgetting all her troubles and woes for a moment in time where only she and the dance existed in perfect harmony. She tuned her head to look at Klaus, he'd briefly explained his curse, though hadn't mentioned how her sister had exactly helped him break it, but from what she heard it must have been agony for him. To have a part of himself locked away inside him, ready to be freed, only to have to wait for centuries on end. It sounded like torture.

Travelling with the two of them might not be so bad.

AUTHORS NOTE!
Feel like this charter was a bit short but eh.

I love including a little bit of myself within my characters. Which is why I decided to make Letha a dancer, as I used to be a dancer for quite a while and I loved it so much. Unfortunately I had an accident which meant I couldn't dance for 12 weeks and by the time I came back I was all out of sync and couldn't do the things I could before. I'm sure with time everything would have gone back to normal and I did try for quite a while, but I was so sad I ended up quitting. So, it's nice to have a character invested in dance, because while I don't anymore Letha does.

Besides every cloud has its silver lining, had I not stopped dancing I don't think I would have gotten into reading and writing, and this story and all my stories wouldn't be here right now. And I just couldn't imagine a world like that. Sorry for my ramble there!
