vingt. — the roaring twenties!
Letha was lying flat on her back in Klaus' bed, staring up at the ceiling, "I don't see why we can't go to the decade dance before we leave!" She whined, "Come on, don't you want to see me dressed up as a flapper girl."
"When you put it like that," he flipped the covers up, revealing himself to be laying between her legs, hands gripping her thighs, "how could I say no?"
"You can't." She hummed with a smile, "Hurry up, I've gotta get to school for CPR training — it's an essential skill." Letha couldn't wait for her online school to start when they left, she'd finally be able to pass maths because Klaus had all the answers.
"I could teach you."
She questioned doubtfully, "You know CPR?"
"It's simple enough — honestly you're lack of faith in me is hurtful." He grinned wolfishly before ducking his head back under the covers, intent on making her scream.
—————
After reuniting with Jeremy who Elena and Damon had brought back home, Letha's day had only gotten better — especially after how he told her all about Damon and Elena getting hot and heavy at some sketchy motel. It was a horrifying image, since she was her sister — but funny none the less.
"How was Denver anyway?"
He shrugged, the two were getting ready for the dance together at her's Jenna having smothered him with love when he walked through the door before having to leave, "It was alright," he frowned, "it kind of sucks that the only friend I made was Kol Mikaelson who was only there to threaten me for Klaus."
"Klaus didn't send him."
Jeremy rolled his eyes, "I get that he's your boyfriend—,"
"—no really. I sent him." She smiled guiltily, "He was just supposed to watch over you from a distance, I guess he got bored and thought you'd be alright to hang with. You're not completely uncool."
"Why did I need protecting?" He questioned scratching Rudy behind the ears.
"Do you remember when you were eleven and invented Human Bowling?" He scratched the back of his head guiltily, "You know having five people kneel on a hill as pins and you were the ball so you curled up and threw yourself down the hill to hit the pins."
"I remember."
"Yeah you broke your collarbone," she glared at him, "and my leg."
"It was funny though." Letha threw her hairbrush at him with a laugh, before going into the bedroom to get changed, "So you're really leaving town with him?"
"Yeah, I know it's probably reckless and stupid," she called through the door as she shimmed awkwardly into her dress, "but I lo— I really care about him."
Letha stepped back into the lounge as she was pulling on her elbow length gloves, "I'm glad you're getting out of this town," he huffed our his next words, "even if it is with him."
"Thanks." He pulled her into a hug. Letha wrapping her arms around his stomach, head buried in his chest, she'd always been so short compared to him. But his hugs were always comforting — never restrictive.

When the siblings arrived the dance was in full swing, Jeremy immediately split, she assumed to spike the punch. Not spotting Klaus anywhere yet she made a beeline for a lonely looking Alyssa stood on the sidelines, "Well aren't you the sexiest lady gangster I've ever seen." Alyssa was wearing a 1920s style women's suit, "Where's your flapper girl?"
"I think she's stood me up."
"Maybe she'll arrive with Nik," she pulled a flask out of her purse, "You want some of this."
"Sure."
Alyssa took a sip, immediately coughing in shock, "Is this soup? What the fuck—?"
Letha simply smiled taking the flask back. In the crowd she could have sworn she saw Klaus only for him to disappear when she blinked, "Well aren't you the loveliest lady in the room."
She spun around, smiling widely at the sight of Klaus in his white tux, her cheeks flushing red, "Thanks, you certainly look dapper," she teased, before looking around, "is Rebekah not here?"
"I honestly have no idea what is going on with her — one minute she's desperate to go and the next she disappears."
"On that note, I'm going to get some of the punch your brother spiked." Alyssa walked of with a confused huff as she typed away on her phone.
"I hope Rebekah's okay." Letha frowned.
"Don't worry, love." Klaus said with a smirk, "she always turns up."
She smiled shyly playing with a loose curl. The two staring at each other for several moments — feeling like they'd been transported to a whole different lifetime, "So, for tomorrow I've got a dance competition just outside of town so if you can get my stuff — and Rudy — from my flat and pick me up after we can ride off into the sunset together."
"Sounds romantic."
"It would be," she sighed dramatically, "if you weren't brining my sister with us."
"It'll only be for a little while — just until I have enough hybrids to protect you. And then she can go back to playing swap the Salvatore."
"That's what this is all about? Protecting me?" She laughed grabbing his hand, "I'm human, there's always going to be things that can kill me; a car crash, a heart attack, a dedicated duck. Hybrid's can't stop those things — well maybe the duck."
He gripped her hand tighter, "Enough of all this gloomy talk, I've just realised that I've never danced with you." He grinned, "And that is a true crime. You would've loved the 1920s, Lee. The girls were reckless, sexy, fun. They literally used to dance until they dropped."
"Let's see if we can recreate some of that magic."
Just as they were about to head to the dance floor, Damon appeared, "We have a problem."
—————
"This is nice. I'm usually the person who has no idea what's going on."
Letha spoke up awkwardly as Bonnie attempted to do a locator spell. Apparently Esther was back, again. And had taken both Alaric and Elena for her scheme — it was worrying knowing Elena was alone with the original witch.
"She does this all the time, right?" Jamie, who was apparently Bonnie's sort-of-not-brother questioned worriedly.
Klaus who was pacing the room, was quickly growing angry and she knew he didn't like being trapped by his mother, "What's taking so long?! All boundary spells have a loop hole."
"People are walking right out of the dance, past the barrier." Matt said as he reentered the room.
"Matt and I can leave, we can stop Esther ourselves. We just gotta find out where she is."
"Um, I think the fuck not."
Stefan replied at the same time as Letha, "It's suicide, Jeremy."
Letha put her face in her hands as Klaus rushed over and grabbed Jamie by the throat and started to strangle him, "Suicide would be disappointing me! Now work your magic, witch, or I'll start killing people you fancy."
"Let him go!"
"Not until you get us out of here." Both Letha and Alyssa watched on in complete annoyance.
"Ah, don't be stupid, Klaus. Bonnie doesn't give a damn about us. The only reason she's helping us right now is to save Caroline and Tyler. You start killing the people she cares about, she'll tell us all to go to hell." Klaus let go off Jamie with a huff at Stefan's words.
Alyssa placed a hand on Bonnie's shoulder, "You can do this. And you know that you can trust me," Bonnie raised a doubtful eyebrow, "because I don't care enough about you to lie."
Letha raised her hand a little, "You know I could—,"
"No." Almost everyone in the room said in sync.
"Hey! I'm tougher than I look!"
—————
Not long after that everything went down. Alaric had killed Esther everyone was safe — he was choosing to die, Letha had let her aunt know what was happening so she could say her final goodbyes to her ex.
Klaus and Letha had found Rebekah daggered — the hybrid pulling the dagger out while Letha messaged Alyssa what had happened and to come over. Standing before Esther's coffin, Klaus wrapped his arms around her from behind and rested his head on her shoulder as he stared hatefully at his mother, "Your trap failed, mother. I live and I will go on living. Let your beloved spirits try to preserve you again, I dare you to come after me! I will build an army so big, no one will ever touch me. My survival will haunt you through eternity. You will never destroy me!"
"She can't hurt you anymore, Nik."
—————
It was the next evening, Letha had left early in the morning for her dance competition with Jasper and Alex, she was cursing herself the whole time for accidentally not charging her phone the night before leaving her with a dead battery.
The three exited the place where the event was being held in high spirits, "Are you sure you can't come for a drink? One last hurrah?" Alex questioned with a pout.
"Yeah, before you leave us for your hot hunk of a boyfriend."
"That hot hunk is picking me up any minute." They did they're long complicated handshake one more time before having a group hug, "I'm gonna miss you idiots."
"I can't believe the three musketeers are being broken up." Jasper dramatically leaned against Alex, Letha letting out a teary laugh, "Hey! No tears, this is a happy occasion — you're travelling the world with a beautiful, rich man."
"You're making me sound like a sugar baby."
The three laughed again before bidding their final farewells. She'd already said goodbye to most people when she left Mystic Falls early that morning, and while it was painful she was ready for the next chapter in her life.
—————
Letha had waited a solid hour in the cold before she realised something was wrong. She called a taxi from a pay phone and went straight to his. Immediately she knew something was wrong, when she went to put the key in the door it was already unlocked.
"Nik?" Her voice echoed through the mansion, her heart skipping a beat when she noticed the wrecked furniture and evidence of a fight in the lounge, "Nik! If this is your idea of a joke it isn't funny."
"Letha." She gasped in shock, spinning around in confusion as she met Elijah's sad gaze.
"Elijah, what are you doing here? Where's Nik?"
"He's gone." His tone was deadly serious — and in that moment it felt like her heart had dropped out of her chest and all breath left her body, "They took him." He walked closer to her and put his hands on her shoulders. Eyes dark and though he hid it well — angry.
"But we're going to get him back, I give you my word."
AUTHORS NOTE!
Whew that was long chapter. I decided to sort of combine two episodes. So basically the episode where Alaric comes back and tortures Caroline and Klaus gets desiccated is when she is at her dance show if you didn't get that.
Drama in the next chapter... we're getting to the good stuff now.
I've decided I'm probably going to make the New Orleans/Originals stuff a sequel book instead of continuing it in Tally Marks — I just can't think of a bloody title though I'm sure it will come to me eventually.
Stay safe! Remember to vote, comment and or share please lovelies!
