14. The Moment of Truth
"Listen Up!"
Johnny walked out of his office and outside to the rest of the class. He stopped and looked around. He noticed that there were many new students in the dojo.
"I see we got some new recruits. Everybody fall in! In neat rows and lines," Johnny stood in front of the class and watched as everyone lined up.
"Time to see what you're made of," Johnny started to walk through all the students and he inspected them all closely. He came across two red heads who were slouching slightly.
"Straighten up, ginger twins," the two boys fixed their posture quickly as they kept their eyes forward. Johnny looked around the room once more until his eyes fell upon something unusual.
He slowly walked up the an adult that was standing in the middle of all the students. The man kept his eyes glued forward as Johnny walked up to him.
Jess looked at the man confused. She had seen him from somewhere, but she couldn't quite put her finger on it.
"Sorry, parents can't stay for class," Johnny said as he stood in front of the man, "it's an insurance thing".
"I'm not a dad. I...," The man paused as he looked up at Johnny.
"I am here to kick some ass, sir!"
Jess held back a laugh at how clueless the man was. Did he seriously think that he could be apart of Cobra Kai?
"Do I know you from somewhere?" Johnny asked. Jess listened closely since she also recognized the guy from some place.
"Oh, yeah, the, um...I sold you the mirror. We kind of bonded, talked about rock bands," The man explained. Jess looked at the ground remembering the time where she went with Johnny to the store. It was also the day that she ran into Robby and her dad. She shivered as she remembered the fight she had had with her dad that day, and that it was also the reason that she was now living with the Lawrence man.
Johnny looked down at the ground before he continued speaking, "Look, you're a little too old. This is a class for teenagers".
The man hesitated for a second, but spoke anyway, "Well, I...I can take them," he laughed. "I'm not afraid of kids, sir. And my mom, she doesn't charge me rent, so I just, I got a lot of cash to burn," he handed Johnny a stack of money which he accepted quickly.
"We'll consider this a trial run," Johnny walked back to the front of the class.
"I thought my last group of recruits were pathetic. But if you do what I tell you to do, you'll at least have a chance of becoming a fighter. But to do that you gotta fight. So, which one of you has the balls to take on the champ?," the dojo stayed silent as Johnny spoke. All the new kids looked at each other expectantly, waiting for someone to raise their hand.
All of a sudden, a female voice spoke from the back of the room. Jess and the rest of the students turned around to see a blonde haired girl. She had a tough look on her face, and if Jess was being honest, she looked badass.
"Oh, you will, huh?" Johnny asked crossing his arms.
"I saw you're little demo at Valley Fest. You guys can put on a show. But can you actually fight?" The girl smirked at Johnny who was slowly walking closer to her. Jess held back a smile. She liked this girl already. Everyone's face was shocked as Johnny looked at the girl with a serious face.
"That sounds like a challenge," Johnny said as he stared down at the girl.
"I like a challenge," the girl smirked. Her and Johnny held eye contact as he backed away, a challenging look in both their eyes.
"Mr. Diaz, show little Miss Hotshot here what Cobra Kai's all about," Johnny ordered. Miguel bowed at Johnny and walked towards the girl who was already standing in the middle of the dojo waiting for him.
Miguel walked up cautiously with his hands behind his back, "Look, are you sure that you wanna do-".
Miguel was cut off by the blonde girl throwing a kick to his stomach. He groaned in pain as he looked up at the girl who was smirking down at him. Miguel chuckled before turning serious.
"All right. Game on," The girl threw multiple punches at him, but Miguel blocked them easily. She backed away from Miguel for a second and Miguel couldn't help, but give her some advice.
"Close the gap," the girl rand towards Miguel and went to kick him, but he caught her leg and threw her to the ground. The class winced as the girl landed with a loud thud. She wasn't fazed though. She quickly rolled over and started throwing more punches.
"You're telegraphing!" Miguel said as he blocked the girls elbow from hitting him in the face. He kicked her in her lower abdomen and she fell to her knees with a painful groan.
"Don't let me see it coming," Miguel panted. Suddenly, the girl threw herself at Miguel and knocked him over. Once he was on the ground she did a cartwheel and stood up.
"Did you see that coming?" She said smugly as she looked down at Miguel. He grabbed her legs with his and pulled her down. Miguel stood up and held out a hand for her to take.
"My name's Miguel," he offered her his hand. She looked at it and took it, "Tory". She flipped him over and pinned him to the ground, "with a y".
The class stared at her in amazement. Jess couldn't help, but smile at the girl.
She was badass.

Jess and Aisha were walking around the store that was right next to Cobra Kai. Class had finished and so far Tory seemed to be the best at fighting out of all the new students.
"I'll be right back. I'm gonna go get something from over there," Aisha pointed at the beverage section. Jess nodded and went back to scrolling on her phone. It was quiet for a minute until a female voice spoke. Jess looked up and saw a girl that was new at Cobra Kai as well. She was a decent fighter, but Jess could tell that she needed more practice.
"Uh, hi. I saw you at Valley Fest and I just wanted to say that you were awesome," the girl had long brown hair that was put into a high ponytail. Her features were simple, but she was very pretty. She was a few inches taller than Jess, which was weird for her because she was fairly tall.
"Oh thanks," Jess smiled at the girl, "what's your name?"
"Ava. Ava Monroe," Ava smiled. Jess nodded, "Cool. I'm Jess. Jess LaRusso".
Jess saw Tory walk up to Aisha and she decided to head over in that direction as well. She turned back to Ava, "you want to hang out with me and my friend Aisha?". Usually Jess didn't offer for people to hang out with her, but she liked Ava. She didn't know why, but she did.
Ava smiled and nodded, "yeah that would be nice". Jess smiled and led her over to Aisha and Tory.
As they got there Aisha pulled out her phone and groaned in annoyance. Tory walked over and smirked, "Let me guess. Dick pick?"
Aisha laughed shaking her head, "No. My mom wants me to go to the beach club with her," Aisha sighed. Jess laughed.
"Well I'm lucky. I no longer have to deal with that," Jess said. She was happy that she didn't have to go to all the fancy parties and to the fancy beach. She never felt like she fit in because, well, she didn't.
"Why?" Ava asked.
"Do you guys know LaRusso Auto?" Ava and Tory both nodded.
"My parents own that business, so my family is crazy rich. I was always forced to go to things like the beach Aisha is talking about and all these stupid parties," Jess explained.
"Why don't you go anymore?" Ava asked as she pulled a water bottle out of the cooler.
"My family aren't on good terms right now. I mean, we never are, but I got mad so I just left," Jess told them.
"Oh shit. I'm sorry," Tory looked at the girl with sympathy written all over her face.
Jess shrugged and put her hands in her pockets, "it's not a big deal. My family are all assholes anyway".
"Jess, can you come with me, please," Aisha begged. Jess shook her head, "are you kidding me? And run the risk of running into my family? Fuck no".
"Oh come on! It will be fun. You guys can come too if you want," Aisha pointed at Ava and Tory. The two girls looked at each other and shrugged, "sure".
Jess sighed, "now I have to go because I don't want to be all by myself at-" Jess stopped remembering that no one except Miguel and Timmy knew that she was living with Johnny now.
"Great! Let's meet up at my house and we can all drive together," the four girls smiled at each other excited.
And this was the start of a new friendship.
——————✧◦♚◦✧——————
Jess, Ava, Aisha, and Tory entered the beach together. Tory and Ava's mouth hanged open in shock. The place looked nothing like a normal beach. It was more like a country club.
"Wow," Ava walked forward and looked around. Tory stood next to her as she observed the place.
"Ok. This is not the beach. Where are the homeless dudes on rollerblades and the guys shoving shitty hip hop demos in your face," Tory laughed.
Aisha laughed, "No, don't worry. They'll come after they pass out the hors d'ouevures," Aisha said sarcastically. The four girls laughed. Jess yanked Aisha's arm, "let's go get food I'm starving".
"We'll go find a spot," Ava and Tory walked away and Jess and Aisha went to get the food.
——————✧◦♚◦✧——————
Aisha and Jess were laughing as they piled food onto their plates. Jess was having a blast since she hadn't run into her family at all.
Suddenly, Aisha froze and scoffed. Jess looked over to see what had upset Aisha. Sure enough, standing right next to them was one of the last people Jess wanted to see, Samantha LaRusso. Jess rolled her eyes.
"This is my cue to leave," Jess left her food there and left. She ignored Sam's yells and kept walking. She saw Ava sitting in a pool chair, so she started walking her way. But as she got closer she noticed a certain green eyed boy sitting near her new friend. Jess groaned, frustrated that Robby was there. She decided to walk past him and hope that he didn't recognize her.
Her plan was working until Robby spoke, "Well if it isn't the one and only Jessica Elizabeth LaRusso. What are you doing here?" Robby said in a teasing tone.
"None of your business Dora. And call me by my full name again and I'll drown you," Jess walked over to Ava who sat there confused.
"I'm sensing you don't like that guy much," Ava laughed. Jess sat down, "I hate him actually".
"If you don't mind me asking, why? He seems nice. He even complimented my bathing suit," Jess scoffed, "what a suck up".
"I hate him because he's annoying and...well he's annoying," Jess glared at Robby. He turned around and caught her glare. He sent her a sarcastic wave, which made the LaRusso girl's blood boil.
"Let's just get out of here," Jess dragged Ava away and went to find Aisha and Tory.
——————✧◦♚◦✧——————
"There you are! We've been looking all over for you- what is SHE doing here?"
Jess paused as she noticed Sam was hanging out with Aisha. The two girls looked at her before looking back at Jess worriedly.
"We we're just talking. We, uh, we made up," Aisha explained. Jess looked at her in disbelief. Before she could say anything Tory came over with a bottle of vodka in her hand.
"Hey! Look what I got," Tory signaled to the vodka. Jess sighed in relief, "thank god! I need that so bad," she took the bottle and took a swig from it.
"Where did you get that?" Aisha asked as she watched Jess drink some. "I swiped it from the bar," Tory laughed. Sam and Aisha looked at each other worried.
"Oh relax. All the adults are getting wasted. No one's gonna notice if we have a little fun," Tory smirked. Sam, as usual, had to kill the mood, "you should put that back. You'll get into big trouble," Jess rolled her eyes, "what are you? A fucking nun".
Tory scoffed at Sam, "and you are?".
Aisha introduced Sam, "oh. Sam, this is Tory. Tory, Sam".
Ava and Tory shared a look since they had heard so much about the infamous Sam.
"Oh, the Sam," Tory raised an eyebrow at the blue eyed girl. Sam furrowed her eyebrows confused as to what the Nichols girl meant.
"Come on. Like anyone's gonna miss one bottle of vodka. I could swipe half the silverware in this place before anyone would notice," Tory said looking at all the clueless adults who were drinking in an effort to forget about their shitty rich lives.
"You shouldn't steal anything," Sam butted in. Jess rolled her eyes, "just shut the fuck up, Sam. How about you go back to eye fucking Willy Wonka".
"Come on, are we going to drink or not?" Tory asked Aisha. She hesitated for a second, but nonetheless agreed.
"Ok, one drink," Aisha said. Tory and Jess smiled.
"That's my girl," Tory said. The four girls threw their arms over each other's shoulders and walked away.
——————✧◦♚◦✧——————
"Wait, I'm sorry. You gave her a front wedgie?"
Aisha and Jess were telling Tory and Ava about the time that Aisha had put Yasmine in her place and given her a gift she would never forget.
"I split that bitch in two," Aisha laughed, "it was so badass," Jess smiled.
"Oh my god! I wish I could have seen that," Ava laughed. The four of them kept walking until they heard an annoying voice, and that voice belonged to the one and only, Sam LaRusso.
"Hey!" The blue eyed girl called out. The four Cobra's turned around. Jess immediately rolled her eyes while everyone else looked at Sam still laughing from what Aisha had told them.
"My moms missing her wallet," Sam told the four.
"Sucks for her," Tory had said making her friends laugh.
"You two wouldn't know anything about that?" Sam said looking directly at both Tory and Jess. Their faces both turned serious as they looked back at Sam.
"Wait. Wait, what are you saying?" Aisha asked dumbfounded, but Jess knew exactly what Sam was talking about.
"This bitch is accusing us of stealing, aren't you princess?" Jess glared at her sister. Sam chose to ignore her even though her heart hurt at the fact that in the past few year her sister had changed so much.
"Just give me the wallet, and I won't tell security," Sam threatened. Tory and Jess looked at each other shocked.
"Are you fucking kidding?" They both said as they glared at Sam. Aisha and Ava chose to stand up for the two girls.
"They didn't steal your mom's wallet," Aisha said desperately trying to change Sam's mind, "yeah. They were with us the entire time," Ava added.
"Right," she looked straight at Tory, "and she didn't steal a bottle of vodka, and you wouldn't steal half the silverware in here".
Sam then turned to her sister, "and you have a history of stealing things, so don't even get me started with you".
"Listen, we didn't rob your mom, bitch," Tory snapped. Her and Jess both took a threatening step forward before they both decided to leave it.
"Let's get out of here," Tory and Jess both went to walk away, but Sam had a different plan. She grabbed onto Tory's bag and Jess's back pack.
"Get off of me!" Tory pushed Sam off her and Sam let go of her bag, but lost her balance and fell. The only problem, she still had a grip on Jess's back pack. Sending Jess into the buffet table with her. They both landed with a loud bang and the table broke from the impact. The two girls were covered from head to toe in food. Everyone around them gasped in shock as they looked down at the two girls.
Jess sat up quickly and wiped some food off her, but it didn't make a difference, "what the fuck Sam!"
Sam desperately tried to apologize, but Jess wasn't having it, "just shut the hell up Sam! You always have to butt into everything and pretend to be perfect, but you know what? You're not! You're just as fucked up as the rest of us!"
Jess took a big chunk of cake that was on her and smeared it on Sam's face, "have a nice rest of your day big sis," Jess said with venom laced in her voice. Ava helped pull her up and the four friends left the club.
——————✧◦♚◦✧——————
30 minutes later
Jess angrily walked into Johnny's apartment and slammed the door. She was furious from what her sister did. And she wanted to get revenge. She just needed to figure it out first.
Johnny looked up from the kitchen where he stood eating a Slim Jim. His eyes widened as he saw the teenage girl covered in food.
"What happened to you? Did you get a little hungry or something?" Johnny asked laughing. Jess glared at him and flicked a piece of cake his way.
"No, Homeless Guy. My fucking sister pulled me into a buffet table because she thought I stole something," Jess explained.
"Did you kick her ass?" Johnny asked.
"No...but I will soon"
