. .

Allie pulls on the cold chains that bind her tired body to the brick wall and she instantly feels pain run up her arms as the metal cuts into her delicate skin. Her body still aches from yesterday's torture and she only allows herself little movement so she doesn't further aggravate her own injuries.

The many hours of painful solitude has turned her mind against itself as she can no longer recall how long she has been dangling there for. She shudders as she feels a spider crawl its way up her leg and begins to scream and shake to rid herself of its presence. She swipes at her leg still shrieking, only to find that she had imagined it. She trembles and scrunches her eyes closed as she tries to calm herself down and forget where she is. Even if it's only for a minute.

This loneliness is a vice on her heart, crushing her with just the right amount of pressure to be a constant pain.

She sits in overwhelming darkness. This is the darkness that robs you of your best senses and replaces it with a paralyzing fear. Her muscles are cramped and unable to move. She only knows that her eyes are still there because she can feel herself blink, but they never waiver from the barred window which she stares at.

The silence is deafening. It is the thick kind of stillness that sends chills down her spines. Completely absolute.

During her time in isolation, Allie has discovered that the most dangerous place to be is in her own head. In this cell, she no longer feels like the strong predator that she had been trained to be. In her manic state, she has become the prey of her own monsters.

As she suffers nothing but bleak walls for company, she turns to the comfort of her mind only to find that it offers no relief. The constant what ifs plague her thoughts bringing nothing but insanity to an already insane place. What if she didn't try to escape? What if she wasn't caught? What if HYDRA is doing the right thing? What if she is absolutely crazy? No, no, she knows that she is absolutely crazy. Questions are constantly whirling around in her brain and overwhelming every other thought. As you can see, it is a lethal cycle and she is the unfortunate victim.

Suddenly, Allie hears the steel door of her cell open and the conversation between two German soldiers chatting grimly to each other pierces the silence of the room. The soldiers clad in dark grey garments with the familiar HYDRA symbol embroidered on their breast, push a man into the room and harshly chain him to the same brick wall. The prisoner grumbles and groans as the guards adjust the metal shackles on his wrist and then proceed to scream profanities at the man in German.

The darkness envelopes his figure, making it hard for Allie to see who her new 'friend' is. The HYDRA soldiers send what seems to be a bone-crushing kick to the man's ribs and then finally, they exit the cell. The man hollers in pain and follows up with a scream in outrage, "What the hell does that even mean!" before the door is slammed shut and the room returns to its usual cold, dark environment.

The man groans and throws his head back against the wall, oblivious to the other human that sits across from him eyeing him up and down. Allie can now vaguely pick out a few of the man's features now that the guards aren't blocking her view.

It would be stupid to not say that he is attractive even in the conditions that he is in. His brunette hair is swept off to the side, framing his soft yet masculine face whilst his stunning crystal blue eyes stare up at the ceiling in annoyance. Dirt clings to his tired body and the uniform that he is wearing seems to be an American one, which is fairly hard to tell due to all the cuts and pieces that have been torn off during some sort of altercation. 'American soldiers are dangerous and should be killed on sight' she recalls from her training, yet, her instincts tell her to try and befriend the man as he could aid her in her escape from this wretched place.

Yes, that may be using him but he is also benefiting from this right? She questions. He gets to go back to his friends and family and can continue fighting in the war whilst she can finally get the freedom which she craves.

The man's eyes must have finally adjusted to the darkness of the cell as they flick around before landing on Allie. His body freezes and his eyes scan her up and down, no doubt trying to see if she is a threat. He might not think she is any sort of threat to him but she has taken on bigger men than him and won, which means he should stay on his toes. But unfortunately for him, he doesn't know that yet.

"What are you in here for?" He asks curiously, still holding onto caution as his muscles remain tense and on edge but he lets a small smile overtake his lips. Smiles in isolation are a rare occurrence which shocks Allie. Even his politeness is foreign. She looks silently at the man for a few seconds but then decides to answer his question. May as well get to know him if we are both going to be stuck here forever, she grumbles.

"I tried to escape and I attacked a few of their guys. And you?" Allie replies evenly, attempting to sound casual. His face contorts into bewilderment but he still manages to retain the small smile that weirdly, brightens the dreary room up the tiniest bit.

"I was captured in battle and I was brought to this hellhole. My battalion was confined in the cells but I tried to ask for a blanket for a comrade who had pneumonia and got sent here. At least I can't catch it now..." He trails off as his eyes gaze over the uniform that she is wearing. Panic and fear are reflected in his eyes and maybe even a bit of anger. " You are one of them?" He snarls. Yep, definitely anger.

She narrows her eyes at him and cranes her head to the side mockingly, " Did you not listen to a word that I just said? I tried to escape so I don't have to be 'one of them'" She replies frustratedly, curling her fingers around the venomous words.

"And we are both prisoners in here so don't act all high and mighty when we are both in the same boat," she replies curtly and brushes his words off as if they were nothing.

His words didn't hurt her, but she can't deny that the judgment and hate that clouds his eyes despite not even knowing her situation did hurt her in the slightest way possible. She had been brought up believing in something that may be completely wrong but to her, she didn't know any better. Surely, he would have been indoctrinated in unfair teachings just like her, but it is different now they are at war with each other.

Every different belief or custom from the opposite side is immediately considered wrong without even knowing all the details. However, she does understand that the side in which she has been forced to stand on has done absolutely horrible and unjustified things to some good people.

But that does not matter now, her new acquaintance doesn't need to know everything about her background or else she won't be able to get out of here. If she tells him the horror stories that plague her very being, he would immediately distrust her and leave her to rot. Well, she thinks, if I was in his position I would, so I can't take any chances.

"Anyway, are you in the army?" She asks hoping to break the tension in the room as she spots his half broken insignia on his chest. Bucky continues to stare at Allie, still unsure whether he should trust her or not as she is technically his enemy. However, Allie notices his hesitance and rolls her eyes in frustration. "Seriously, I'm not going to hurt you! I'm a bit busted up myself if you can't tell already." She grunts angrily.

His eyebrows furrow in confusion and his body relaxes somewhat at her previous words. He releases a sigh and nods his head in understanding. " So why did you try to escape?" He asks with curiosity lacing his question. His body inches the slightest bit forward, his interest piquing at the mysterious woman who is chained up beside him but anger can still be seen in his eyes.

"Well, that's a long story for another time Mr...?" She says and awaits his reply. "Barnes, James Buchanan Barnes or otherwise known as Bucky" He responds promptly and lifts his hand that is bound in chains, to tip an invisible hat at her. She shakes her head in amusement and lifts her uninjured hand out to her sides, faking a curtsey.

"Good day Mr. Barnes, I'm Alexandra Williams. Or perhaps if you are lucky, you can call me Allie." She states with a wink before she lays her head back against the chilled bricks with a barely audible groan. Bucky's eyes furrow at the sound and concern covers his face.

"Are you all right there doll?" He questions and watches as a grimace that was meant to be a smile overtakes her face.

"Yeah I am all right, just need to stretch is all." She replies nonchalantly with a slight shake of her head. "But Bucky, do you know how long you are in here for?" She questions, adverting from the previous line of questioning.

Bucky shakes his head in response and dark tendrils of hair fall in front of his face, framing his alluring cerulean eyes. "No I don't, do you?" He inquires.

She lets out a dejected sigh and also shakes her head. "I am going to be in her for a very, very long time Bucky." She mutters.

"Well then, it looks like we are stuck together doll," Bucky responds with a smile and wink, resting his hands behind his head much like pillows. Allie lets out a little laugh relaxes against the wall.

"It seems so."

. .

Later that night, Bucky is awoken by the sound of the steel door of the cell opening. He jerks up to his feet suddenly, tensed and ready to fight as a HYDRA soldier walks into the cell and throws two pairs of clothing on the bed. The guard then walks over to Bucky and grabs ahold of his wrist harshly, and in retaliation, Bucky thrashes in his hold screaming at the man to get off of him.

The guard jerks Bucky's arm behind his back swiftly then yells angrily into his ear. "Hören Sie auf sich zu bewegen. / Stop moving."

Bucky flails even more at the words that he doesn't understand and narrowly clips the soldier on the chin with an elbow. The guard swears violently and pushes Bucky against the brick wall, creating a small gash on his cheek.

"Bucky, stop fighting," Allie says sharply as she glares at the soldier. Bucky eyes her cautiously for a second and then nods, signaling his submission. The guard furiously pulls off the chains that bind Bucky's wrists and then carefully moves across to Allie who still remains seated on the floor.

"Eine Bewegung und du bist tot. Verstehst du? / One move and you're dead, do you understand?" The guard grunts as he lowers himself to the ground and grabs Allie's wrists. She nods slightly and hisses in pain as he pulls at her injured arms.

Bucky watches the altercation between the two, noticing Allie's constant whimpers and angry eyes. He automatically inches closer to the girl that he has only known for a short amount of time but feels responsible for helping. Once the guard uncuffs her wrist, he stands up and goes out of the room for a second before returning with food in his hands. Bucky watches as the man glowers at him and then bends down and carelessly places a bowl of revolting looking slops on the floor.

"Guten Appetit / Enjoy," He growls as he stalks out of the room and slams the door closed. Bucky's eyes then flick over to Allie who sits silently on the floor, trying to rub away the aches in her wrists. She lifts her eyes up to meet his gaze and nods towards the food.

"It's all yours if you want," She speaks and stands up to go change into her clothes. She sits on the bed and looks back over to Bucky whose eyes are still trained on her.

"Well? It's not very chivalrous of you to stare at a woman while she changes?" She retorts and watches as his cheeks begin to tint with a slight redness. He rolls his eyes and turns around, picking up the horrid bowl of slops and stares at it in disgust.

Allie turns around as well and attempts to unbutton the front of her HYDRA uniform but finds the task quite challenging as her broken arm causes quite an obstacle. She grunts in irritation as she slowly gets the buttons of her uniform undone which makes Bucky's ears perk up in confusion.

"Are you right there doll?" He questions, resisting the urge to turn around and see what is causing Allie so much grief. In response, Allie huffs and shakes her head as she tries to pull the clothing off her shoulders.

"No I am fine, thank you." She answers bitterly as she tries to pry the soaked rags off with only one hand. She furrows her eyebrows in concentration as she slowly gets the fabric to move. Bucky lets out a small chuckle and places the dish down onto the floor.

"Are you sure? Because from here it sounds like you might need a bit of help?" He replies barely holding back a laugh. He hears her groan again causing him to let the hearty laugh slip past his lips, filling up the room with its joyous sound.

"I'm fine Bucky! Stop laughing at me!" She groans, now tugging at the clothing that just won't move. She pulls and pulls at the coarse fabric but it refuses to budge from its spot. Allie's comment only makes Bucky laugh even more and his chest heaves and shakes because of the melodious noise that continues to leave his lips.

"Here, just let me..." He trails off as he turns around and sees some of the scars that litter Allie's back. His laughter immediately ceases and his eyes widen as he examines the damaged skin. He sees the whip marks which are weeping and bleeding, her many bone colored scars that have healed and the purple veins that had flared up because of the electricity that she endured. He steps forward, not takings his eyes off the marks and gently runs his finger above the scar that sits directly below her neck. She seizes up at his touch but doesn't move. Instead, she closes her eyes as she feels the warmth of his finger seeping into her aching skin.

"What did they do to you, doll?" He mutters in disbelief. He analyzes each mark slowly and places a gentle hand on her shoulder. The mangled scars look out of place on her ivory skin, each one taking its own unique shape as they cover each and every corner of her back. Every mark an untold story of her childhood. Each one a painful memory, that is just the same or perhaps even worse than her nightmares. They vanish when she's awake, but in times like these, they burn with the reminder of each and every one of her faults.

She lets out a sigh at his gentle caress and turns around slowly, meeting his sorrowful gaze. "I have been here ever since I was 5. And since I abandoned HYDRA, I earned these." She whispers as her gaze does not waver from his. His jaw clenches and the gears in his head spin as he looks over to her exposed shoulder and sees similar marks there. She follows his train of eyesight and lets out another small sigh. "Can you please help me?" She mutters tiredly. Bucky raises his eyes back up to her and gives her a small nod and smile.

"I thought you didn't need help?" He chuckles uneasily, completely aware of the tension that fills the air. He slowly reaches up to roll the fabric down one arm, easing it off as it clings to the dried blood from her cuts that still linger. Each time he reveals another mark left by her torturer he flicks his eyes back up to Allie who continues to stare at his hands that delicately hover over her arm.

"I know when I need help." She murmurs, watching his long fingers skillfully remove her arm from one side of her uniform and go to the other side. He, unbeknownst to him, picks up her broken arm and she grimaces in response which doesn't go unnoticed.

"Sorry doll, what have you done there?" He mumbles as he tries to be even more careful when he takes off her clothes. She lets out a pained sigh and puts her uninjured hand on top of his to stop his movements. He looks up to her questioningly and raises an eyebrow in concern.

"I think that I have a closed transverse break in my radius," Allie replies glumly as she lifts her arm up in front of her, analyzing the damage. Bucky's eyes widen with shock and confusion as he places his hand underneath her arm.

"So... You have a broken arm?" He says bewilderedly and Allie replies with a nod at his question. "Well then, when you get these clothes off we could rip it to make a sling for your arm if we can't you any medical treatment. How did you do it though?" He asks as he returns to his task of slowly rolling down her clothes from her upper body.

"Schmidt snapped it when I was punished for my attempted escape." She grumbles just as Bucky successfully pulls the top half of her uniform off. He stares back up to her face awkwardly, avoiding looking at her chest as he feels that this isn't the time nor the place to eye her like a piece of candy.

"There you go doll, I'll let you do the rest yourself if you think you are up to it?" He says with a meek smile and takes a step back at her nod. "But he really snapped it! Damn, I can see why you left!" He remarks as he goes back to his spot by the door and turns around, giving her some privacy whilst she continues to change.

"Yeah, but let's not dwell on that shall we? Let's talk about those delicious looking slops that you still haven't eaten!" Allie responds mockingly and shimmies out of the bottom of her uniform. Bucky laughs as he faces the wall and picks up the metal dish and eyes it suspiciously. Just the sound of his laugh brought a smile to Allie's lips. A genuine smile that felt so foreign on her face because the last time she had smiled like this was when she was 5 years old. The last time she remembered even having a conversation with someone who perhaps was just looking for friendship was 18 years ago. Bucky could be the first person she has ever actually let into her life if she lets this relationship develop.

"Now you sound like my mother!" He laughs as he pushes the disgusting food away from him and into the far corner. Yes, Bucky could become her first ever 'friend' but right now she just needs to worry about getting herself out of this place and if she can help Bucky do the same then she will. She can't do that if she is constantly worried about his wellbeing and making sure that he doesn't get hurt. Knowing HYDRA, they will treat Bucky much worse than what they have treated her all because he is from America. So she has to make sure that he gets better care than what he would normally get because if she has learned anything from her last failed escape, it is that she can't do it alone.
