thirteen, la push
thirteen, la push
twilight
It is cold. Freezing. But Mike, Tyler, Jessica and Juno were suiting up away ways for a surf. Eric, bouncing from one foot to the other, hadn't decided if he should be suiting up and showing everybody how horrible he was at surfing, or if he should make some lame excuses to hang back with the girls.
Clover gives him a gentle nudge as she hands him his wet suit that he had left in the bed of Bella's truck. "Here," She's grinning, wickedly, as if she just gave him the final nudge into actually living up to what he said he would do.
She isn't too far as he gets into his wet suit, making a complaint about how he should have wore it under his clothes so it would have been easier. Clover laughs lightly, telling him that nothing is ever as fun as it can be if they take the easy way there.
Clover walks away when Erik heads to the water, yelling for the others to come back so they can surf out together. Like knights riding off into the sunset. She heads towards Bella and Angela, who both are already walking along the driftwood, chatting about boys.
Chatting about Erik. Clover had a feeling that Angela liked Erik, by the way she had accidentally seen the girls journal where she had wrote her name with Erik's last name.
"You could ask him. Take control. You're a strong independent woman." Clover buts in, having heard the last comment about how Erik still hasn't asked her to prom. She can see why, he's a nervous kid full of a hundred different wires. She's watched him hold out his hands to make sure he has his left and right correct.
"I am?" Angela turned towards Clover, almost loosing her footing in the sand. "I am."
"Bella!" Jacob Black is approaching, three others behind him. Sam, Embry and Paul. As one shouts for Bella, the other heads straight towards Clover, a goofy grin resting on his face.
They're closer now. It's only been a few weeks of tutoring, but Paul has shown her that the whole tough guy persona is just a mask. Deep down, with her and Juno. He's a sweetheart who still really hates math though.
Bella smiles genuinely, her cheeks turning a small shade of red. "Clover, Angela, this is Jacob." She turns her attention to the boy she knows. "Are you stalking me?"
He lets out a quiet laugh. "You're on my rez, remember? You surfing?"
Bella shakes her head as Angela throws her arm over her shoulder. "Bella, surfing, you're too funny."
Clover is deep in conversation with Paul about their next session, when she hears that Bella invited Edward to La Push.
"What date?" Jacob's eyes flash, with something that makes Clover feel uneasy. Paul notices, moving so he's standing in front of her ever so slightly. As if he knows what could happen if something upsets Jake.
"She invited Edward. To be polite, Bella says. He bailed though." Angela tells the boys, as Bella's cheeks flush crimson. She looks down, embarrassed. "I think it's nice she invited him. No one ever does."
Sam scoffs, his tone hard, voice sharp. "Cullen's a freak."
Clover is curios now. It's the way that Sam has spoken, like he knows something that no one else does.
Jacob shoots Sam a warning look, shaking his head slightly. Clover notices this exchange, her curiosity piqued even more. A beat, then she casually pulls Paul aside.
"Want to go look at tide pools? I can never find the good ones." She offers Paul her arm, looping his with hers at the elbow, not in a romantic way, more platonic, just a friendship and nothing more.
"Sure, Clo." He walks with her, leading her towards his favourite tide pool where the little fish nibble at their toes.
"So, what did your friend mean about the Cullens not coming here? Is there like something wrong with them?" Clover questions quietly, her eyes darting around to catch anyone who's looking, anyone who could hear them.
"Nothing, Clov. He means nothing." Paul says, his voice is a little harsh, but he's nothing trying to be mean. He just needs her to know this isn't up for discussion.
Clover holds out her pinky. "I won't tell."
"Ask your dad." Paul tells her, he's wearing a mask. His face is hard, he's not letting anything go. On the inside, he's desperate to tell her everything. "He'll tell you when you're ready."
So Clover leaves it at that. She doesn't push, but she tucks her hands into her pockets and takes a few steps away from him. Distancing herself from him, as if she's any closer and she would keep pushing.
They make small talk as they walk, but Clover is still trying to keep things quiet. She don't wanna ask again, despite the pressure building in her chest that's saying "ask him!"

Clover is sitting at the dining table, waiting for her dad to get home. He had stayed even later than she had thought, working on marking some Math assignments. Despite it being a half day friday, he decided that he'd stay and do everything.
When the door swings open, and Wyatt sees his daughter sitting at the table, hands pressed together and her eyes on the door, he steps back and closes the door. He hides himself from her. He stands on the porch, knowing, what his daughter's going to ask.
He knows. He just knows.
So Wyatt takes a step back, and decides that he'll call his daughters from his brother's house and spend the night on Charlie's couch.
He decides that it's easier to talk to them tomorrow, than doing it right now.
