CHAPTER SIX:
PLANET C-53
IT WAS ONLY a couple of hours since the two Krees had landed on planet Earth, or the planet they called planet C-53. It was now bright outside, the nighttime having gone down and the daylight now up as the sun shined down on the many civilians that were walking around and living on planet C-53.
The same security guard from the night before could still be seen in his vehicle, shock still taking over his features as he watched the two Kree people from afar as they stood at a phonebooth. He had watched when they infiltrated the Radio Shack store and didn't do anything, waiting to see whatever they'd do before he called the police.
Meanwhile, in the view of his gaze, F/n and Vers could be seen standing together, Vers more in the phonebooth as he held the phone to his ear while F/n used her smaller fingers to connect the stuff they had gotten from the radio shack store and connected it to the pad screen of Vers' suit that laid over his arm. A hologram of Yon-Rogg had soon appeared.
"F/n? Vers?" Yon-Rogg's voice comes through. "Verify. CTC-39."
"GRXV-1600. And we're fine, thank you for asking." Vers tells him with sarcasm in his tone. "Is everyone okay? What happened?"
"Skrull ambush. I thought we'd lost you both." Yon-Rogg admits, shaking his head. "Did you find Soh-Larr?"
F/n takes the phone, placing it to her ear. "It wasn't Soh-Larr. Talos simmed him. Even knew his code."
Yon-Rogg shakes his head, furrowing his brows. "That-- That's impossible. That code was buried in his unconscious."
"The Skrulls messed with our minds. The machine that they used..." F/n begins as she thinks back over what the Skrulls did. "I think it's how they extracted Soh-Larr's code."
Yon-Rogg seems to lean closer. "F/n, where are you both?"
"We're on planet C-53." F/n reveals, glancing around.
From his hologram, Vers noticed Yon-Rogg seem to lean back as he took in her response, seemingly thinking about something. Remembering what he had heard when he first woke up on the Skrulls ship, the blonde takes the phone from F/n and puts it back to his own ear.
"The Skrulls are looking for someone named Lawson." Vers recalls.
"Who?" Yon-Rogg asks.
"She's..." Vers mumbles, trailing off for a moment as F/n stares at him with a frown. "...who I see."
Yon-Rogg raises a brow. "She's what? Vers, what?"
Vers closes his eyes, shaking his head. "She's a scientist. They think that she's cracked the code on light-speed tech. We have to get to her, before they do or else they'll be able to invade new galaxies."
"No. You've both been caught once already." Yon-Rogg objects, turning to someone else. "How far is C-53?"
"Closest jump point is twenty-two hours." Att-Lass' voice replies.
"Vers, F/n, hold your position until we get there. Keep your comms online so we can contact either of you." Yon-Rogg commands.
"No! What if they get ahold of it before--" Vers begins.
He stops himself when a beep occurs through the phone before an automatic voice speaks about the phone not being in use anymore. When he drops his arm, F/n is quick to realize it stopped working as the hologram of Yon-Rogg disappears. A groan of annoyance escapes the blonde as he unhooks the wire.
Meanwhile, not too far behind them, sirens could be heard as vehicles pulled up towards the same building they had landed in just a few hours ago. As Vers did something, F/n looked down at the screen on the arm of her suit, her fingers tapping at the screen. Beeping sounds could be heard from the comm just when a knock on the side of the phonebooth, causing the two to turn around to see a man standing there.
"Excuse me. You two know anything about a man and a lady blowing a hole through the roof of that Blockbuster over there?" The man questions as he motions to the Blockbuster building with a hole in the roof. "Witness says they were dressed for laser tag."
"Yeah, I think they went that way." F/n replies, pointing in a different direction before grabbing Vers hand and beginning to walk off.
The man quickly moves in front of them again. "I'd like to ask you two some questions."
The two of them watch as he opens his jacket a bit, reaching into the inside pocket before bringing out a wallet. With one hand, he opens it up and reveals his identification on a card inside to the two. F/n's e/c eyes read the words, learning his name Agent Nicholas Fury.
"Maybe give you the 411 on the late night drop box." Fury adds with a little smile, closing his wallet. "Could I see some identification, please?"
"Vers. F/n. Kree Starforce." Vers tells him while pointing at himself and then to the girl beside him. "We don't carry our identification on little cards."
"Vers? F/n? Starforce?" Fury repeats in disbelief, stopping them from leaving again. "How long you guys plan to be in town?"
"Oh, we'll be out of your hair as soon as we track down the Skrulls that are infiltrating your planet." Vers assures.
Fury chuckles. "Skrulls?"
"Shapeshifters? They can transform into any lifeform down to the DNA." F/n informs, watching as Fury looks to a man behind him with a giddy smile. "Oh, no. You guys don't have any clue, do you?"
Vers already seemed to be tired of these men as he pulled on F/n's hand that he had been holding onto, his shoulder brushing against Fury's as he moved by him. However, when Fury was ushering them to stop, his hand grabbing the blonde's arm, Vers was quick to take his arm out of Fury's hand while narrowing his eyes on him.
"How do we know you guys aren't one of those shapeshifters?" Fury asks, moving his hands a gesture as he tried to fight his smile.
"Congratulations, Agent Fury. You have finally asked a relevant question." Vers comments.
Fury shakes his head. "No! Congratulations to you, Starforce people. You are both under arrest."
The police officer standing behind them brought out one of his handcuffs as he took a step towards them. Neither F/n or Vers moved as the female noticed something behind Fury, nudging Vers' arm. The blonde follows her gaze, body tensing. Fury seemed to have noticed they weren't paying attention and he follows their gaze by looking over his shoulder, seeing someone crouched on the roof of a building.
However, what surprised him was a gun aiming right at them. Just as the person shot the gun, he was pushed to the side and into the phonebooth by Vers as F/n dodged the laser shot. The humans around them held worried faces when they realized the gun wasn't a normal gun. Standing straight back up, F/n thrusted her arm towards the Skrull, blasting a slight hole onto the side of the roof of the building.
Ignoring the humans, she was quick to run off in the direction the Skrull had gone to, shouting for Vers to follow. The blonde didn't hesitate, his hands leaving Fury's shoulders as he followed right after her, eventually catching up as the two of them ran side by side. They could hear some shouting behind them that sounded like Fury, but didn't bother looking back, too focused on finding the Skrull and killing it before it could do any other harm.
Vers was quick to grab F/n's hand when he noticed a figure running up some stairs not too far ahead of them, having noticed F/n was gonna continue running. F/n followed where he was looking before glancing up at a train that was moving to it's stop. They were quick to move again, sprinting in the direction of the train station. Some people looked at them strangely when they ran by them, but the Kree didn't pay them any mind.
Vers was the first to jump up, pushing his feet against the fence as he moved to climb up towards the train. F/n was right behind him, a grunt escaping past her lips as her hands slammed against the fence. It didn't take them too long to get up, the train in sight. They jumped over some stuff, sprinting up the stairs. Just when they got to the top, Vers bumped into an elder woman and only took a mere glance at her before looking away.
The train was already moving again when they noticed the familiar Skrull disguised as a surfer inside the train, already looking right at them. The Kree grabbed each other's hands, rushing after the train as it was close to leaving the station. Just as the end of the train came up beside them, they didn't hesitate to jump and grab ahold of the train, dangling at the back. Letting go of F/n's hand, Vers swung his fist and broke the glass window.
He placed his hand on F/n's lower back, letting her go through the window first before he followed. F/n shoved the door open where all the humans were. The chattering in the cart went quiet at the sound of the door opening, everyone's eyes looking towards the two of them. F/n stopped for a moment, glancing around before blowing a piece of hair out of her eye, her tired breath escaping her lips.
The humans watched as they began walking past the seats, looking at each of them in hopes of finding the Skrull. However, none of them seemed suspicious enough. Some people even cowered in their seats, wide eyes staring up at them in fear. F/n slowed her pace when she noticed someone holding a large red book up and covering their face. Narrowing her eyes, she grabs the end of the book and pushes it down a bit.
The elder man who had been reading the words aloud to himself looked up at the female Kree, giving her a toothy smile. F/n tilted her head as she noticed he seemed completely oblivious and she gave him a smile back. The man went back to his book as the two continued down the aisle until they were exiting the cart, entering the next one. It was silent as people looked at the Kree, some eyeing them weirdly.
F/n had continued on forward in a slow pace with Vers not too far behind her. The blonde let his eyes roam around, seeing an elder woman sitting down and at the sight, he froze in his spot right in front of her. He fully turned to face her, which caused the elder woman to look up with a curious gaze. Vers narrowed his eyes, recognizing the woman to be the same one he had bumped into off the train.
When they met eyes, the elder woman gave him a polite smile. That didn't seem to ease Vers as he clenched his jaw, lifting his hand before swinging it and nailing the woman right in the face, causing her head to swing to the side. A lot of gasps and quiet chatters could be heard in the cart as everyone looked towards the commotion. Some people even began yelling at the blonde while F/n had turned to look as well.
A slight anger seem to have come across the woman's face as she slowly looked up at the one who hit her, her eyes glazing over F/n as well. All of a sudden, the woman jumped up as she grabbed the pole beside her, kicking Vers back on the other side of the train. Many held shocked expressions as they watched the scene unfold. F/n rushed towards the Skrull, moving to attack though the creature dodged out of the way.
Just as the Skrull flipped around, F/n grabbed it by the back of the neck and slammed it's face against a metal pole, causing the metal to bend. Vers was quick to grab the Skrull by the collar of the dress it was wearing, throwing it up against the ceiling of the train before the creature fell onto the floor. Vers felt himself be grabbed by someone from behind, a human man holding him back from attacking the Skrull as F/n continued to do so.
Vers was quick to elbow the man in the stomach, causing him to let go as the Skrull swung around a pole and roughly kick F/n back, the young female falling straight into Vers' arms. Once she straightened up, the Kree heard snarling sounds escaping the Skrull as they all glared at one another. When the Skrull lunged at them, F/n flipped it over her shoulder until she slammed the creature on the floor.
Just then, a couple people grabbed ahold of F/n before she could do anything else, holding her back while Vers sent a punch to the Skrull's face. Before he could even try again, he was pulled back by some people. The Skrull had been quick to get up to it's feet, moving out of the cart and into the next one. Tearing his eyes away from the Skrull's figure, Vers looks down at the floor, gaze landing on purple crystal-like object laying in front of them.
With his strength, Vers shoves the people off of him before turning to the ones holding F/n. He pushes them off of her, grabbing her hand while bending down and grabbing the crystal. F/n watches as she finally notices the object. Some shouts could be heard from the humans, only for them to be ignored as F/n and Vers left the cart, moving on to the next one. The people inside stared at them when they got through the door.
None of the people seemed suspicious enough to be a Skrull, which is how Vers led F/n to the other door at the other end. Just as they reached it, a head popped up and F/n clenched her jaw at the sight of the Skrull. Her eyes watched as the creature changed itself to look like one of the people behind the Kree. That very same man noticed his own face through the window and he slowly stood up from his spot, fear coursing through him.
F/n and Vers quickly followed after the Skrull when it jumped up and onto the top of the train. Vers gave F/n a boost, letting her go up first. However, just as she got up, the Skrull roughly kicked her back, sending her flying a couple feet back. Vers made it to the top just when the Skrull began running in the other direction, moving with the train. The creature grabbed ahold of a part on the top of the train, only to fly back from electricity hitting it.
Vers had been able to reach the creature first, grabbing it's shoulder and spinning it around to face him. Both dodged punches sent to each other before the blonde fell straight onto his stomach when the Skrull grabbed and pulled him down. F/n's eyes widened at the sight of the Skrull kicking Vers off the train, wind blowing through her hair as the blonde grabbed ahold of the side of the train.
"Vers!" F/n shouts.
A piece of the train falls when Vers' hand hits it, the piece landing straight onto a car beneath them. That car happened to have Fury and his partner sitting inside. The Skrull continued running in the same direction it had been running towards as F/n froze for a moment, frantically glancing between the Skrull rushing in the opposite direction and her trusted partner dangling on the side of the train.
Her eyes notice a tunnel ahead, making her eyes widen. She completely forgot about the Skrull as she bent down on her knees, reaching down to grab Vers hand. The blonde was quick to grab her outstretched hand, using his strength to push himself up while she also pulled him up onto the top until he was knelt down beside her. Both Kree were now on their knees, F/n's hands on Vers' arms.
"Why didn't you go after him?" Vers questions, voice loud from all the wind by how fast the train was moving.
F/n shakes her head. "I wasn't gonna leave you behind."
There was a moment where they stared at each other, a small smile twitching on the blonde's lips as he glanced between her eyes and her lips. Remembering where they were, F/n snapped her head in the direction of the Skrull, seeing it's running figure. Vers also seemed to remember as he blasted his powers just when the front of the train was moving under the tunnel, the blast hitting part of the concrete.
F/n roughly punched the top of the train, creating a hole for the two of them to jump through just as the entire train was in the tunnel. Everyone jumped as they jumped through the hole, cowering back in their seats in fear. Eventually, the train came to a stop at the station as the two of them stood right at the doors, waiting for them to open. People watched them step off the train, strange looks on their faces.
The two of them moved in different directions, making sure to stay close as they searched around for the Skrull. As Vers went one way, he caught sight of a man in a similar red dark shirt the Skrull had been wearing when he changed into someone else. Eyes trained right on him, the blonde picked up his pace and roughly grabbed the man's shoulder, spinning him around so he could see him.
The man flinched when he noticed the blonde holding his fist up, ready to punch him before he stopped. It was a different person than who the Skrull had shapeshifted as. The man looked him up and down strangely before he walked off, picking up his pace. Vers glanced around, gaze confused and within the slight crowd, he made eye contact with F/n, seeing she looked just as confused.
They lost the Skrull.
Deciding to look outside, they met halfway as they traveled out of the subway and outside. Sirens blared in the distance, but they paid no mind to that as they moved in one direction. They soon found themselves venturing in an alleyway, no people in sight other than themselves. Remembering the crystal he had grabbed, Vers stops at a wall as he places it in the arm of his suit.
Noticing this, F/n leans closer to him, eyes on the digital piece as they both watched words appear, followed by pictures of familiar faces that they had both seen within the glimpses the Skrulls had made them see. F/n tilted her head when the words 'Pancho's Bar' popped up next to a face that she couldn't help but find familiar.
