CHAPTER SEVEN:

PANCHO'S BAR

THE SUN SHINED down on the civilians on planet C-53. Many were still getting over the shock of the fight they had witnessed between the Skrull and the two Kree, wondering how it had even happened in the first place. The occasional wind blew by, the leaves on the trees moving in the direction it was blowing towards. The buildings stood tall, people going in and out.

After the arm piece on Vers' suit had malfunctioned from the crystal, the two Kree people had gone to an internet cafΓ© to search up Pancho's Bar. Unfortunately, the computer stopped working before they could learn where it was, which is how they found themselves standing outside the cafΓ©, holding on to either side of a large map and holding it up in front of their faces.

The sound of a motorcycle revving up in their direction could be heard, but they didn't pay it any mind. The guy on the motorcycle parked in the free parking spot beside them, considering they had been standing in an empty parking spot to look at the map. As he stopped in the spot, the guy glanced towards them, his eyes lingering on the female of the two.

"Nice scuba suit." The man calls out.

Hearing his voice, F/n and Vers looked at one another for a moment before they both moved the map down a bit to look over at the man. F/n tilted her head when she noticed he was looking at her and her only. While she furrowed her brows, Vers clenched his jaw and he couldn't help but glare at the man. Noticing this, F/n pulls the map to cover her face again.

"Lighten up, honey, huh?" The man adds, his words causing Vers' grip to tighten on the paper. "Got a smile for me?"

F/n continued to ignore him, blank stare looking at the map. When he realized she wasn't going to do what he wanted, the man turned off his motorcycle as he mumbled a small 'freak' to himself, now glaring at the female and the male beside her. Once he was gone and inside a store, Vers peaked over the map again as his gaze lingered on the bike the guy had left.

It didn't take too long for the two to change into some normal clothes, stealing them from some mannequins at a clothing store before they were mounting the motorcycle. Vers held the handle bars while F/n wrapped her arms around his torso, her chest touching his back. The blonde revved the bike up before he rode off and onto the street, driving in the opposite lane.

As Vers drove, F/n let herself glance around before resting her cheek on the blonde's back, arms not too tight around his torso as she sat close to him on the bike. The city was eventually behind them as they found themselves driving in the country side, no buildings being seen anywhere and just sand and plants. The blonde driving was trying to remember the direction the map had shown to head to Pancho's Bar.

It was only about an hour until Vers pulled into a small parking lot right in front of the said bar. F/n was the first to climb off once they pulled in, taking the helmet Vers had insisted on her wearing off her head and putting it on the seat. The blonde's hand was on her lower back as they stepped inside the bar, stopping just a couple feet inside as they both glanced around the familiar place.

Glimpses came through F/n's mind as she imagined the familiar blonde playing the arcade game in the corner while she cheered him on, the two of them sitting with that familiar woman at one of the booths and then the three of them singing with the blonde's arms wrapped around her waist. Vers was the first to move when he noticed pictures of planes hung up on the wall.

F/n seemed to be too busy with the glimpses in her head as she continued to glance around at the bar, frustrated with all the familiar things. She didn't understand why these were coming to her now. At the sound of a small rattling, both of them looked over to see the bartender had stopped near a table as he looked between the two of them.

"What can I get ya?" The bartender asks, eyes glancing between them.

Vers points at the picture he had been staring at. "Where was this photograph taken?"

The bartender shrugs, clearly confused. "An airport."

"Where's Pegasus?" Vers questions, narrowing his eyes.

"That's classified." A voice calls.

All three of them look in the direction of the sound, watching as Agent Fury walks out from the back of the bar. Vers and F/n exchanged a glance at the sight of the man as Fury looks to the bartender, who walks to the back when he clearly noticed the three of them needed to talk. As he walked behind the counter, F/n noticed he now held stitches above his left eye.

"Not unlike the file I started on you two." Fury continues. "But I see you've both changed it up a bit since then. Grunge is a good look for you two."

F/n raises a brow. "Did you have a rough day, Agent Fury?"

"It was cool, you know? Had a space invasion, big car chase. Got to watch an alien autopsy." Fury lists off as he walks to the entrance from behind the counter. "Typical nine to five."

"So you saw one?" F/n concludes in question.

"I was never one to believe in aliens..." Fury admits, shaking his head. "...but I can't unsee that."

Vers winces. "This is gonna get a little awkward, but I got to ask."

"You think I'm one of those green things." Fury realizes, receiving a shrug. "You are looking at one hundred percent red blooded earth man."

"I'm afraid we're gonna need proof." F/n tells him.

"We talking cheek swab or urine sample?" Fury asks.

Vers shakes his head. "No. The DNA would match."

"Want my AOL password?" Fury questions.

"Skrulls can only sim recent memories of their host bodies." F/n states.

Fury chuckles in realization, pointing between them. "You wanna get personal."

That was how the three of them found themselves moving to a table. Fury sat on one side while Vers sat on the other with F/n in the middle area, though she was facing the human they were suspicious of. All three of them held blank expressions.

"Where were you born?" Vers asks.

"Huntsville, Alabama. But technically, I don't remember that part." Fury replies.

F/n tilts her head. "Name of your first pet?"

"Mr. Snoofers."

"Mr. Snoofers?"

"That's what I said. Do I pass?"

"Not yet. First job?"

"Soldier. Straight out of high school. Left the ranks a full bird colonel."

"Then?"

"Spy."

"Where?"

"It was the cold war. We were everywhere. Belfast. Bucharest. Belgrade. Budapest. I like the B's. I can make them rhyme." Fury admits with a smile. "Been riding a desk for the past six years now, trying to figure out where our future enemies are coming from. Never occurred to me they would be coming from above."

F/n feels a smile twitch on her lips. "Name a detail so bizarre a Skrull could never fabricate it."

Fury stays silent for a moment before a scoff escapes past his lips. "If toast is cut diagonally, I can't eat it."

None of them say anything for a moment as he looks at the female, noticing she seemed to be fighting a smile. When he looked at Vers, the blonde brought his hand up to cover the smirk that twitched on his own lips. The realization came to Fury as he looked back to the young woman.

"You didn't need that, did you?" Fury questions.

F/n finally smiles. "No, I didn't. But I enjoyed it."

"Okay. Your guys turn. Prove you're not Skrulls." Fury demands.

Instead of saying anything, Vers lifted his arm and used his powers to blast straight past Fury's head, the blast destroying the karaoke machine. Fury flinched a bit, brows furrowing as he looks to the female in hopes of her doing something normal. However, she blasted past the other side of his head and created a hole in the wall.

Fury furrows his brows. "And how is that supposed to prove to me you two aren't Skrulls?"

"Those were photon blasts." Vers replies as if it were obvious.

"And?" Fury asks, needing more elaboration.

"A Skrull can't do that." F/n states while pointing at the damage they had done.

"So, a full bird colonel turned spy turned S.H.I.E.L.D. agent must have pretty high security clearance." Vers points out. "Where's Pegasus?"

There's a moment where no sound is heard before Fury lets out a sigh, making the Kree smile knowingly, realizing that he was gonna show them where Pegasus was and help them out with possibly stopping the Skrulls.
