"MORNING MRS WILLIAMS!" Mary shouted as she was crossing the street. Mary was the angel of Small Heath, as in such a place it was difficult to see someone with a smile on their face. However, Mary Adler was an exception. With her brunette curls bouncing as she walked and bright dress swaying as she stepped, anyone who saw her had a smile on their faces.

"Mary?" She turned as she heard her name being called by Elizabeth Gray.

"Oh hello Polly, how're you doing?" She asked with a bright smile

"Alright, I was wondering if you could do me a favour?"

Polly and Mary had a close relationship. After the passing of Mary's mother Polly took the liberty of taking care of the young girl, especially when her father would down the bottles of whisky in the kitchen cupboard.

A look of concern quickly overcame her face. "Of course, is everything alright?"

"Yes, of course it is. I know now that you've finished school you have a lot of free time on your hands, don't you?" She asked, curiosity flickering through her eyes.

"Yeah, just popped 'round to Mrs Bravermans bakery but she didn't need any help." Mary replied with discouragment.

Yes, Mary needed a job. However she was especially hoping for one in Mrs Bravermans, for the sole reason it was her mother's job ever since she was Mary's age up until the day of her passing.

"Well I was wondering if you wouldn't mind helping our Finn with his studies, you know he didn't go to school so he's a little stupid. Could do with some help that one."

Mary had never really conversed with Finn as he was usually out with his brothers and she was at school most days.

"We would pay you too, one shilling an hour?" Polly continued.

And with that being said the smile on Mary Adler's face was enough to give Elizabeth Gray the answer she was looking.
