(synopsis)

THE QUIET WAS always something that Arana O'Regan grew to know. The soft machine hum that the ark was constantly making. The stars that filled up space like little diamonds. The quiet was her friend. It greeted her everyday when she came home from her job to find her dad passed out after drowning himself in alcohol. The alcohol that Arana spent her time getting by working for Nygel in all hours of the night. Whenever Nygel called, Arana answered.

When Arana's mother died, life was never the same. Her life used to be filled with loud noises, her dad's laugh, her mom's voice. The days when Arana wouldn't come home to a dad drowning himself in his sorrows with alcohol. Quiet was all Arana knew after the death of her mom.

But when Arana meets a freckled face guard named Bellamy Blake, the volume in her life is turned up to max. The loud noises even louder than before and she liked it. Arana was determined to make sure that the quiet never returned again, even if that meant following Bellamy down to the radioactive earth.
