Sneak peak from Rules and Roses

"This is the contract." He passed me the file and I looked at it.
.
.
.
"I need a few ground rules to be followed." I said, keeping the contract back on table.
.
.
.
"Last and not the least, if anyone of us by chance falls for other, the contract immediately ends there." Love was something I was afraid of. That trust to build could take my age.

"Accepted."

Anurag:

I stared ahead, as we walked down the empty road in cold weather with nothing but each other's company and silence. I glanced at her time to time and she would just smile softly, looking ahead. Our legs never restrained and my mind wished that this road never comes to an end.

Her steps slowed down, and so did mine. "Thank you Anurag." She breath out ones we halted. We faced each other, while I asked, "For?"

She sighed and answered, "You know what I'm talking about." I did. But I wanted hear from her.

"For what? Minion?" I prompted.

"For everything. This dhaba thing, that consolation at your office, uplifting my mood." She counted in and I chuckled.

"You have no idea what you've done without even realizing." Helped me to move on from a person, whom never even met!

"I'm sorry about your book." I softly said, looking at her. A small smile took its place on her lips and she nodded in a no.

"Not your fault, I think it's time for me to change my career." She chuckled, thinking she cracked a joke.

I stepped forward, and she auto tool a step back. "You're an amazing author Minion. You should know that?"

"You're saying that to make me feel better."

I nodded in a no, "You can ask my brother, making someone feel good by fake-praising them is not my thing. I'm saying this because I know how capable you are, of handling your reader's emotions on tips of your finger. Why do you think several readers made video of your previous book, 'Beautifully Broken?'" Her eyes never left mine, and I did not make a move to. "Because even though the couple did not receive the expected ending, people were happy, with the story. Because of the emotions you portrayed." I softly made her understand.

Don't ask me how did I know how the book ended.

"One book in three years Anurag." Her helpless voice came out and I did not like that tone.

"What has happened to you?" I asked, out of disbelief. "You were so different a month ago. That confident Mannat is shattered."

"She's not Anu." She fought back.

"Yes she is!" My voice raised a little. I immediately shut my eyes to take a deep breath and calm myself down. Shouting that this living being in front of me is the last thing I want to do. I spoke, after a pregnant pause, "I'm not going to say those cliché lines where they'll say not to give up and stuff. I've been through it and I know what's happening." I said, remembering that time when I was struggling to run the business. The time when I met her. "Trust the process."

She stared at me, and for the second time since we met I witnessed her eyes shiny. "One day you're going to hate me." She said and I chuckled.

"Then I'd invite you for my funeral before hand." I chuckled, and she did not.

Wind blew around us, the silent atmosphere prominently gave out the movement of gust of subtle air. We stared at each other, aware about the storm in us, and uncertainty of explaining it.

"What are we Anu?" And she asked the most awaited question. I let out a shaky breath and took another stepped towards her.

This time she did not step back, but accepted my presence. "What do you think?"

"F.."

"I dare you to say friends." I warned and she closed her mouth, evident what her answer was going to be. I held her hand and lulled her closer to me. I gazed down at her and she tightened her hold around me hand. "Whatever we are, it's beautiful. Unnamed, but beautiful." I whispered. My hand went to her cheek to caress it, "And we shall not meddle with something that is beautiful." She leaned against my touched and smiled softly.

She further leaned forward, with her eyes shut and rested her head on my chest, near my heart. I placed my chin on her head and wrapped my arms around her gently. I could feel my heartbeat raising steadily. I chose not to control it this time.

We parted ways slowly, when I spoke, "Let me drop you to home. You'll rest and stop thinking about today, yeah?" She nodded, before we made a move towards my car. Next what I knew was she was sitting beside me, Ajeeb daastan song was on the radio and clouds poured their hearts out.

Though the ride was one and half hour long, her house seemed to arrive soon. I halted my car at the entrance, and heard her un-buckling the seat belt. She got out of the car, continued to walk towards her house before stopping abruptly and then turning towards me. She blinked beautifully and waved a bye to me, and I chose to reply with a smile.

The song which was playing on the loop came to its last part, which said,

Yeh manjile hai kaun si
Naa woh samajh sake naa hum

I sighed, before leaning against the headboard and shutting my eyes. It pained to see her chuckling, but not out of happiness. To see her eyes shining, but not with laughter. I immediately took out my phone and dialed someone whom I needed,

"Ridhit?"

I stared ahead at the road, "I need you to get me information about someone."

Nandini:

I bit my lips nervously, glancing myself in the mirror for the nth time. I looked different. And I wasn't scared, rather nervous, about being this expose in front of anyone. He had asked me to be dressed up like veronica. That girl and me are 180 degrees opposite. Thus, as per his demand, I'm up in this gray top off shoulder from one end and paired it up with short denim jeans. My hairs were left as it is, and eyes were khol-ed. My lips were painted in baby pink shade and neck adorned with an oxidized chain.

I inhaled deeply, before looking at the mirror again. Oh god, no I can't do this. I turned back to change myself, but something pulled me back. It's the first time he has asked me anything. It isn't like I'm uncomfortable with him, but a part of me was extremely shy to go in front of him.

"Nandini?" A sudden knock flinched me. My husband called me out, "How much time baba?" It's like an hour since I'm inside this room and he's waiting outside like a patient husband.

"Aa rahi na." I meekly said, biting my lips nervously.

[ I'm coming na ]

"Nandini, come near the door." I followed, taking small steps near him.

"Ji."

"You don't have to do if you aren't comfortable. Aap na bol sakte ho bache." I pouted at his words. I have to get out of my comfort zone. This shyness won't last long in a long run. There will be instances and I need to be easy around him.

[You can anyways say a no baby.]

I inhaled and exhaled deeply, before my hands reached up to unlock the door and open it slowly. I felt him stepping back slowly to make way for me, and yet another second, I was in front of him.

My eyes went to him, whose eyes dint left mine. I saw his mouth falling apart and hands on his side, loosely holding his phone. My throat dried at his closet for the day. Olive green shirt, light brown jacket and denim jeans. Prem from Vivah.

My heart

I let out a shaky breath when I saw him taking a step towards me, and I did not step away. I stood there, clutching my fists tightly. My chest hollowed as he stood parallel to me, bending towards me slowly and leaning towards my ears. I shut my eyes slowly, feeling his breath on my earlobes.

"You look beautiful, Veronica." He breath out and immediately held my waist to prevent me from collapsing. I held his collars slowly.

"You look beautiful too." I spoke, without even realizing. He chuckled and pulled us out of each other's embrace.

"Ready for the day?" I frowned at his words.

"You're Prem, Manik. Haven't you watched vivah?" I said, raising my eyebrows.

He raises his eyebrows at me while I shrug carelessly. "Okay then, Jal piyengi aap?" I choked my own saliva.

[You'll have water?]

"What?"

"Thak gaye hongi, mere dimag mein daudhte daudhte." My mouth fell apart at hid words.

[You must have got tired roaming in my mind all day.]

I squeezed my eyes and nodded my head, before replying. "Abey chal." I rolled my eyes before flipping my hairs and waking towards the door. I could see his widened eyes from the mirror opposite to us. I almost chuckled at the view.

Next moment he was near me, in the car and we were driving, again where, I had no idea. "Aapko takleef ho rahi hai toh mujhe gyat karwana." I bit my smile and shook my head.

[You tell me if you have any problem.]

"Manik, you know Prem wasn't like this in the movie." I said, giggling silently.

"Yes, but he did become like this after meeting his Poonam." He scooted closer to me and pulled me even more closer to his chest. I looked up, where he gazed me slowly. "And you're my Poonam." He pecked my cheeks slowly, while I shut my eyes at the feel of his lips on my skin. I gasped inaudibly and nudged against his skin.

It's so bad that his mere touch brings a sensation which nothing ever did.

"Manik." I whispered, gathering some courage to open my eyes.

I heard him sighing and resting back, still holding me tight. "So where today?"

He looked at me with a smile, "Wherever it is, you'll love it." That confidence.

"Forks is filled with what I love. What exactly you're talking about? Mr. Malhotra?" I asked again, before looking at him. He smiled but said nothing, evidencing that he won't utter a word. I sighed and shook my head.

He spoke after a short pause. "Indian food should be made compulsory everywhere. Like Chinese is." I heard him, before frowning.

"What?"

"Yeah, like Rajma Chawal, dal makhani, Naan and what not." He looked at me and spoke. I looked at him silently, observing whatever he just said. Feeling my gaze, he brought his eyes to mine, before raising his eyebrows.

"You're missing Maa na?" His posture straightened up slightly and he averted his gaze.

He looked here and there, scratching his nape. "No..nahi toh."

I chuckled and nodded head, "Jhooth na bolen."

[Don't lie.]

He scrutinized his gaze at me, before twitching away. I held his chin and made him look at me again, "Haa na Manik?"

[Yes no Manik?]

"Okayyyyyy may be a little." He shut his eyes as if he's accepting his crime. I laughed out at his reaction which made him open his eyes and glare me. "Ha ha. Aap haso."

[Yeah yeah, you laugh.]

I shook my head, biting my lips to control my laugh. "You're behaving as if I've caught you doing a crime."

"It's our honeymoon no." He said slowly, while I smiled, "So?" I asked.

"So..."

I immediately cut him off. "Shut up." He shut is mouth immediately and kept quiet. "Call her."

"She must be sleeping no." I looked at my phone, it was just 10 AM here, which means India must be having 9PM. I unlocked my phone and face timed her before passing him my phone. Not even second ring and he'd voice rang, "Kaise ho bache?"

[How are you baby?]

"Mere se itne sweetly baat na karo aap. Okay?" My jeko husband complained and I muffled my laughter.

[You don't talk to me so sweetly, okay?]

She frowned seeing him on my place. "Manik? Why are you one her phone."

His eyebrows creased and he cribbed "Hadh hai matlab."

[It's the limit.]

We both burst out laughing at his crib. His mood swings were new to me, but adorable.

"Kaise hai aap Maa?" He finally asked the question he was waiting to ask.

[How are you Maa.]

"I'm good bacha. What about both of you?"

I saw him sighing dramatically and nodding, "She irritates me so much Maa." My eyes widened at his complained and hands immediately smacked his shoulders.

I looked at the phone, where Maa was chuckling at our banter. "Maa yeh jhooth bol rahe hai."

[Maa he's lieing]

"I know baby, it must be vice-versa." I bobbed my head, while my husband passed glares to both of us. "You look beautiful Nandini."

Oh shit!

I smiled nervously before looking here and there.

I moved away slowly so that they can talk, and looked out at the trees that raced with us to the location. Even thought it was ten here, the cloud were still shaded and wind still blew as if it rained the previous day. Mumbai's weather is completely opposite of what is here.

Slowly steadily, car came to a halt and my eyes squinted peek outside. Soon enough, they bulged out as sockets.

"Oh my god." I merely whisperer, and just then, the door of my side opened. My husband showed up with a smile. I held his hands and stepped out, nevertheless my gaze remained undisturbed towards the destination.

"Liked it?" I heard his breath, that managed to gain my attention completely.

"Loved it Manik! LOVED IT!" I cried out before throwing my arms around his neck. His laughter echoed in my ears drums, before he wrapped his hands around my waist and picked me up in the air. I tightened my hold and he snuggled deeper into my hair. I breath out in contentment, before I disentangled myself from him.

I'm doomed. The place I've been always witnessing in a screen is in front of me. Because of whom? This man beside me. I am aware that this might sound so shallow, me being excited about a fictional show. But that's the whole point nah. The excitement of witnessing the characters and places live, when you've always seen it in a screen, it's different.. Unless it makes sense to you, it shouldn't be a matter of subject to anyone else. And if my husband understands it, it's more than enough.

"Andar chale priy?" That prem accent. It's bad that it's funny and cute at the same time.

[Let's go in, love?]

I nodded excitedly before clutching his hands in mine and moving inside. The house was empty, but it smelled different. We were provided with a set of glasses, that had to different lenses. One, that could make us look through the time of 'Twilight ellipse' and other one through 'Twilight new moon'. My excitement was on a different level. The living room, the kitchen, that glass door, that yard.

We then climbed the stairs to reach the room.

Edward's room

Strangely there were no other tourist, but only us. The entire house was empty, and our footstep echoed in the essence of our deep breath. I left his hand and walked towards the open window in the room. Smile was never off my face.

I felt him wrapping his hands around me slowly from back and found myself leaning back slowly on him. I shut my eyes on feeling him pressing his cheeks against my hairs.

"Manik." I broke the silence.

"Hmm?" He replied, our face still stuck to the view out.

"You booked the entire house. Dint you." I asked slowly and felt, his gaze still on the view, and smiling slowly against my hair.

"You came to know." He muttered slowly.

I sighed, "It must've costed a fortune Manik."

His hold tightened pm my waist and nose dug deeper, "Your husband is capable enough to buy the entire location bache." I smiled slowly when he placed a chaste kiss on my hairs and loosened the hold to turn me towards him. I looked up at him, who caressed my cheeks slowly. I palmed his one cheek and tip toed slowly, before leaning forward. He, unconsciously bent towards me, and I placed a small kiss on his cheeks. I let out a deep breath and stayed, before standing on my feet to look at his reaction. I grinned witnessing his ears turning pink and a small smile taking its place on his lips.

"You're blushing." I said, grin still not leaving my face. He squinted his eyes at me before Jenkins me towards him from my waist. I gasped and kept my hand on his chest to banter myself.

"You kiss out of a blue, what else do you expect?" I giggled at his remark and nodded in a no.

"Same what you did." I shrugged.

"You know what?" I raised my eyebrows at his question. My breath shallowed as he leaned forward towards my earlobe and whispered ever so softly, "Hai jo irade batatu tumko sharma hi jaogi tum." I would've surely collapsed if not his hold. I shut my eyes when his hands caught hold of mine, and kept it on jis heart, "Dhadkane jo suna du tumko, ghabra hi jaogi tum." I found myself pushing against his voice. I wrapped myself around him and we swayed slowly before whispering back, "Humko aata nahi hai chupana."

Hona hai tujh mein fanah.
