Chapter 13
February 2024
JANE'S POV:
You would be surprised if I told you that the only subject I'm seriously very good at is P.E., I've always been one of the best in sports class because I used to play basketball for the school team, our school has both lacrosse and basketball official teams which they train for important games, national and international, the basketball is played by girls while lacrosse by the boys. I was quite good in the school team and even won some games but when I started seventh grade I decided to quit wanting to be more focused on writing songs and because I knew I had been casted in Percy Jackson and the Olympians.
Coming back, it was 10 a.m on Tuesday already and my next period was P.E to my relief because I could relax a bit for the hard math classes from before. Me and Emma had just dressed up in our blue matching sweats, we've bought it right after the premiere that had taken place in New York, Emma was beyond happy when I gifted hers on her birthday in December.
"Okay, class. How are we today?" our coach Mr. Cooper spoke as we lined up from left to right in the sports hall. I could say that he was my favorite teacher from school, since he was not so strict or found anything meaningless as a huge problem.
"I have news for you all" the teacher continued as the door from the hall wide opened just for the lacrosse team from the Fairview high school to come in accompanied by their coach.
"We're going to share the hall with our guests for this class. They won't bother us and we won't bother them. We have our half while they have theirs" Mr. Cooper explained calmly, while some girls started giggling noticing Walker at the other side of the hall talking with some of his teammates.
I had to admit that he looked pretty good in the lacrosse uniform, it suited him perfectly, also the fact that I was going to see him train made butterflies in my stomach. Moreover, Walker had to notice me and give me a cute grin along with a wink, just for me to chuckle as I rolled my eyes and returned my attention back to our class.
THIRD PERSON POV:
"Who does she think she is?" Amanda scoffed crossing her arms at the sight of how delighted Jane was acting in Walker's presence, it seemed like he was the only one that could bring light into the Riordan girl's heart, maybe it was true...
"Well... they practically play in a show together, so maybe he likes her?" Nora, the blonde girl from the trio, uttered smiling without noticing, she was the type of soft girl, slightly silly who thought the world is a bubble of pink glitter which could never break, so in her shameless opinion Jane and Walker would appear to be a lovely pair.
"Do you still want to join our shopping afternoon today?!" Amanda exclaimed, irritation heavily evident in her tone, the redhead considered herself the one who was always right and would never let anybody else had their own stance. Nora could only shake her head in fear and apologize hoping Amanda would oversee her stupid words for this time.
"So today we will climb up the wall, everyone of you will have attached a rope so you don't have to be worried" the teacher explained the activity the class had to do for that day, Jane bit her lips nervously as she looked at Emma anxiously feeling her palms already wet. Jane was good at P.E class but climbing the wall was not her best mate, her experiences with attached ropes were even worse since her phobia of heights blocked the courage to set herself up for the climbing sessions.
"Nora, stay here and if someone asks we're headed to the bathroom. Tracey, come with me" Amanda ordered before grabbing the brunette by the arm and strolling cautiously towards the coach's private room that was located at the left of the hall.
"What are we looking for, Ama?" the brunette girl asked entering the room after her friend, it had two huge wardrobes full of balls for different sports, a breakfront with three shelfs full of golden or silver trophies won at many school games especially at lacrosse.
"Mr. Cooper had to put it somewhere in here" the redhead mumbled opening the second drawer from the coach's desk, many important documents involving the match that would take place at the end of the weekend were placed all over the table. "Yes" Amanda finally exclaimed taking out a yellow screwdriver from below the many papers existing in the second drawer.
"Ama...? What do you want to do..?" Tracey felt herself to scared to ask more because in some way she kind of figured out the prank, joke or rather stunt her friend was going to pull and she was certainly not fond of it.
"You'll see. Now let's get out of here" Amanda smirked mischievously after hiding the screwdriver in her hidden pocket from the pink sweatsuit. The two girls succeeded in getting out before anyone would dare to question their sudden disappearance, the line for the climbing session had already started so Amanda hastening her pace to catch up with the line.
"Excuse me! Thank you!" the redhead falsely smiled meddling into the quarrel and positioning herself right in front of Jane who was to focused on the boy and girl climbing the wall so calmly and carefully because in a few minutes in will be her turn too.
"Amanda and Jane. Come on girls, your turn" Mr. Cooper happily announced as Jane choked back her fears while glancing quickly at Emma who showed her one thumb up for encouragement. "Shit" Mr Cooper mumbled checking his phone with a bothered expression.
"You girls climb up to the top and back to the bottom, I'll be back in a few minutes, just need to solve this situation" the coach said before running towards the door already with the phone at his ear.
"Good luck, Janet!" Amanda mocked with a slight grin after tightening the rope around her waist just as Jane did. The wall was wide enough for two people to be able to climb on it, the hold were all different colors and attached tightly on the wall but they can be loosen using a screwdriver. By the time Amanda arrived at the top, Jane was not far behind her, the Riordan girl grabbing and stepping cautiously on every climbing hold while trying to not look down. When Amanda reached the middle of her path while climbing back to the bottom, Jane successfully arrived at the top so she could not see what her colleague was doing, Amanda slowly took out the screwdriver and began loosing a few climbing holds that she was sure Jane would step on when coming down.
Jane began her way down, prudently stepping on holds close to her position, and grabbing the ones that would help her stay attached to the wall, but the next step she had taken was a terrible one, the hold slightly moving as it was touched by Jane's foot, in her confusion she looked down to see why she felt her foot slipping and it was another mistake because the view until down gave her fear, she stepped on another hold aswell too loosed so it made her foot slip again.
"Jane!" Emma shouted noticing her best friend in trouble, she knew Jane better than anyone was able to and now she was in serious danger.
"Ama? What did you do?" Nora asked quietly, the redhead already done the climbing and sitting with her two friends at the right of their part of the hall watching the scene from afar, Amanda only smirked her expression being satisfied than ever.
"Em! Em, I can't—" Jane speak with trying to find a hold to put her feet on but she couldn't reach any near her and when she grabbed a hold with her right hand, aswell too loosed, Jane began to freak out.
"Dude?! What's happening there?" a boy from the lacrosse team asked stopping his training to watch the scene aswell, a crowd already formed around the wall. That caught Walker's attention, the blonde noticing the girl from the wall being Jane it gave him serious worries.
"Jane..." he mumbled letting the lacrosse stick fall from his hand as he began strolling fastly towards the climbing wall.
"Em! I'm going to fall!" Jane cried holding now only with one hand to the wall, she felt both ashamed and afraid of what was happening to her, her palms were wet with sweat and in the next second it slipped as Jane started falling down.
"JANE!" Walker shouted from his lungs as the crowd stepped aside letting him running towards the wall, it took only a minute if he weren't there, only one more minute and she would be seriously injured. Jane had her eyes closed and breath hitched as she did not dare to open them thinking she may have been passed out, but she was not.
"Jane... look at me..." Walker whispered, holding her in his arms, his heartbeat was the fastest ever due to the scary scenario from his mind but he arrived right at time.
"What— what?" the girl mumbled, slowly opening her eyes and being met with a pair of soft blue eyes and sweet genuine smile.
"Walker?" she asked confused, her arms wrapped around his neck as she blinked looking forward at the wall.
"You scared the crap out of me..." Walker small smiled, his eyes never leaving Jane's, he had never been so worried in all his life like he had been in that moment.
"I was scared too" Jane chuckled slightly, she had no idea how it happened, how the holds were suddenly loosed because when she climb up everything was totally fine.
She was very thankful to Walker for saving her, the horrible sensation of fear vanishing the moment she had opened her eyes and saw his face, strange thing she thought to be the feeling that blossomed inside her when she was in his arms, and when she noticed him glancing at her lips Jane wished to melt right on that floor like ice cream, it was this close for her to feel his lips.
"Out of the way everyone!" Mr Cooper shouted as Jane quickly pulled away from his arms, heavily embarrassed and red all over her face to her ears.
"Miss Riordan, are you alright?" Mr Cooper asked worried while checking if Jane had any injures on her forehead or head, he thought of himself the guilty one because he left the hall for a few minutes.
"I'm fine, professor. Walker saved me" Jane smiled thankfully at the boy next to her, she could swear that Walker's cheeks formed a cute shade of pinky.
"Good job, Scobell" the man said with a slight nod, tapping him on the shoulder.
"Thanks, coach" Walker nodded relieved that nobody got hurt and that Jane was safe and with no bruises or wounds. He smiled one more time at Jane before running back to his training session with the team.
Until then, Jane believed she had a tiny crush on Walker, just like girls of her age would usually have, because they had known each other for over a year, became good friends and were working together in a tv show, but now, it was clear than the bright blue sky. Jane was heavily head over heels for him, she could not explain the sensation of safety, calmness and joy roaming in her heart when she was in his arms, Walker never carried or held her like that but Jane liked it quite well, now all that would go on in her mind was the fact that she had almost kissed him... almost...
