Chapter Twenty-Four: Fighting Beside You
"If all one would do was watch,
I wouldn't be that person.
If all one could do was wait,
I couldn't be that person.
I want to protect, I want to fight
for the man I love.
With all my strength.
With all my might.
I'll fight."
Created- by me
Rey's POV
The doors that had once separated both Ben and I from the world were now hanging by their hinges.
Well...what was left of the door hinges from the men bursting into the room.
They seemed to be more experienced as well as heavily armored than the men Ben and I had fought before, back at the castle.
"This is it. Are you ready?"
"My grandfather's?" I spoke, quite aware of the obvious answer.
"Without a doubt. So stay close."
I drew my sword as Ben's was already drawn.
We fought to protect each other, as we fought with all we had despite our circumstances.
I was very inexperienced and Ben was currently injured, but still...we fought.
And just as I had taken my aim off the man in front of me, he quickly grabbed my cloak.
His grab was so fierce that I had slammed into a wall with the air knocked out of my lungs.
And I couldn't breath...but I didn't panic either.
I was not going to let my enemy best me in this match we had between the two of us.
So, I tried my best to breath normally again as I swiped my foot underneath him, causing him to stumbled on the ground and instantly hit his head on the floor.
I then pinned him down with my foot and knocked him out with the handle of my sword.
Just then two other men grabbed a hold of me, fighting with a hard grip to keep me from escaping from their grasp.
I looked around to see Ben fighting two other men as well.
"Ben!" I yelled for him as I couldn't escape.
And as soon as we caught eye contact a cloth was being held to my face.
I began to feel out of balance and lightheaded.
But still I fought and kicked myself around for them to let me go.
I saw a dark blur force itself toward me to fall down.
I could only guess it was Ben.
And I yelled a loud muffle as they stayed covering my mouth with the cloth.
I desperately tried to go to him but I became too weak to even think let alone have enough strength to escape these people's hold on me.
And in a few minutes time all was dark.
I felt as if I had gotten swallowed whole with my conscience stolen away.
All I could see and feel was a deep and dark nothingness.
When I found consciousness again, I instantly jerked awake looking around for Ben.
I tried to move to feel my hands chained to a cellar wall.
Cold iron was felt around my wrists as well as feet.
My clothes were covered in dirt and flaked with snow.
I presumed I had been dragged here by the look of how filthy and dirty my clothes were.
But more importantly...I needed to find Ben.
To see that he was ok.
That he was safe and unharmed by these monstrous people.
Just as I was about to call Ben's name I noticed a dark haired man that was all bloody, beaten, and bruised.
He was so badly injured I could barley make out his face...
But once I saw those big brown doe eyes...so hazed they were...and yet when he laid his eyes on me they began to become soft and warm despite his predicament.
"Rey..." Was all he said as he could hardly get out a whisper.
"We'll get out of here. I promise Ben, I'll get us out of here." I spoke through my fear.
I knew how anxious I was...but for Ben...
For Ben, I'd stay my ground for.
Always.
And just then a man of black armor appeared with heavy mental footsteps on the cold stone floor.
"How is it? To be at the bottom old friend? So tied up in such dog-like state. So pityful...I almost feel bad for you. And come to find out that you've had such a Fair Maiden at your side."
The man directed his speech to Ben, who he knew could barely speak from how beaten he was.
"Nothing to say Kylo?...What? Did they beat you up that badly? What a shame...and here I thought I'd meet the man who was untouchable. Unscathed by another man's sword...or arrow for that matter."
The man in dark armor then took his attention toward me.
"And you must be his precious Fair Maiden. His newly wedded 'wife' right? Well...I hope he doesn't mind I tell you a little bit about the Kylo I know..well, knew. We're no longer friends due to his poor choices in his early years of service to our previous king. Of course, your grandfather soon took rule after offering up some good intel. Mind if I share."
If I had a choice.
"I don't care what you have to say. And whatever it is, it won't change how I feel about him." I spoke to him as he removed his helmet.
"I'm Sir Lionel Vicrul. An ex-companion of your husband's here. Let's just say he killed my family on orders given to him by our previous and oh-so-terrible ruler. He sure was such a loyal dog, I'll give him that. But to go down to such level was beyond my understanding of who I use to think my friend was...but after your grandfather took control and persuaded a few minds, all that cruelty ended with only the need that 'he wanted his own granddaughter back' for years now. And here you are."
"Why go to such lengths? And what does any of this have to do with Ben?" I finally asked quite aggressively as I looked straight into the man's piercing blue eyes.
"He's a traitor don't you see. And your grandfather wants nothing but good for you. Even if it is an arranged marriage, you'd still be better off with the man chosen for you other than this penny-less fool."
He referred to Ben as he harshly hit the cell bars with his armored fist.
"Do you hear me Kylo? You're a fool! A fool to have listened to those orders! And a fool to have trusted someone like him, he wasn't even fit to be king..."
The man named Lionel paused for a moment.
"...I really do hate you."
"I'm sorry." Was all Ben could say as he tried to look up to Lionel with great difficulty.
But Lionel seemed more enraged as he swiftly grabbed Ben's throat through the bars of the cell both Ben and I were enclosed in.
"Ben!" I shouted, afraid the dark armored man might kill him.
"It's too late for that. And there is no amount of 'sorries' that could ever heal the wounds you've caused!"
Lionel, with great disgust, threw Ben on the floor as he let go of his deathly hold on him.
"It's a pity the two of you won't be with each other for much longer. Unchain her and bring her to our Leader." He placed his helmet back on.
And before I knew it, I was being unchained and forcefully taken elsewhere as Ben was left in the cell.
And I couldn't do anything about it...I felt so powerless.
What was I to do?
Even so, I had to come up with a plan.
A plan to escape this place with Ben.
