"It wasn't me. It was my evil twin"

The team gets to the police station and find out that they let the other twin, Jesse Gentry, go. "We didn't have a choice" The detective states and Maya scoffs as the detective defends herself saying the whole firm was there within minutes to protect the suspect so they had no other choice but to let him go.

Garcia calls and explains the backstory of the twins. The twins were separated at 3, and a few years ago the twin got his adoption records unsealed and found out about the existence of his brother but there's no evidence that they're in contact.

The next day, the team gathers in the conference room at the station and talks about the information they have Jesse and Wallace separately. "Since we can't surveil Jesse, we dug deeper into his life" Maya states as she sits down, looking at the board her and JJ assembled.

"His adoption was through a local parish. His adoptive family was stable" JJ adds, shrugging her shoulders as she feels there's no way Jesse was involved in these murders.

"He also had good grades through college and dreams of law school. Hence the job at the firm" Derek states, holding a cup of coffee in his hand securely.

The team talks more and realizes that maybe they should watch Carla, the twin's mother, if they want to find her son. Garcia calls and tells the team she found records that Carla used to send the killer out of town on a train when he got into trouble.

JJ, Maya and Derek get ready to go to the train station because if they find the mother, they'll find Wallace.

Over at the train station, Maya looks down at a magazine when Derek walks over and stands next to her as if he's looking at one himself. "We have eyes on Carla Hines. She's approaching now" One of the decoys says through the earpiece.

Maya sighs and secretly adjusts her earpiece behind her ear as she looks over at Carla before flipping through the magazine slowly.

They watch Carla wander around as she looks around for someone curiously and no one moves until they see some evidence of Wallace. "Somethings up. She doesn't see Wallace" Maya states, letting everyone know before she closes her magazine in her hand and narrows her eyes at Carla from afar.

Carla starts to leave when she doesn't see the killer anywhere around and JJ, Maya and Derek crowd around her before she can go anywhere.

"We're with the FBI, we need to talk" Maya states as she shows Carla Hines her badge. Carla sadly agrees and follows the agents back to the station.

Back at the station, while Hotch talks with Carla, Maya goes to the bathroom and when she was finished, she began washing her hands thoroughly before JJ walked out one of the stalls. It was awkward and the only sound was heels clicking on the hard tile and water running from the faucet.

"I had to pretend I didn't know you and if that meant being rude to you then so be it" JJ defends as she places soap in her hands and runs her hands in the warm water from the faucet.

"Besides, the whole team didn't like you when you got here. What's the difference with me?" JJ asks and Maya sighs as she dries her hands.

"The difference was I could've used a friend. Not an enemy" Maya states, tossing the damp paper towel in the trash before walking past JJ and exiting the bathroom.

Maya listens in on the questioning going on with Carla and crosses her arms over her chest tiredly. "Someone's upset" Alex notices as she looks over at Maya who shakes her head, disagreeing.

"Not upset, tired" Maya corrects as Alex knits her eyebrows in confusion. "We're all tired but we don't mop around about it, and you certainly don't. Something is bothering but I won't push" Alex states and Maya sighs as she continues to listen in on the questioning.

Hotch finally gets around to asking Carla about the father of the kids but Carla refuses to tell and that's when Maya knew she wasn't going to budge. She wasn't going to tell a soul about her son even though she knew he was crazy and has committed these crimes.

Now, the team is letting her go because they all know how she feels about Wallace. After all, that is the twin she decided to keep.

The team finds out about another murder and goes to the new crime scene. They talk about how it's an obvious copy saying that the rape and shot through the heart match the M.O. Except that the woman was raped post-mortem, and shot in the bed, which couldn't be further from the M.O.

Still, the scene is different enough that they're sure Jesse is the new killer and not Wallace.

A few hours later, another body was found, and they were just finishing cleaning up, but they know the latest victim was raped and murdered. They talk a little about how twin killing a woman who had a twin brother was probably a way of getting out his anger at his own brother.

In other news, Carla slipped her tail, fleeing out the back of a restaurant where someone was waiting for her in a car. Turns out, the last person she contacted was Jesse's lawyer...

"We're with the FBI. Everyone stays away from your computers" Hotch voices as him, Maya, JJ and a few police officers storm Anderson & Associates, the place where Jesse's lawyer works.

"Hey, you. You're going to write down the wireless pass code for us" JJ demands and the person behind the desk looks around hesitantly. "That wasn't a question by the way" Maya states as she shows her badge to the person behind the desk.

He nods his head frantically and grabs his pen and paper. "And where's Mark Anderson?" Hotch asks and the person informs him where he is and Hotch makes his way there, Maya following after him. "Agents, I can explain" Mark states as he buttons the bottom of his suit jacket.

"Okay, please, explain why you helped Carla Hines escape" Maya states as she crosses her arms over her chest, standing next to Hotch as they both look to Anderson with a deadly look in their eyes.

"Sorry, sweet cheeks, I can't comment on that because of attorney client privilege" Mark states and Maya raises her eyebrows suspiciously. "I'm sorry, what did you call me?" Maya asks, taking a step around Mark's desk.

"Carla is your client and that means her, and Jesse know each other and probably have for a while" Maya declares as she looks Mark up and down disgustingly.

"It's complicated, honey" Mark states and Maya looks a little taken back at the pet names he continues to give her. "It's actually very simple. We can now prove that Jesse is a killer" Hotch states, "And that makes you an accessory, honey" Maya mocks before she pulls out her handcuffs but from her back pocket and dangles them in front of Mark with a mischievous smile on her face.

"You can threaten me all you want, but they're entitled to representation, and you know that" Mark states and Maya scoffs as she stands behind Mark, eagerly waiting for the moment to handcuff him.

"We also know you, and all those cameras that you love so much, they're all downstairs waiting for your pep talk" Hotch states as Mark looks to Maya who stands behind him then back at Hotch who doesn't change the serious look in his eyes.

"You're bluffing-" Mark stammers before Maya grabs his arm and roughly pulls it behind his back and raises it up until it's at an uncomfortable position. "Ahh!" Mark cries out before Maya slams his body onto his office and quickly places handcuffs around his wrist, "I'm sorry, honey, did that hurt?" Maya asks jokingly before she raises Mark to stand up straight while he groans in pain.

Back at the station, Garcia is able to find the name of the twins' father, one Bill Robbins. Hotch then goes into the interrogation room with the lawyer who explains that Carla wanted to put the family back together by setting up a trust for the twins, so Jesse would forgive her for giving him away.

He then explains that he found out how messed-up the family was when he met Bill, the father, and other trustee and Hotch wonders what he means by that.

Reid and Derek then head deep into a flophouse to find Bill, who's a schizophrenic deep in the grips of a manic episode. Reid and Derek agree that their kids' psychosis definitely has a genetic component.

The team meets up for a conversation about the situation and realize that Carla has been manipulating Jesse half of his life. Hotch's theory? Carla wants Jesse to murder Wallace, so it can be just the two of them, and she'll finally have a worthwhile son. They assume she's been planning it for some time, and that the train station meeting was supposed to be a talk with Jesse, not an attempt to help Wallace escape.

Then things all went to hell because Jesse also loves murder...

Meanwhile, Carla shows up at a church with the boys, and says that's it's great to finally see Jesse in person and during this family reunion, Carla tries to set up her son Wallace to get chopped in the back, but instead Jesse double-crosses her, and puts the knife to her throat.

Which irritates Wallace, who now points a gun at him.

With anger, one twin shoots the other, and when the cops arrive, they announce that it was Jesse who shot Wallace. Maya places her gun in her holster and handcuffs Jesse's wrist in front of him before she starts to walk him out.

Hotch doesn't think Wallace was the actually one who was killed, calling it an 'inexact science', then suggests that they use a trick to make Wallace behave like himself to reveal his true nature.

They ask the father, Bill Robbins, which son is alive, and the father says that he taught his son, Wallace, to twitch his fingers when nervous, which the killer immediately starts doing.

Wallace was the real killer and has been all along, but his mother was the ringleader and did nothing to help her son because she lost, everything...

Case closed.

On the flight home, Hotch announces that he's not going to be the team's new boss which makes everyone happy but also worried with who they will bring in for the open spot. Maya takes a seat next to JJ and sighs defeatedly before scratching the back of her neck anxiously.

"Crazy case, right?" JJ asks and Maya nods her head awkwardly. "Crazy" Maya repeats softly as she looks over at JJ who smiles slightly, "Since you can't say the words, I will. I'm sorry" JJ states and Maya feels a weight has been lifted off her shoulders.

"Yeah, I just- A lot has been on my mind. You aren't the first person I've snapped at" Maya states as she sits back in the seat comfortably. "Yeah, I seen the way you manhandled Mark Anderson" JJ jokes before her, and Maya burst out into laughter after recalling the moment.

"He called me honey and sweet cakes. He's lucky I didn't break his arm" Maya defends before her and JJ's laughter die down.

"So, who do you think the new section chief will be?" JJ asks and Maya shrugs her shoulder indecisively. "Whoever it is, better be good" Maya concludes before she lays her head back and closes her eyes for the rest of the flight home.
