Brother & I
Thought of this while waiting for the new movie to come out, thought of this. Also, I don't know Albert's age so I'm presuming it is three-four years older than Kiyoko. Also our first cameo/appearance of new OC Ichiga Nakamura!

The first time Kiyoko met Kate was when she was eight, through the months her father had told her that he was seeing a friend.
Finally, however, it was in the middle of July, and Sydney's rainy weather of winter had brought a drenched Louis and Kate home to which Pieter was looking after a young Kiyoko, whom both were sitting on the couch marathoning through the young blonde's favourite show H20 just add water.
Eating a bowl of honey soy chips and wrapped in the warmth of the blankets and pillows, Pieter had reached out his hand for another mouth full of chips as his eyes were still glued to the screen.
"Which one is that again?" Pieter asked.
"Cleo, she likes Lewis," Kiyoko said her eyes too glued to the screen as night's rain poured so much she could hear it from the lounge room.
"Right, does Rikki like Zack or something?" Pieter asked fascinated at the show.
"I think so, but Zack mainly likes Rikki but the other girl from earlier likes him," Kiyoko whispered.
"Uh-huh," Pieter hummed as the loud munch from the chips was overpowered by the sound coming from the tv.
"Pieter!" A loud knock from the door came as Pieter got up.
"I'll get that, you stay here and watch okay?" he ruffled her hair as she nodded, as the dutch swimmer jogged his way to the door. Opening the door it revealed a drenched Louis with his buttoned-up shirt and black pants as he held a demolished umbrella, and mirroring the impact of the rain Kate in a demolished navy dress and her hair wet after an hour of getting ready.
"How was the date?" Pieter smirked as Louis only glared at him.
"Not now Peiter," Louis grumbled as he let Kate walk in first followed by himself.
"To think the best spot of reservation was outside but this weather didn't compromise. I'm so sorry Kate," Louis sighed as Kate only gave a small warm smile.
"It's fine Louis. And besides, we had fun eating our food in the car. We watched a movie as well in the car on your phone. That's luxury right there," Kate joked.
"Is that all you did-,"
"Pieter, really?" Louis smacked his head as he whined.
"Your so stingy!"
"You're so annoying,"
"After you called me to watch Kiyoko, and now you interrupt me whilst watching with Kiyoko. Louis, I should have just let Kate in," Pieter smirked as he earned a glare from the man.
"How's Kiyoko?"
"She's fine, we had Macdonalds. She's in the lounge room watching," he said.
"Great, Kate, do you want to stay in the guest room tonight. It's pouring out there," Louis offered.
"Ah, if that's alright and with Kiyoko of course," Kate responded.
"Oh right, you might as well meet her. She'll love you," he smiled holding her hand as Pieter felt out of place.
"Not as much as she loves me," Pieter chimed in as Kate just laughed as Louis just sighed in disbelief at his friend.
"Koko!" Louis called out as he threw the hand towel on top of Pieter who only scoffed as he walked down the hallway to the living room. Seeing his daughter almost half-devoured by the number of pillows and blankets as she was illuminated by the screen Louis only smiled as he kissed her forehead making her lookup.
"Hi, Papa," she smiled as she returned her attention to the screen.
"Hey, Koko. Listen, do you mind if I have a friend sleepover, in the guest room. It's pouring outside and it's going to be hard to drive her back to her house."
"Sure, she can have a sleepover," Koko said as Louis only chuckled at the term she used.
"Speaking of which, do you want to meet her?" Louis asked nervously as Kiyoko only shrugged her shoulders in response. Louis walked back as he when he returned Kate felt a wave of nervousness inside her.
"Hey," she said standing beside the couch as Kiyoko only pivoted her head to the woman.
"Hi, are you my dad's friend?" she inquired.
"That, I am," Kate smiled, "Can I sit?" she requested as Kiyoko nodded as Kate dug through the blankets to find the bottom of the couch as she sat feeling a chip-making her laugh.
"Uncle Pieter probably did that, he was sitting there before," Kiyoko said.
"I can tell," Kate chortled as Kiyoko looked at her.
Now that she was closer Kiyoko took notice of beautiful she looked with a slender figure and violet eyes with lighter blonde hair than Kiyoko's.
"Did you guys go swimming? Is that why you're so wet?" Kiyoko prompted as Kate blinked but chuckled.
"Ah, no. I and your father went dancing in the rain," Kate joked as Kiyoko laughed.
"Really?!" Kiyoko said in amazement, "That's cool, though I don't think my father is a good dancer-,"
"Hey!" Louis said from the kitchen as Pieter only laughed at the innocent comment
"Oh, believe me, I know," Kate expressed as Kiyoko smirked.
"You look like a mermaid. It looks like you went for a swim," Kiyoko said as Kate confused only looked to the television at the current scene of mermaids swimming as she laughed.
"Do I now? Sadly I'm not... though my son is more of one than me," Kate said as Kiyoko raised a brow.
"Does he have a tail?"
"No, not from what I know of no. But when he's on the water he's like one. My son's a swimmer," she smiled at the thought of Albert.
"Really?! Is he as good as Uncle Pieter?" Kiyoko exclaimed.
"No, well not now at least. But there's something about my son when he swims. What about you? Do you swim?"
"I take swimming lessons. I wanted to be a world swimmer like Uncle Pieter but I gave up-,"
"Hey!" Uncle Pieter yelled.
"It's too much hard work. I saw all these videos on youtube, it looks really hard."
"Well it is," Kate chuckled
"But it's those who work really hard and mindset most likely pays off in some way."
---
In the next few months, it was brought to Kiyoko that her father and Kate were dating only to shrugged it off.
"Papa! I want to watch!" Kiyoko exclaimed as tried to reach for the remote in her father's hand held up high as the other arm was trying to push off Kiyoko.
"Koko, you've been watching for an entire hour! Let me watch the news!"
"The news is boring!"
"It's exposure and to reality!"
"I don't know what that means!" Kiyoko frowned as Kate walked by as she just took the remote from her hand as she hummed.
"Yay! Kate! Turn it back to my little pony!"
"Why would she want to watch coloured horses singing?!"
"Ponies! They're ponies and unicorns and pegasuses and alicorns!"
"Actually I want to watch my son," Kate sat in the middle of both of them as she flipped to the swimming channel as the junior FINA swimming championship finals appeared.
"Wait, your son is on tv?! He's famous!" Kiyoko said starstruck.
"Uh, in a way yes. Not celebrity famous but he's known a bit back in Sweden," Kate chuckled as she turned to the screen, "Of this is his race!"
The 100m freestyle under 13 yrs boy finals. We've been awaiting this heat to see the rising swimming supernova of Sweden Albert Volandel. Wow, take a look at him! Standing at five foot six, here's the mighty Albert doing his country proud. Looks calm.
Here comes Australia, one of his semi's by a fraction of a second. Here comes Harris le'Het. Standing at five foot six thought he was reported to be an inch taller than Sweden's supernova. Let's see if that inch makes a difference-
Ooh, power player Thoman Lanson of USA. Though the shortest out of the group tonight he a mile ahead of his last heat in the semis.
We got now walking through Mario Vickstockiclous of Greece coming in. Strong on his strokes but not a major swimmer nor an underdog tonight.
Lucky last to walk in Joseph Han from Canada. Walking in with headphones-, haven't seen that tech suit from his last race.
Here they are warming up
"Your son looks like you," Kiyoko commented as she turned to Kate.
"Yes," Kate smiled.
"He has your eyes and hair."
There's the whistle, Vickstockiclous in seven, le'Het in lane six, Volandel in five, Lanson in four, Han in third. Here we go.
Beep!
Kiyoko's eyes widened at the sight of Albert from the moment he dived into the water. The speed, the velocity the atmosphere. Kiyoko had never in her life been so attached to a race in her life, feeling the adrenaline, the rush, as the blonde girl was on the edge of her seat eyes opened.
Comraded by the deafening cheers in the background only one true victor emerged as the Swedish young swimmer had slammed his hand onto the wall as he was followed by Canada and America.
Kate and Louis glanced at how Kiyoko was on the edge of the seat and her mouth widened as if she had been hit by a gust of wind. The couple exchanged glances as Kate smiled as the heat ended in such a short amount of time.
"Koko, if you keep going closer to the screen you're eyes will turn squared," Louis chuckled as Kiyoko shook her head as she looked to Kate.
"Albert is amazing!" Kiyoko exclaimed.
"He is isn't he," the female expressed as she looked back to the screen as the award ceremony started playing.
"When can I meet him?!" Kiyoko asked eagerly.
"Soon, someday," Kate ruffled her hair.
---
Three months passed until Kiyoko had finally met Albert, and it was only the least to say that Kiyoko had along awaited the grueling months of anticipation to meet the young swimmer on the rise.
Kate had said to her that he would be visiting Sydney for the an overseas swim meet in by the Sydney swimming committee. She believed it would be good if her son could meet someone who finally would treat her right, and Albert had accepted that.
"Where is he?!" Kiyoko groaned as she leaned her head on the railing as they waited at the terminal with her parents as Kate had held 'welcome' balloons in her hand.
"He still has to go through security Koko," her father had ruffled her hair as she pouted.
"You excited?" Kate smiled at Koko as she held her in support as she stood at the railing.
"Yeah!" the youngest blonde's excitement was evident as she turned to see a few people walking out, "Papa! Look people are coming out!" she pointed as Kate seemed to jolt and to scan everyone who come out, looking for a blonde kid and caretaker and coach Ralph.
"Albert!" Kate exclaimed as she made her way through the scattered assemble as she hugged her son beginning to cry, "I missed you so much," she mumbled as she kissed him on the forehead and got up as she said greeted his coach.
"I want you too meet to very important people to me," Kate said as Albert couldn't help but feel a small blossom of vehemence as she lead them to Kiyoko and Louis. Albert's violet eyes landed on a older male figure smiling warmthfully and as he looked down a small petite figure of a young girl looking no older than ten as he assumed this was his daughter.
"Uh, hello sir," he quickly shook his hand as Louis only smiled in return as well as shaking his hand.
"It's no problem, please just call me Louis-,"
"Thank you for making my mum happy!" He quickly rambled as it caught them off by surprise as Louis finally gave him a gentle expression.
"Your mum has made me very happy too, Albert," he smiled as he looked down to his daughter.
"This is my daughter Kiyoko," he introduced the girl in a linen pastel purple dress as she hid behind him shy.
"She couldn't stop talking about how excited she was to meet you Al," Kate added as she made eye contacted with Kiyoko and nodded.
With a sudden outburst as Albert felt a jolt of impact as he looked down to see Kiyoko had hugged him tightly as, finally he hugged her back. The Swedish swimmer smiled. For the first time he felt a small spark of a family he hadn't felt since before his mother made the hard decision to start a new life in Sydney, leaving Albert to pursue a swimming career.
"I'm Albert it's nice to meet you," he introduced himself in English with his heavy accent still lacing his words as Kiyoko looked up awestruck yet nervous.
"I'm Koko," she barely got out as she sucked in air.
It was now or never for her.
"YOU WERE AMAZING! SWIMMING! I WANT TO BE LIKE YOU SOMEDAY!" she squeaked as she went back to hiding her face in his stomach as his eyes widened and looked up to Ralph who only blinked and Kate and Louis who only stood there with blank expressions.
"I'm sorry, she's a bit shy so sometimes she rambles all at once," Louis explained sheepishly as Albert only chuckled looking down as Ralph greeted Louis.
"So should we get going?" Louis said as he took a suitcase.
"I believe so, Al?" Ralph said as Albert then remembered something.
"Kiyoko, I forgot to give you something," Albert unzipped his bag as he took out a plushie toy an IKEA shark toy* as Kiyoko's eyes widened.
*Do not question how a toy that size can fit in his bag, this is anime folks, magic happens.
"I'm sorry if it's not a mermaid, I was in a rush and it was last minute," he informed as Kiyoko's eyes widened at the sight of it as she started to squish the life out of it.
Great more toys Louis thought thinking about her battalion of more back home, half of division from Pieter who was now back in the Netherlands.
"It's alright, I can get those," Albert said to Louis.
"It's alright Albert, and it seems you've got your hands tied already," he gestured to Kiyoko as Albert smiled, as his mother carried his bag and the toy shark.
"Hey," Albert said crouching down to Kiyoko, "Do you want a piggy back?" he asked as Kiyoko's eyes widened and nodded rapidly as she hopped on.
---
"Hey Albert," Louis smiled as he sat on the seats watching Kiyoko trying to swim with her floaties in her small swim class of five and the teacher. Wrapped in the warmth of the towel the young swimmer had just finished his long hours of extra practice with his coach Ralph as Kiyoko had enrolled in swimming lessons in the same centre Kiyoko took her swimming lessons.
Sitting next to Louis, Albert spotted the young female, waiting at the back as the teacher came to ask her for her turn. Kiyoko only shook her head nervously as the teacher conceded and moved on to the next kid next to her as the teacher removed off the arm floaties.
"What's wrong?" Albert asked looking to Louis.
"She's been scared to swim without her floaties when she can't touch the floor of the pool," Louis began as Albert saw the built platform for the kids, "I've seen her without floaties and she swims pretty good when she's in the kid pool, but I'm afraid she needs to have a little faith or courage in herself."
"Does she know how to do any strokes yet?" Albert questioned.
"From what I know she's know a bit in backstroke and breastroke, and she knows how to do the basics of freestyle already," Louis said as he watched the lesson end and as the swim teacher was giving a talk to her students.
Every other student moved up except Kiyoko as they received a little colour token as they all started to brag to their parents. Kiyoko only looked down as Louis only sighed in sympathy as he got the towel and made his way to his daughter.
"Hey there Koko," Louis crouched down and put the towel over her head and wrapped it in a nun-like way.
"I didn't move up," she sniffled as she saw Albert who only stood behind her father.
"Cause you need to take off your floaties sometime," he said worryingly giving her a kiss on her forehead.
"I'm scared though," she mumbled as she went to hug Albert.
"Is this pool still in public use?" he asked Louis as he nodded in return.
"It should be, lessons are now over," he looked at the clock and the staff removing the equipment on the otherside of the pool.
"Is it alright if Kiyoko and I swim a bit," Albert requested, his eyes determined as Louis only chuckled softly.
"Alright," he said as he took Albert's towel as Albert crouched down to Kiyoko's level.
"Hey, do you want to swim with me?" Albert asked as Kiyoko only pulled up her towel not giving a response.
"The teacher took the floaties though," she replied quietly.
"I promise to not let you go if your not ready," he said as the female paused then gave a final nod as she took of the towel and watched Albert slide into the pool giving a slight splash.
"Kiyoko jump in, I'll catch you," he smiled holding up his arms as she stood at the edge of the pool.
"I'm scared to jump! What if I don't go back up?" she cried.
"Then fly," Albert thought of quickly, "Fly to me, like a valkyrie."
Kiyoko only looked at the translucent liquid glimmering before her as she then looked to Albert. Summoning all the courage she had, Kiyoko jumped closing her eyes as she felt her waist touch the water, then soon hands. Opening her eyes, she saw the boy only smile as her mouth formed into a huge smile.
"Did I fly?!"
"Yes, yes you did," Albert laughed as he took her to the edge of the pool where a fitted block for her to stand on as she leaned onto the ropes.
"Do you know how to float?" he asked as she nodded, "Can you float for me, on your stomach?"
"But, I'm scared," Kiyoko mumbled.
"Trust me, look under and it's not as scary as you think. I'll put you right next to the rope so you can grab onto it," he said.
Kiyoko only starred her ocean eyes into his mysterious ones as she nodded. Holding Kiyoko by the hand Kiyoko then closed her tight as she floated on her stomach holding her breath. That's when she felt something on her face.
Looking down she gazed at Albert lying on the floor without any goggles as he blew a few ring bubbles making her giggle under the water as they started to have an underwater conversation. The girl couldn't help but feel a gush of wind circling around her as something magical to what she could only described happened.
As Kiyoko finally realised that she needed to breathe and turned up onto the surface as she gasped for air.
Rising to surface as well Albert only swam to her, hugging the rope close as he laughed, "You can hold your breath really long," he commented.
"I didn't even know I could go that long!" she exclaimed.
"How about we see you swim now, I'll be right next to you," he said as Kiyoko silently nodded as he took her to the wall.
"Why don't you take off your cap? It will feel much more better," he suggested.
"You can do that?!"
"Yeah," Albert laughed in amusement, "You just have to wear them for competitions."
"I've been lied too," Kiyoko glared at her father who only looked the other way as she took off her cap and put it ontop of the wall.
"Ready?" he asked as she smiled.
"Ready!"
---
"I don't want you to leave!" Kiyoko cried as tugged onto Albert making him feel guilty.
"Koko," Louis said carefully crouching down, "Albert has to leave, he has to go and train back for swimming," he wiped her tears as she sniffled.
"C-can't he stay? Can't we make him by brother or something?!" She yelled as everyone was caught off guard making Louis and Kate blush.
"Koko, sweety," Kate came in, "Even if Louis and I got married and Albert became your brother, he would still be in Sweden."
"That's not fair still!"
"Koko, what about Albert sweety? Remember when he saw him on tv for the first time?" Louis said as Kiyoko huffed as she turned to Albert.
"I-, I'LL WORK HARD REALLY TOO! I'LL BECOME A REALLY GOOD SWIMMER LIKE YOU!" she exclaimed making Ralph drop his doughnut.
Albert only smirked, "I'll be waiting for you, little V."
---
In the lounge room it had been almost six year since Albert left Sydney and had first met Kiyoko. Great Britian's star repersenitive for the junior European swim meet Nakamura Ichiga was sprawled down on the couch drained from the exhaustion of the training she undergone an hour ago.
"Someone was devestatingly slow on the last lap," Ursula Böll from Germany grinned holding a protein shake in hand as other twin Erich Böll flopped onto the couch.
"I missed my turn shut up," Ichiga muttered returning to her game.
"For someone whose representing Great Britian, you weren't so great cause I overtook you twice on the last lap," Ursula snickered as she felt a pillow thrown at her face as her twin hysterically laughed.
"I thought you said you were dead!"
"Oh, I can resurrect myself when you-,"
"Hey guys," Albert walked in the room with his friend Callan.
"Ugh, why are you here?!" they* groaned as Albert blinked trying to think what he did wrong.
*Erich's pronouns are they (mainly)/he btw for anyone whose confused
"My brother of mine is just a dumpkoff cause you're ahead of everyone by a mile. We all know someone is officially jet set for the olympic team," Ursula smirked as Ichiga looked up.
"Wait seriously? Congrats mate," Ichiga commented returning to her game.
"Thanks," Albert smiled.
"We all knew it was bound to happen though, did you see that old swimming legend's reaction to Albert? It's going viral," Erich added as they turned on the tv.
"Hey! I was going to watch!" Ursula yelled.
"Shush! I've been waiting to see this! Anastasia Tehnil is racing the other two queens of the pool," they informed as everyone exchanged confused looks.
"Who?" Ichiga broke the silence as Erich gasped and dramatically fainted.
"WHO DON'T KNOW WHO THEY ARE?!" they yelled.
"Geez, dummpkoff, turn it down a notch will ya?" Erich's twin scolded.
"But you seriously don't know who they are?!" Erich asked as they all shook their head.
"Anatasia Tehnil the torpedo of the north-,"
"Pff, that's a bit cringey of a title," Ursula sniggered.
"Please, you're just jealous she wouldn't race you and she's younger than you and won that race by a mile," Erich grinned as Ursula scoffed.
"But these two other Australian kids, I don't remember they're names but I remember one was called the Morgan Missile and the Butterfly Bullet. The Morgan one, was off by a fraction from Tehnil's one hundred metre breastroke," they added.
"No way," Callan said in disbelief.
"Not surprised though, Australia has always been a powerbreeder in swimmers," Urusla added.
"Yeah, and the bullet girl was third. But listen to this, in the butterfly person's butterfly event for one hundred in the semis was quicker than the record for Sydney junior swimming championships."
"You're saying this person finally dethroned Pieter Hauer's record when he was that age?!" Ichiga logged off her game.
"Exactly!" Erich pointed out as he turned on the television and switched to the event.
"Dammit! I missed the freestyle heat! Who won that?!" Erich when nuts as the boys backstroke semis were about to end.
"It had to be Tehnil," Ichiga stated as they all went to the couch.
Next up the female's 100m butterfly finals.
"OMG! They're in this event!" they made a squealing sound noise as everyone looked at the swimmer not expecting the sound to come out of his mouth.
"What the heck?" Ichiga deadpanned.
Anastasia Tehnil, Russia, as the room of five watched the female swimmer walk in with the Russian flag projected behind her as two other people walked in from Japan and Canada.
Ashley Morgan, Australia.
"Oh yeah, that's her name Ashely! The missile girl," Erich pointed at the screen.
"She looks solid, and tall," Callan commented.
Kiyoko Akari, Australia! The moment she walked out Ichiga and Albert's eyes widened.
"V-!"
"Her?!" Both said in unison as they looked at each other, "How do you know her?!"
"She's the girl in my IM race last year that fell before the whistle started!" Ichiga said as she remembered it caused a lot of commotion, "What about you?"
"She's my sister," Albert revealed as Ursula coughed on her drink.
"What? You have a sister since when?!"
"Five years ago, well four actually we became brother and sister," he explained.
"Guess swimming runs in the family," Erich mumbled, "Who do you think will win?"
"Tehnil, obviously," Callan answered, "She's untouchable. We've all seen what she can do."
"Yeah," the whole room agreed except Albert.
On your marks the Tv presented Tehnil in lane four, Morgan in five and Akari in four. As the the signal beeped everyone in the room was taken back. They all saw how fast Kiyoko reacted, as if she knew. Just as the whistle blew, Kiyoko was a fraction from entering the cold liquid.
"Did you-,"
"Did she even-,"
"Oh my god," Ichiga said captivated by her swimming as the swimmers entered they're streamlines. Kiyoko was flawless, but Tehnil was catching up.
But fate had said otherwise...
The room had felt the energy radiating the strength of Kiyoko swimming the stroke, though Tehnil was less than a half body off they could all see the steering difference.
Tehnil was swimming, a swimming machine. But Akari, Kiyoko was flying, as if she levitating. And it payed off as within the last metre Kiyoko had touched the wall first with seconds to spare from Tehnil as Morgan came in third.
As Kiyoko came in contact with her place and time the camera's had managed to capture her small dance in the water as she hugged her Russian friend and Ashely. Getting out a reporter had caught up to her and asked:
"Miss Akari. That was absolutely splendid! How did you do it?!"
Kiyoko looking a bit shy only laughed to see her friend Ashley dancing in the background. "Um, I took a lot of hard work, but I think it's my passion and love. Butterfly will always be my favourite stroke along with free, but um, yeah doing butterfly can't be done, for me, without having a reason to love about it."
"And Akari, why do you like butterfly so much?" the reporter asked as Kiyoko took some thought into it and smiled.
"Because, it feels like I'm flying."
