"Where's Garcia?" Maya asks as she enters the round table office and finds Hotch about to give the details of the case instead of Penelope. "I don't know. I was at her house this morning, but she ran in a hurry" Derek says and Maya knits her eyebrows in confusion and looks over to Derek. "You we're over her house?" Maya asks and Derek nods his head. "Yeah... I took a shower" Derek adds and Maya raises one of her eyebrows before Hotch begins talking.

"Danny Savino, the floor manager at the sapphire lady casino in atlantic city was found dead in his office this morning" Hotch says as he puts the crime scene photos onto the screen. "Blunt force trauma to the head. An empty wallet and money clip left next to the body" Rossi states before Maya turns her head towards the open door and sees Garcia walking in, buttoning one of her shirt quickly.

"Mug shot. This guys got a record" Derek observes as Garcia stops in the door way and looks to him with her eyes widened but quickly moves along and takes a seat. "Savino was a member of the Agnoli Crime Family" Rossi adds as Maya slightly taps her pen on the table while eyeing Garcia who is still afraid to look Derek in the eyes.

Derek waves to Garcia but still Garcia doesn't give a reaction. "What do you think, Regan?" Rossi asks as Maya narrow her eyes at Morgan and Garcia and looks between with confusion, not listening to anyone.

"Regan?" Rossi calls out again as he nudges her shoulder, grabbing her attention. "Uh," Maya trails off as she clears her throat and starts to frantically look through the crime scene photos.

"Uh, uh. Robbery gone bad" Maya says before letting out a stressful sigh. "Wait, if this is an robbery why were we called?" Maya asks, remembering what she just said.

"8 one-dollar bills surrounding an 8 card. That's highly ritualistic" Reid advises. "And because Sabina has ties to organized crime, agents in New Jersey are worried about things escalating" Hotch answers.

"It doesn't take much to start a mob war" Maya declares as she goes back to that dark place in her past that she doesn't talk about but quickly shakes the thoughts out of her mind, wanting to forget about them.

"No question. Godfather 2, hands down" Emily declares and Maya scoffs. "Godfather 2 was not that good" Maya states as she continues to look through the case files. "I agree. Gotta be Scarface" Derek adds and Maya smiles, shaking her head. "For me, the untouchables. Spence?" JJ asks, wondering Reid's favorite movie.

"Hm, probably Le Cercle Rouge" Reid answers and Maya furrows her eyebrows in confusion and looks to Derek who shakes his head. "Don't even ask" Derek urges and Maya puts her hands up in surrender, not prying.

"Garcia, did we get the crime scene surveillance video yet?" Hotch asks Garcia who's on video call with the team. "No, sir, because there wasn't any" Garcia informs making Maya furrow her eyebrows in shock.

"That can't be right" Maya mumbles. "Yeah, that's not possible. Avery inch of the casino is surveilled every minute of every day" Reid declares but Garcia unfortunately informs the footage was tampered with.

______

At the station, Hotch, Derek and Maya just finished interviewing to mob bosses until there was no more information they could give. Maya walks them to the door and opens it and before one of them could walk out they stop and look at Maya. Maya locks eyes with the older male and watches as his eyes sparkle as if he knew her and that was the last thing Maya needed.

"Can I help you?" Maya asks and she notices the man choking over his words.

"No, I, Uhh" The man stammers and Maya sighs, "I think it's best you go... sir" Maya whispers as she narrows her eyes at the man, giving him time to exit the room which he does. Soon after, Agent Goslin, another agent working on the case, and Emily and Reid enter the room.

"Any luck with our mob bosses?" Agent Goslin asks. "Well, I think we bought some time" Derek answers before everyone takes a seat to hear what Emily and Reid gathered from the crime scene.

The victim had no cameras in his office because he liked to lend money to degenerate gamblers and likely one of them killed him. "So, we're looking for a gambler... in Atlantic city" Maya realizes before stressfully sighing and leaning back in her chair. "That shouldn't be hard at all" Emily jokes.

"You alright?" Derek asks as he hands Maya a pair of surgical gloves before they get closer to the crime scene. Turns out, they didn't have as much time as they thought and the killer struck again. "I'm fine, but-" Maya stops herself, not wanting to reveal to much.

"You know you can tell me anything, right? You can trust me" Derek states before Maya lets out a sigh, approaching the crime scene in front of her.

"This mob boss stuff just brings back memories that- that I wanted to keep hidden away" Maya answers, not wanting to meet Derek's eyes since she feels ashamed. "What kind of memories?" Derek asks as both him and Maya bend down, looking at the dead girl in front of them. "Not very good ones" Maya says as she finally finds the courage to meet his eyes. He was looking at her the whole time and she would've known that if she was as confident as him.

Maya nervously swallows a large lump down her throat before looking away from Derek and staring at the crime below her. It's a crazy one. "You see that?" Derek asks as he points to a freshly lit cigarette on the ground. "Where's a lighter or... a match?" Maya asks as she looks around the area but finds nothing.

"What're you guys looking for?" JJ asks. "A match or lighter. The victim has a freshly lit cigarette" Derek answers as both him and Maya stand to their feet. "There's nothing in her purse either" JJ says as she sets the purse back on the ground, where it was.

"Our unsub must've lit it for her" Rossi declares. "It means she wasn't afraid of him" JJ says right before Garcia gives her a call. "Patti Rioli, aka Francesca. Hometown, Rice Lake, Wisconsin. Up until 3 years ago, she worked with a high end escort service in manhattan and charged 5,000 a night and up" Garcia informs and Maya widens her eyes at how fast Garcia can work.

"She's trolling gaming tables in Atlantic City. That 5 grand a night didn't work out like she planned" Maya declares. "This is going to turn into a circus real fast" Rossi state as he looks back seeing multiple reporters.

The team then gives the profile to assembled detectives. They're looking for an unsub who is killing those who appear to prey upon or take advantage of gamblers like loan sharks and call girls. Since the unsub is obviously a gambler, the killings may have triggered by recent gambling losses. The team also declares that the unsub is physically fit since he was able to overpower Danny Savino, who is clearly a tough guy and judging by how much violence Patti Riolo was killed with but it's doubtful this guy has a criminal record... at all.

As the team tries to figure out why the killer went from killing a low-rent thug to a high-priced call girl. They intuit he must have won big between the two events.

_____

The next day, the team sits in the office, still trying to come up with any leads but come up empty. "What's going with you and Garcia?" Maya asks as she flips through the cases files. "What do you mean?" Derek asks before Maya looks to him like it's obvious.

"She hasn't called you like- at all with any dirty talk" Maya states and Derek sits up in his chair, starting to realize that Mayas right.

"A chaser was shot to death last night at a gas station in town. And get this- $8.00 and an 8 card left on his body" Agent Goslin states as she walks into the office, informing the team on the recent events. On the way to the gas station, the team gets word that there's been another killing but this one is different from the others. There's remorse shown.

The team tries to figure out how to get into the poker game in order to spot the killer, and finally Rossi agrees to put up the money so that Reid, who's banned from Nevada casinos because he both has the ability to count cards and is super-stupid about disguising that fact, can play in the tournament. The plan is for Reid to play and look for someone who fits their profile.

Maya snaps pictures with Emily from inside the van that is parked across from the casino. The pictures immediately register to the computer and Maya starts to put the faces together with someone who matches the profile but none of them do, it's like a dead end with every picture that's taken. "None of these guys fit the profile" Maya says as she types away on the computer, continuing to try and match the face with the profile while Hotch and Derek sit behind her and Emily.

"The last victim, Eddie Langdon, was wearing a watch that was much too big for his wrist" Hotch declares. "I vote stolen" Maya says before groaning after not finding another match. "Or it was a gift from the unsub" Hotch says and Maya raises her head, letting Emily take over.

"That would fit, given the care and remorse for the victim" Maya says as she turns in her chair.

"Oh, the link is set. As soon as Reid triggers the alarm, we can move in" Emily states before Maya's phone starts to ring. "Oh, look who it is" Maya says as she answers the phone.

"Hello, Garcia" Maya greets, giving Derek the side eye. "Hello, beautiful. I got something" Garcia says before she starts her rant.

"Eddie Langdon. He didn't lots of odd jobs and was never married. He lived at transient-type hotels in and around Atlantic city. Even started his own plumbing supply business that went bankrupt and was jail for 6 months in 2005 for forgery" Garcia informs on speaker phone.

"Hey, Garcia-" Derek starts off before Garcia completely hangs up the phone.

"Hm, still think you did nothing wrong?" Maya asks as she sets her phone down. "All I did was take a shower at her house" Derek defends before Maya scoffs and turns in her seat.

While playing poker Reid notices that a certain guy has an 8-ball keychain, so he moves closer. In the van, Maya and Emily continue to look for men that fit the profile but still come up empty. Reid starts provoking the man with the 8-ball keychain by taunting him and reaching for the good luck charm.

Reid is later grabbed by the security guards, but his incredibly unprofessional behavior has tipped-off the man with the keychain, who makes a run for it through the service entrance.

In the van, Reid's alarm starts beeping which means it's time for the team to go in. The exit the van and make a run of the casino. "Plaid shirt, baseball hat" Reid informs as he points to the guy running away.

"Go with Morgan around back!" Hotch orders as Emily gives the profile to Derek over the mic as Maya runs to him and they start rushing towards the back to catch the unsub but we're unsuccessful.

______

Having failed, the team needed to rethink the case again. Starting with victimology. Garcia then finds evidence of who the friend's best buddy was, and going through Curtis Banks background they figure that he might be the kind of guy whose gambling obsession has driven him to murder. She then finds and address and sends it to Derek and Maya.

Derek and Maya arrive at Curtis Banks home but find nothing. Someone lives there but as of now, no one is home. At the same time, Rossi is at the station and comes up with a conclusion that the closeness of people to Dean is directly equivalent to the luck that he imagines he gains by killing them.

A much better explanation would be 'why did he kill his friend in addition to the high roller just minutes apart -it must be because while he needed the high roller's money, he didn't believe that he'd get any luck from the kill. And why not? Probably because they had no relationship.

Hotch and Rossi guess that Dean will go after his wife next, since she's the only person closer than his best friend. This means they've got to race to where she is in order to save her while Derek and Maya stay at Curtis Banks home incase he comes back.

"Why do we have to stay here? Hotch said that they think he's going to his wife. We should go
too" Maya declares as she looks over to Derek. "We're not always right. He could throw us off track and come back home instead, try to leave" Derek declares and Maya rolls her eyes, deep down knowing he's right.

"Find out why Garcia isn't talking to you?" Maya asks as she looks out the window of the SUV. "No, but I will" Derek sighs. "I mean maybe you two had a fun night" Maya suggests as she shrugs her shoulders. "And what do you mean by fun?" Derek asks as he turns his head in Maya's direction, looking to her with confusion.

"You said you took a shower at her place which means you stayed the night" Maya says, continuing looking out the window. "You think me and- You think I-" Derek stammers making Maya look over at Derek. "Garcia is a very attractive women, nothing to be ashamed of" Maya says as she holds her hands up in surrender. "No, I didn't do anything with Garcia. I just picked her up from the bar because she had a little to much to drink. I slept on the couch in her apartment and took a shower in the morning" Derek explains and Maya sighs, "Oh..".

"We're you jealous?" Derek asks making Maya burst out into laughter. "Please, I'm not even the slightest bit interested in you" Maya declares as she locks eyes with Derek. "You'll love me someday" Derek says as his finds his way onto Maya's, sending goosebumps up her arms and down her spine. "Love is a strong word, Agent Morgan" Maya says softly. "It has a strong meaning" Derek replies...

Case closed.
