"Come on, Meatlug!" Fishlegs laughs as he, the Twins, and Snotlout race. Gothi gasps as they fly past her, her Terrible Terrors squawking and flying around in fear.
They gather around her as she softly coos at them, scooping one up and petting it just as Snotlout whizzes by, startling them once more into flying away.
She huffs, stomping her foot in annoyance as she glares at the boy's retreating form.
...
"Hey there, Stoick, (F/N)!" A man greets as both men walk into the workshop.
"Hey, how are you? Beautiful day," Stoick says with a nod, (F/N) chuckles, a smirk growing on his face when he spots Snotlout's father.
"Spitelout, great race." He teases, jumping in surprise when he almost runs into a woman.
"Sorry, Mrs. Ack.
She smiles and nods, walking away as Stoick approaches Gobber. "Any sign of them?"
"Ah!" Gobber waves his arm, his face covered by a welding mask. "They've probably flown off the edge of the world by now." He playfully says as he finishes his piece, walking over to a light blue Zippleback.
"Are you sure you want that kid running the village?" He questions as the Zippleback opens one of its mouths, revealing a missing tooth as Gobber sets the metal one in place.
"You can still delay your retirement."
"He's ready. You'll see." Stoick replies as Gobber hammers the tooth in lightly.
(F/N) nods, his grin never faltering. "With
(Y/N) at his side, they'll be unstoppable."
Toothless' roar catches their attention, making Stoick widely grin when he sees him land with (Y/N) at his side.
"There they are!" Stoick laughs, (F/N) jogging towards his daughter and tackling her in a hug.
"The prides of Berk!"
"That's us.." (Y/N) mumbles, patting her dad on the back before the two detach. (F/N) smiles at his daughter, but it wipes away when he notices her clutching her hand.
He reaches down, tugging it to eye level and narrowing his eyes at the sight of her prosthetic, the metal was loose against her knuckles, the thumb hanging haphazardly against her palm, as if she couldn't move it.
(Y/N) shakes her head, tugging her arm out of the man's grip and turning her head. "I'll tell you later.." she mumbles, ignoring her fathers confused look and following after Hiccup, the teens make their way towards the Chief.
Astrid lands a little ways off, rushing over to the two as the other join them.
"Look who finally decided to show up for work," Gobber scoffs, raising his mask and pretending to swing at the two. "Yay."
"Sorry! Got held up," Hiccup apologizes, nervously laughing and tugging on (Y/N)'s fingers as they walk towards Stoick.
"Hey, uh, Dad? Could I have a word?" Hiccup calls, jumping as Stoick grips his shoulders with a grin.
"Something you're itching to tell me?"
He walks behind the couple, moving in between them and wrapping an arm around their shoulders.
"Not quite the itch you're thinking of, but yes." Hiccup replies as Stoick releases the two, grabbing their aprons and tossing it to them.
"Good man!" Stoick laughs, walking towards the number cards.
"Now, lesson one. A Chief's first duty is to his people. So... forty-One!"
(Y/N) sighs, looking to Hiccup and setting her apron down as he tosses his away.
"Can we just talk in private for-!"
"Forty—!"
"That's me! That's me!" A man yells in excitement as the others groan. "I'm next!" He pushes through the crowd as another glares at him, "Hey, I was ahead of you!"
"If we could just talk.."
Hiccup sighs, rubbing his temple and relaxing slightly as (Y/N) grabs his hand, gently rubbing her thumb against it.
"Excuse me, I have been here all day," the man pants lightly as he approaches the window.
"Okay, okay. I want one of those high seaters with lots of spikes... and a big storage compartment!"
He waves his arms for emphasis as Stoick smiles and nods.
"Absolutely. You got it, sir!" Stoick turns with a grin and starts walking away. "Dad, this is actually a little more important than building saddles," Hiccup calls as he pursues his Dad with (Y/N).
"Ah! Lesson two. No task is too small when it comes to serving your people," Stoick waves his finger before glancing back. "Stoick.." (Y/N) mumbles, watching as he nearly trips on Grump.
"Excuse us, Grump," Stoick laughs while apologizing, petting his nose as he snores softly.
"Dad, can we just talk-!"
"Grump!" Gobber yells in annoyance, startling the large Hotburple dragon. "You let the forge die down again!" Grump groans, turning as he was still lying down and blasting a ball of fire.
(Y/N) and Hiccup jump in surprise from the blast, the girl lightly pushing Hiccup behind her, he blushes a bit, still surprised whenever she protected him in the most subtle of ways.
The height difference was a bonus, over the years you would have thought that Hiccup would have grown at least a head taller than the girl, but it was quite the opposite.
(Y/N) had always been the taller one, it was only by a few feet but nonetheless she found it amusing when she teased him about it.
They both look to eachother with annoyance, sighing as they follow after the Chief.
Gobber groans as the area around the forge lights up in flames, flipping a lever to pour water on the fire.
"That's it, Grump! You're going up for adoption."
Stoick grabs materials for the saddle as
Hiccup and (Y/N) join him. "There you go, have away," Stoick scoots the box towards them as Hiccup sighs.
"Dad."
(Y/N) glances up the shelf, grabbing some tools from above as Hiccup ducks down and grabs materials.
"Seriously, we really need to tell you about this new land we came across," Hiccup says in a urgent voice, grabbing the box and following Stoick as (Y/N) rushes after.
"Another one?" Gobber questions in interest, switching his hands.
"Any new dragon's?" Fishlegs asks in excitement, appearing from nowhere it seemed.
"Didn't really have time to find out," (Y/N) replies, carrying a piece of hide for Stoick. He grabs it from her with a cheery smile, tossing it on the dragon back reference.
"The folks there weren't particularly friendly,"
Hiccup mumbles in a bitter tone, rolling his eyes as he sets the box down.
"Oh, really?" Gobber questions in mock surprise. "Your Night Fury and Woolly Howl didn't bring them cheering to the rooftops?"
"No, this was different," Hiccup shakes his head, waving his hand. "Not the standard run-for-the-hills-hoo-ha I've come to enjoy."
"These guys were trappers..dragon trappers." (Y/N) finishes, shaking her head.
"You should have seen their fort," Astrid pipes in.
"All blown apart and stuck in giant spikes of ice. It was weird!"
(Y/N) nods immediately, pausing from brushing as Hiccup holds his hand out. He takes the brush and busies himself, aggressively brushing the hide.
"I've never seen anything like it." Hiccup scoffs, "And worst of all they thought we did it! They didn't hesitate to nearly rip (Y/N)'s prosthetics out!"
This makes almost everyone go quiet, looking to eachother with wide eyes before turning to the girl with raised brows.
(Y/N) shakes her head as she makes her way towards a table, placing her hand on top of it and fiddling with her fake digits.
She sighs deeply, keeping her head down to avoid everyone's stares, she hated the sympathetic looks.
She hated how everyone made her feel like a newborn just learning to walk, always shadowing her or keeping an eye on her.
She wasn't a child!
What's worse was no one even batted an eye when Hiccup lost his leg, his leg for crying out loud! But when she loses only two fingers suddenly the whole village labeled her as the "fragile girl.
Hiccup looks to her with an apologetic look, not realizing what he had said before it was to late. (Y/N) avoids his eyes, her tongue poking into her cheek as she screws her prosthetics back into place.
"You know, you guys are gonna get yourselves in serious trouble one of these days," Gobber speaks up, bringing the tense atmosphere to a low as he grabs a hand-brush, attaching it to his hand.
"Not everyone appreciates this way of life." He says as he brushes his long mustache and eyebrows. "Aye, Gobber's right, you two." Stoick grunts, removing the hide. "Best we keep to our own."
The Chief makes his way around, Hiccup shaking his head with narrowed as he approaches. (Y/N) grunts as her fingers click into place, looking to Astrid and smiling slightly.
The Hofferson reaches up and pats her friend in the shoulder, squeezing it gently before they follow after the father-son duo.
"Besides, you'll have more important uses for your time," Stoick chuckles as he switches the lever to cut the hide, rubbing his hands together.
"Once we make the big announcement!" He finishes in a sing-song. Hiccup flips the switch off with a firm stare at his Dad. "They are building a Dragon Army."
Vikings nearby pause what they're doing, looking over at Hiccup and the others with concern etched on their faces.
"The guy they're working for is," (Y/N) nods, groaning as she snaps. "What's his name? Something.."
"Uh..drago...bloody fist, or something,"
Hiccup says, making her nod in thought.
Stoick's face falls, color draining from it as he looks over at Gobber, his eyes narrowed and brow furrowed in confusion.
"I'll bloody his fist with my face if he tries to take my dragon!" Tuffnut suddenly appears.
"Or mine!" Ruffnut agrees with an angry look. I
"Ugh. You're such a moron," Tuffnut sighs, shaking his head at his sister. "A beautiful moron," Fishlegs purrs as she recoils in disgust.
"Yeah," Snotlout agrees, making her groan and shake her head. (Y/N) yelps as Stoick suddenly grabs her shoulders, lightly shaking her as Hiccup looks between the two in confusion.
"Bludvist? Drago Bludvist?"
"Wait...you know him?" Hiccup questions, taking (Y/N)'s hand and looking at her before looking at Stoick.
He seems to stare off into space for a moment before rushing away, (F/N) yelling as the Chief grabs his shoulder and drags him along.
...
"Ground all dragons!" (F/N) bellows as he races down the stairs, Stoick by his side.
"What? Why?" Hiccup quickly calls as he follows, his hand still in (Y/N)'s as he pulls her along. Gobber and Astrid quickly follow, her face holding confusion and his holding fear.
"Seal the gates!" Stoick ignores, shouting orders.
"Lower the storm doors!"
"Dad, what's going on?" (Y/N) questions, frantically looking around as the Vikings work.
"Come on, you heard the man! Lock it down!"
Gobber yells.
Dragons swiftly fly in from outside as the gates were lowered, the Vikings rushing to seal the island.
"No dragon or Viking sets foot off this island until I give the word!"
(D/N) chitters in concern, following after Toothless as they follow their friends with Stormfly in tow.
"Wait, because some guy you knew is stirring up trouble in some far away land?"
Hiccup halts, (Y/N) running into his back and rubbing her head as Stoick towers over them with an intense look on his face. (F/N) runs to his side, gripping his daughter shoulders with a firm stare.
"Because Drago Bludvist is a madman without conscience or mercy," he growls, making Hiccup look down in thought.
"And if he's built a dragon army...gods help us all." Stoick finishes, turning around and taking long strides as he walks across the room.
(F/N) nods to the teens, turning away and continuing to yell orders.
"Get them into their pens! Quickly!"
"There has to be something we can do,"
(Y/N) tries, making Stoick shake his head with a heavy sigh.
"Let's ride back out there," Hiccup agrees, expanding on her idea. "We'll follow those trappers to Drago... and talk some sense into him!"
"No! We fortify the island," Stoick disagrees, firmly pointing outside.
"But it's our duty to keep the peace!"
"Peace is over, Hiccup!" Stoick shouts, looking between him and (Y/N). "I must prepare you for war."
"War?" (Y/N) sputters in disbelief, turning to (D/N) as his ears perk.
"Dad, if Drago is coming for our dragons we can't wait around for him to get here," Hiccup replies in a shakey voice. "Let's go find him and change his mind."
"We have to try," (Y/N) nods, looking up at Stoick with pleading eyes as he grumbles and shakes his head.
"No, some minds won't be changed, you two.
Berk is what we need to worry about," Stoick takes in a deep breath, staring down Hiccup.
"A Chief protects his own."
Stoick walks away, revealing Toothless behind him. He rumbles at Hiccup, (D/N) looking at Stoick before whining softly at (Y/N).
The teens look to their dragons with furrowed brows, a sense of urgency consuming them.
Nobody was about to take their dragons, not if they had anything to say about it.
"Let's go.." (Y/N) whispers, making Hiccup nod and peck her cheek as they start walking towards their friends.
"Guys, don't!"
"We have to," (Y/N) replies, shaking her head before quickly hugging Astrid as Hiccup climbs on Toothless.
She rushes over and swiftly jumps onto (D/N)'s back, making him roar and follow
Toothless as they take off.
Stoick and (F/N) gasp at the sound, both swiftly turning around and going wide eyed at the sight of their kids fleeing.
"Stop, you two!" Stoick shouts in a rage, watching as the two dragons swoop under the shutting door.
People shout down below as Toothless nearly slams into a now-shut wall, (D/N) roaring as he flies out of an opened gap.
"Hiccup!" (Y/N) shouts at the boy as he narrows his eyes and follows after.
"Come on!" He urges Toothless, just barely managing to fly through. "No!" Both Stoick and (F/N) shout, Gobber flinching as another dragon flies above.
Stormfly races through a small gap, turning to squeeze through the side of the closing door and quickly following after the two.
Stoick sighs heavily, (F/N) shaking his head before the two look towards the door with a scowl.
What have they done..
