2.7 - tokens

3:05 PM

"Sky, I swear, if you try to tell me that you've never - "

"Pac-Man!" Skylar squealed, interrupting Luke. She let go of his hand and threw his sweatshirt back at him, already hurrying towards the game in the corner.

"Never played video games, I'll kill you." Like finished, awkwardly looking around the room as Skylar ran away from him.

They were all this dingy little arcade that was in the downtown area of wherever they were, and Luke had seen it when they were driving to the park earlier. Luke hadn't originally had a plan for this little "adventure" but luckily they walked by the arcade at the right time and Luke decided that they should go inside. Mostly to get out of the rain, but also because Luke wanted to find a video game that Skylar had never heard of and kick her ass.

"Luke, come on!" Skylar bounced up and down, waving Luke over to her. He couldn't help but feel butterflies - or rather, moths - in his stomach at the sight of Skylar like this, looking so happy. She was practically glowing with excitement, like she had never seen anything like this before.

"I'm coming, I'm coming." Luke smiled at her, slowly making his way over to where Skylar was standing. Luke had just realized how hard it was to move around with all of Skylar's stuff on his back plus the few things that he had with him, he couldn't just run across the room like he normally would have been able to.

"You made it!" Skylar said sarcastically, rolling her eyes as Luke finally appeared next to her, dropping her backpack onto the floor and wrapping an arm around her waist.

"I made it," Luke smirked at her, looking down. Skylar was so tiny compared to Luke, he liked it. Actually, he loved it. "Now what?"

"Have you played Pac-Man? Oh, of course you have. That's stupid, why would I even ask that? Who hasn't played Pac-Man?" Skylar rambled on, letting out a nervous chuckle as Luke watched her.

She was so adorable, Luke honestly just wanted to take Skylar and a big blanket and wrap themselves up in it and stay there for hours and hours on end. He just wanted to cuddle up with her and have her bury her face in his chest like she alway did, like she was trying to hide from something. He could live with that, never even moving again, as long as he was with Skylar.

"I'm surprised that you've even played this game, you never do anything!" Luke laughed. He reached up again and took Skylar's hair tie out of her hair, which she had sneakily grabbed out of her backpack while Luke was walking in front of her.

"That's so untrue." Skylar giggled, shoving Luke away from her. She seem to ignore the fact that Luke had just taken her hair out of the ponytail again, he wondered if she had even noticed.

Luke leaned down and left a short kiss on Skylar's forehead before turning back to the game, which was waiting for tokens to be put into it. He untangled himself from Skylar and reached into his pocket, pulling out his wallet and taking out a fifty dollar bill, which was the smallest one he had.

"Go get some tokens," He said, handing the money to Skylar, "I'll wait here."

"Oh, I get it, I have to do all the dirty work." Skylar scoffed, flipping her hair over her shoulder as she turned away from Luke.

"You know it." He leaned forward and gently slapped her ass, making her yelp.

"Luke!" She yelled, turning around and glaring at Luke, crossing her arms over her chest.

"Shh, baby, you don't need to scream my name until later tonight." Luke shushed her. They were literally the only people in the arcade, and Luke felt just a little uncomfortable with the fact that the old man - named Bob, Luke asked him earlier - at the front of the building could probably hear every word they said.

"Asshole." Skylar groaned, but she couldn't hide the huge smile on her face. She turned away from Luke again and skipped over to the tokens machine, her hair swinging behind her as she. See, Luke thought, this why she should keep it down all the time.

Luke phone vibrated in is pocket with a new text message, and even though he was trying not to use his phone anymore to save battery power, he opened it up.

Michael: dude we need to talk, call me soon

Even though Michael hardly ever texted Luke like that, and never requested that he calls, Luke ignored it. It probably wasn't extremely important, otherwise Michael would have just called in the first place. Part of him was still scared that Michael was only going to yell at him again, and make him cry. The other part was just scared that whatever Michael was calling about actually was a big deal, and Luke was blowing it off to play Pac-Man.

"Hurry up!" Luke shouted to Skylar, who looked like she was having trouble getting the tokens.

"Your stupid fifty dollar bill is all wrinkled!" Skylar yelled back to him, sounding unamused. She kicked at the machine and let out a loud groan, obviously frustrated.

"Aw, Sky." Luke sighed, walking over to her. Luke took the money from her hands and tried to smooth out the bill, while Skylar tiredly rested her head against Luke's chest. He awkwardly wrapped his arms around her while he tried to figure out this whole machine thing, which was honestly harder than it looked.

"Are you tired?" He asked, resting his chin on top of Skylar's head as he tried once again to put his money through the token machine. Luke was about to try and pry this thing open by himself, he would just have to get tokens the hard way.

"Mhm. I woke up at 3 in the morning." Skylar mumbled into Luke's shirt. She slowly brought her arms up so they were loosely hanging around Luke's waist, and Luke realized that this was the first time that Skylar was voluntarily hugging him. The time that they hugged before, in the airport, that was all Luke. Skylar just stood there and cried.

"Do you want me to get a hotel now? We can go back and rest for a little bit, then go out for dinner or something. I'll pay for it all." Luke suggested, but still continued to try and get the tokens. Of course this time it worked, and an extreme amount of tokens came flying out of the machine. Luke ignored it, his full attention still on Skylar.

"I wanted to play Pac-Man." Skylar whined, looking up at Luke and blinking a few times, her bright green eyes shimmering back at him.

"You're so tired, I can tell." Luke sighed, smoothing back some of Skylar's hair. She really did have a problem with it getting in her face, maybe she had a good reason for keeping it up all the time.

"One game, then we can go get a hotel room." Skylar said, slowly detaching herself from Luke. She picked up some of the tokens - not all, because her tiny hands couldn't hold that much - and took them back over to the game, the smile coming back on her face as it started up.

Luke cupped the rest of his tokens in his hands and carried them over to Skylar, even though he knew they weren't going to use all of them. Luke took one token and slid it in his pocket, kind of like a souvenir, that he could keep even when this day was over. He slowly came up behind Skylar and slid a token into her back pocket as well, which made her whole body tense up. One she realized that Luke wasn't going to try anything she relaxed again, focusing back on the game.

Luke rested his chin on Skylar's shoulder from behind, wrapping his arms around her as she played game after game of Pac-Man, despite her saying that she'd only play one.

"No, no, go that way." Luke yelled, trying to point Skylar in the right direction. She wasn't as horrible at this game as Luke had thought, but she still needed some help.

"That this going to eat you - no, eat that!" Luke said, getting a little too excited. He wished that he was playing the game, and not Skylar, but he wasn't going to try and ask for a turn.

"Stop, you're distracting me!" Skylar whined. She paused the game and turned around, her body now wedged between the machine for the game and Luke's.

"Oh, I'm distracting you?" Luke wiggled his eyebrows suggestively at her, making Skylar blush again.

"Mhm, just a little." Skylar nodded. She hesitantly ran her hands up Luke's chest, stopping when she reached his neck.

This is it, Luke thought, I'm going to kiss her. Everything has been leading up to this moment, and suddenly Luke was nervous. Luke Hemmings, a boy that plays on stage for thousands of screaming girls every night, was nervous.

Luke didn't have any time to kiss Skylar, though, because as he was leaning in he heard the bell above the front door of the arcade ding. He tried to ignore it, and he could tell Skylar was too, but then Luke heard another noise that was a much bigger deal.

It was the snapping and clicking of cameras taking pictures, and standing at the front of the arcade, was a whole group of paparazzi, waiting for Luke to walk by.

"Luke..." Skylar trailed off, obviously having seen them too. Of course they were looking for him, of course Luke couldn't go one day without being chased down by someone.

Luke let go of Skylar and rushed over to their things, quickly picking them up. He threw his sweatshirt at Skylar and dug his sunglasses out of the place that he had stashed them in her backpack and handed those to her, too. He picked up her heavy backpack, once again putting it on himself.

"Put those on, and put the hood up." He instructed. His main goal was to just keep Skylar hidden from the cameras, because she didn't need her face plastered all over People magazine. She was only 17, too young for things like that.

"Luke, what are we - " Skylar stammered, but Luke shushed her again.

"Just don't say anything." He looked around the room and thankfully found a back door that they could try and escape out of. "Are you a good runner?"

"Uh, I guess. I was on track this past year and the year before, I did 4 by 200 relays, but my team wasn't very good..." Skylar rambled and while Luke thought it was the most adorable thing he had ever heard, he really didn't have time to sit there and discuss Skylar's relay team.

"Okay, good." Luke nodded. And with that, he grabbed Skylar's hand and dragged her out the back door, making a break for it.
