3.0 - hate

3:56 PM

Luke had excused himself and went to the bathroom just moments before, and since then Skylar had been laying flat on the bed, staring up at the ceiling. She was confused, to say the least, and her mind was racing once again with all of the possibilities and alternate ways that what just happened between her and Luke could have happened.

She thought that it was a mistake, of course, because with Skylar everything that she ever did felt like a mistake. She didn't know what had come over her when she kissed Luke, because just a little while before she had gotten herself all worked up over the fact that he probably didn't like her anyway. It was clear that Luke had at least some feelings for Skylar now, but that didn't change how she felt. She was still terrified that something bad was going to happen, and things with Luke weren't going to turn out the way she wanted.

Skylar was also scared about Luke leaving her when they get back home, despite his promise to stay. She had no way to tell if he was telling the truth or not, for she had only met him that day, and it was too soon to figure out if Luke was someone she could trust or not. She really wanted to believe him when he said he wasn't going to leave, but she was having a hard time doing soon. But it wouldn't come as a surprise if he did leave her, because that was normal. All Skylar's life she's just been hurt and disappointed, it wouldn't make any difference if Luke did the same.

Either way, kissing Luke felt good. Almost too good.

Skylar was stirred from her thoughts by her own phone ringing from inside of her backpack, that was still lying on the floor. She immediately jumped up from the bed, her first thought being that it was her mother calling, even though it was still late in Australia and she was probably still asleep. Skylar fumbled for her phone anyway, desperately trying to reach it in time.

The phone call wasn't from her mother, but rather from Caitlyn, a girl that Skylar knew from school only because they were lab partners the year before. Skylar liked to consider her and Caitlyn friends, but she wasn't sure how Caitlyn felt about their relationship. Skylar didn't have many friends, anyway, because between all of the bullying she went through in middle school and the way she completely shut down after her parents divorce, Skylar didn't get out much.

Skylar answered the phone, rolling her eyes as she did. It's not that she didn't like Caitlyn, she just wished that she had called at a different time. Maybe when she wasn't so worried about her mom, or maybe when there wasn't an attractive boy jacking off in the bathroom.

"Hello?" Skylar asked, and Caitlyn practically squealed in her ear.

"Skylar! You didn't tell me you liked 5SOS!" Caitlyn yelled. Skylar almost laughed, what was a five sauce?

"I...don't?" Skylar questioned, looking around the room. At that moment she hoped that Luke would come back out, just so she had an excuse to hang up the phone.

"Then why are you hanging out with Luke Hemmings?" Caitlyn scoffed, sounding slightly annoyed with Skylar. She probably thought that Skylar was just lying to her, and trying to hide the fact that she actually was friends with Luke. That wasn't true, she didn't feel the need to hide it, but Skylar was just being Skylar; confused as always.

"Oh, him." Skylar nodded to herself, finally figuring out what five sauce meant. It was short for 5 Seconds of Summer. "He's just a - wait, how did you know that?"

"Uh, Skylar, you're everywhere! There's pictures of you and Luke all over twitter and a new video just went up on the TMZ website of the two of you running away from paparazzi." Caitlyn explained, and Skylar felt her stomach lurch. She was well aware of the paparazzi chasing down Luke, but not of the fact that they were focusing on her too.

"I - I don't - " Skylar didn't understand, was she really causing this big of a deal? Was her photo everywhere? Shit, Skylar thought, I should have worn my good jeans today, these make my butt look too big.

"I didn't even know you listened to their music, you should have said something to me before, we totally could have freaked out about them together!" Caitlyn went on, seeming to ignore how upset Skylar sounded. "Have you met the other boys? Oh my God, have you met Michael? Isn't he so cute? Michael's definitely my favorite."

"Are people really talking about me?" Skylar asked, this time being the one to ignore Caitlyn. Skylar swallowed down the lump in her throat as Caitlyn responded, fearing the worst.

"Yeah, all over the place. You were on E! News." Caitlyn said excitedly. "I feel so cool, I'm practically friends with a celebrity."

At least one of Skylar's questions was answered; Caitlyn definitely thought that they were friends. At least she did now that Skylar was getting all of this attention, there was no telling if Caitlyn was going to stick around when all of this was over.

"What are people saying about me?" Skylar asked quietly. She lowered her voice suddenly, coming to the realization that Luke may be able to hear her from out here, even though she was sure that he was pretty busy occupying himself with some other things.

"It's mostly about Luke, and his 'Mystery Girl'. He had a mystery girl just one month ago, too, they were seen coming out of a bar together and going into his hotel. So scandalous." Caitlyn laughed, but Skylar didn't think it was very funny. She assumed that Luke was a bit of a player, and she knew that he had been with a countless amount of girls, but she didn't like hearing about him doing the same thing that they were doing with someone else. It made her feel like just another hookup, even though Luke promised that she wasn't.

"Oh. It's not - it's not like that, we're only friends, really.." Skylar trailed off, trying to come up with a quick story to tell Caitlyn. She wanted so badly for that to be true, for her and Luke to only be friends, but it wasn't.

"It's getting kind of nasty on Twitter, actually, but you should ignore the rumors. I know that none of them are true anyway, that's all that matters." Caitlyn said, ignoring Skylar once again. She had a habit of doing that, even when they were together. That's what Skylar gets for being so quiet.

"Rumors?" Skylar questioned, and she already felt tears in the corners of her eyes. Rumors were not a friend of Skylar's.

"You're apparently pregnant with Luke's child, you've fucked Calum, Luke's paying you to be his personal sex slave, you're paying Luke to let you spend the day with him. I think you're also Ashton's long lost sister or cousin or something dumb like that, I don't even know. There's more, but I can't remember. Some of their fans are so vicious." Caitlyn rambled on, and Skylar had wished that she hadn't even asked, because now she was itching to read all of these rumors, and see just what people think of her.

"I - I have to go, Caitlyn, but I'll try and call you later and explain all of this. Bye." Skylar said quietly, her hands shaking as she hung up the phone without waiting for Caitlyn's reply.

Skylar ended the call and opened up the safari app typing "Luke Hemmings and - " in the search bar. Her full name, Skylar Evans, popped up next to his, which scared Skylar even more, because she had no idea how anyone found out her full name.

The search results for "Luke Hemmings and Skylar Evans" were not very pretty, and Skylar hated the fact that she couldn't seem to stop looking at everything. It seemed like her picture was everywhere. On every link she clicked, every article she opened, ever story she read. While some people might think the pictures of her and Luke were cute, Skylar found them beyond frightening. She didn't like being in the spotlight like this, she didn't understand how Luke could handle it.

Soon enough she had read and seen everything, from the rumors to the pictures to the fake twitter accounts using her names and worst of all, the hate. Skylar didn't understand how some teenage girls could be so mean, just because their favorite band member was associating himself with another female.

Skylar felt tears start to slip out of her eyes as she sat on the edge of the bed wondering when Luke was going to come back, or if he was going to at all. She mainly wanted him to come out of the bathroom so Skylar could go in, and lock herself away from everything for a while. It was the first time all day that she honestly wanted to be alone.

Luke came out a few minutes later, a big smile on his face as he made his way over to Skylar, not yet noticing that she was crying. She was good at that, crying without anyone noticing.

"Sky, baby, how about we go get some food now?" Luke said, wiping his palms on his jeans. He stood in front of Skylar and rocked back and forth on his heels, waiting for her to respond.

"Later." Skylar said, then stopped talking, because if she trying to speak any more she was sure that she'd end up crying.

"Skybaby." Luke said, saying it as one word. Throughout the day the phrase "Sky, baby" had seemed to shorten itself into just one word, so it sounded like "Skybaby" was Luke's nickname for Skylar instead of just "Sky".

Luke got down on his knees and kneeled in front of Skylar, putting his hands on her own knees. He stared into her eyes, finally noticing the tears that were trying to stay put.

"Skylar, what's wrong?" Luke said softly, giving her knees a squeeze.

"Nothing," Skylar choked out, then stood up, pushing Luke away from her. She quietly made her way to the bathroom, ignoring the protests coming from Luke's mouth as he followed her.

"Baby, please, tell me what's wrong." Luke begged, and instead of answering him Skylar just slammed the bathroom door in his face, locking it behind her. She sat down on the cool tile of the floor and brought her knees to her chest, letting the tears fall freely from her eyes. It didn't even matter that Luke was trying to comfort her, she barely even noticed. All Skylar knew was that she felt even worse than she had earlier that morning.
