Day 9

All I could see was Sid's head disappearing beneath water.

And without second thought, I reached the edged and dove in.

The water was icy cold, it froze my cheeks and skin the second it came to contact. But I shoved back these feeling, fighting through the cold numbness in my limbs, only searching for Sid.

I saw him, his figure writhing in water, losing his glow. His eyes wide in panic.

I swam towards him, trying to grab him, but he was flailing too wildly for me to maintain a good grip.

Finally, with a few moments of wrestling underwater, I hooked my arms around his shoulders from the back, and kicked towards the surface.

He continued to squirm in my grip, which confused me. I was bringing him to the surface, why was he still panic stricken like he was sinking?

I dismissed it as a simple panic attack and fought through the water, before my head popped, breaking through the surface and I drew a deep breath of good air.

"Uniqua! Sid!" Mid called.

He crouched on the edge, heaving us both onto shore.

I lay, colder, wet and treming on snow, trying to work air into my lungs, but even that only froze my lungs.

I forced myself in a sitting position.

My teeth chattered as I hugged myself, looking in Mid's direction, who was with Sid.

He too was trembling, his brownish red eyes flickered like a dying flame.

"M..M...Mid....I..." He gasped.

His body no longer glowed like burning coals, no longer consumed by burning brown flames.

He was soaked, soggy, and shaking.

He drew in rapid sharp breaths, whimpering.

"Sid, its alright. Uniqua saved you." Mid said, face creased with worry. "You'll be fine."

"Mid... I...I feel..."

Something charred brown fell onto the snow.

Mid looked, in horror, realising it was a piece of Sid's cheek.

"M..Mid...?" Sid choked. "Wh..Whats happening...?"

A piece of his back fell off, then his finger, his arm.

"N..No! You...You're going to be fine!" Mid cried out desperately, holding his friend tight, trying to keep him together.

"I feel...funny..."

"No, its alright. Its alright its alright itsalright!" Mid said, nearly a scream.

But Sid started to fall apart, his soggy bits falling onto Mid, and sliding down into the snow.

I resisted the urge to throw up.

It was such a horrifying image.

"Sid! NO NO NO!"

But the last of the Dirt/Fire man hit the snow in a soggy wet pile of brownish black.

"SID!" Mid shrieked.
