Chapter Two

"-ing?" A soft, motherly voice broke through the darkness, but it was fuzzy, as if fluff filled Darkling's ears.

"-Kling?" Asked the voice again. Darkling felt numb.

"-arkling?!" The voice begun to become panicked. Darkling felt as though her mind was wading through thick cobwebs, suspended in one place. It took almost forever for her to call a meeting between whatever three braincells she must have after the crash so that she could focus.

The voice became sharper and less fuzzy as Darkling slowly recovered.

"Darkling?! Darkling, wake up now! I swear, if Aspen got you killed you both are...are...uhm...please, Darkling, GET UP!"

Darkling opened her eyes and groaned. "Motherrrrrr?" She groaned. She could distinguish that voice anywhere.

"Darkling!" Blacksight's voice was full of relief and she sat back. Her blind gaze was focused on Darkling's chest, but Darkling was she her mother thought that she was staring right at her dragonet's face.

Darkling let out a dry chuckle. "Where's Father?" She asked, sitting up. She made sure to make enough noise while doing so that Blacksight could tell where she was and what she was doing.

"Right here." Aspen came into view, and Darkling gasped at what she saw; Aspen's right wing was torn, hanging in shreds. It was tied to him in a sling.

"What-?"

"A piece of debris tore my wing." Aspen said sadly. "I won't be able to fly again."

"Oh." Replied Darkling. "Oh. We aren't going back to pantala, are we?"

Aspen shook his head. "No. We'll have to live here now. Luckily, Blacksight has a big enough estate for all of us. And, it'll be better for you. After your hatching day, you can go to Jade Mountain, and now you can fly around freely without fear of being seen by HiveWing patrols."

Darkling shuffled her talons. "Okay." Her voice was quiet. "C-Can we go...to our new home?" She asked.

"Of course, my little leaf." Chuckled Aspen, hanging his uninjured wing over her side.
