Return
You rub your cheek as you shuffle into the kitchen. "Finally awake huh? I'll make breakfast." Smoker hums getting up from where he sat at the table.
"I can't believe you got me to sleep... What sorcery did you use?" You grumble, sitting at the table with a yawn. "How long was I out?"
"Two days, I thought you'd be asleep for another, but oh well... Do you feel any better?" He asks. You glance at him and nod.
"Yeah... For a moment it felt like I had it all back... And we were happy..." You breathe looking at the table. Smoker peers back at you before focusing on your food.
"... Why don't you call him? That guy you used to live with... Or any of your other friends?" He inquires.
"I don't like them seeing the person I am now..." You sigh as he brings over your plate, setting it in front of you. "Thanks..."
"No problem, I have to head out now, see you soon." He pats your shoulder before going out. With another sigh, you eat swiftly, go to your apartment and ignore the absolute mess it was in as you go into your room and change for work.
You were still shaking off sleep when you entered headquarters. Lucci pauses, looking over as you come in. "___, is everything well?" He inquires, coming to your side.
"Have I ever told you, I don't like sleeping?" You ask, taking the reports he offered.
"You told me." He hums as you scan over things, coming to the last paper and stopping.
"Portgas D..... Ace..?" You murmur.
"Is something wrong ___?" Lucci inquires. You shake your head before leading into the main lab and extraction room, stopping to look at the familiar freckled face. He looked exhausted, even as he met your gaze. But you could see recognition flicker in his eyes.
"What's the survival estimate for this test?" You inquire.
"Ninety percent." The leading researcher informs. You swallow, closing your eyes.
"Alright, proceed with the test." You breathe, letting him give instructions. You open your eyes again watching the needles move closer to him.
"Ace!"
"Hey Sunny! I brought you a toy!"
"For me!? Why?"
"Mm... You remind me of Luffy when he was little... This is alright, right ___?"
"Yeah, thanks... Say thanks Sunny!"
"Hehe! Thanks Ace!"
An explosion makes you blink back, finding your hand on one of the monitors, smoke drifting from the shattered screens around you. The machine jerks away from Ace and you relax.
"M-Ma'am?" One of the shocked researchers manage, making you glance back.
"Not today... Not... Not today." You breathe rushing out. Lucci follows after you swiftly.
"___." He starts, catching your wrist. "What's wrong?" He breathes. You shake, trying to focus.
".... I don't know... I just... Can't right now..." You wanted to run away, but your knees give out instead, curling into the floor and crying. He kneels beside you with a soft frown. He picks you up bridal style, carrying you to the elevator and riding it down. He was silent while you try to compose yourself.
After a bit, you relax, resting your head on his shoulder. Lucci peers at your face, "Shall I inform the higher ups that you need a few days off?" He asks lightly. You shake your head, closing your eyes.
"Give me tonight. I'll get my head straight soon..." You reply softly. He nods even though he knew you wouldn't see.
"I'll take you home then." He breathes, heading for your apartment.
You enter your apartment, looking around to find it back to normal again thanks to Smoker. A frown comes to your lips. You wanted to go on a rampage again, but it felt wrong to do that again since Smoker would probably be the one cleaning it again. You stifle a soft sigh, gathering some clothes and going to take a shower.
After laying under the water until it grew as cold as ice. A single thought finally implants itself in your head. Willing yourself to get out and dressed, you grab your phone, using your laptop to hack into the hospital databases until you find his number, putting it in your phone. You call the number, putting it to your ear.
It rang for a few moments before he answers. "Hello?" He asks.
"Can I make an appointment for a broken brain?" You ask lightly. There's a pause, and you picture his small smile.
"I believe I can help with that... When do you want to schedule your appointment?" He inquires.
"... Can we meet today?" You murmur.
"Of course, how about... Seventh City fountain?" He hums. "In an hour."
"See you then Law." You breathe before hanging up and going out. You felt calmer now for sure maybe Law could help you find some clarity? You step out of your building, starting for the wall. You look up at it as you step onto the bridge, it's shadow covering you.
"M-Ms. ___! Good day! Are you going back over so soon?" Coby's voice draws your gaze down as he comes over, seeming surprised by your presence.
"Yes. I want to go over." You tell him going past. He escorts you to the other side, waiting for you to get a rental before going to his post. You get into the rental increasing the window tint before driving for Seventh City. At some point your mind mustve checked out, because when you blink back, you're suddenly parked near the fountain. You take your hands from the steering wheel, covering your face and giving your head a shake.
You get out of the car, looking around until you spot Law. He offers a small smile and you rush to him, colliding into his chest and hugging him tightly. He lets out a breath, hugging you back tightly. "Did something happen ___?" He asks softly, rubbing your back.
"Ace was brought under the needle this morning Law..." You whisper. He stiffens at that, holding you tighter.
"W-Whatdid you do ___?" He asks in slight horror.
"I broke everything and ran... I... I don't know what I'm doing anymore Law... My mind..." You touch your head. "Everything is just swirling around and I cant grasp anything..." You grit your teeth. Law searches your face, cupping your face and making you look at him. He lets out a shaky breath and smiles, hugging your head to his chest.
"You're.... You're coming back ___..." He whispers in relief, kissing your temple. You blink in confusion but your body relaxes. "You'll figure out what you want you need to do. How about you take a ride around town? Look around and let it all come back to you." He releases you, tipping your chin. You meet his gaze and nod slightly. "Do you want company?"
"No... I feel better now... I've missed you so much Law..." You breathe. He smiles and kisses your cheek.
"I've missed you too." He tells you. A smile comes to your lips and you go back to the car, getting in and driving off. You look around as you drive through the city, memories popping up now and again. Soon you find yourself parking in front of a familiar building.
You pause before getting out and taking the elevator up to your old floor. You walk up to the door, opening it carefully. 'He kept it unlocked.' You think, easing in and closing it behind you. It looked the same, except now there were pictures of you and Sunny here and there. You go to one of them, looking at it carefully. You obviously hadn't been aware of some of them.
You peer into Sunny's room, finding it almost the same, besides a few new toys and a picture of Sunny and Merry playing next to his bed. You lean on the doorframe, taking it all in. For once, sadness didn't rise past your chest. You felt awe, from it, that nothing had dust on it. Like Sunny had just put up his toys. You swallow and start for your old room. Peering in, you find a picture of you smiling brightly next to the bed with a box of letters beside it.
Curious, you go over and look them over. All addressed to you, but he didn't know your new address to send them out. You frown softly, picking up the box. With one more look around, you go back out and to the elevator. You look back at the letters as you ride down. Returning to the car, you get in and set the box in the passenger's side.
Driving over to his shop, you park across the street, tinting the windows as much as you could. You sit back when you catch sight of the red head, his shirt covered with oil stains as he focuses on work. You catch a glimpse of his phone peeking out from his pocket, it was the same as before. Had he really kept the same phone too? You pull out yours, dialing his number, never forgotten.
Putting it to your ear, you watch him pause and clean off his hands before answering. "Hello." He breathes. You let out a breath, not sure if you should speak. "Hello?" He says again. You feel tears come to your eyes as no words come to your lips. He pauses, straightening up. "___?" He breathes.
"... Kid..." You whisper, watching his eyes widen.
"H-Hey... You alright? You need anything?" He asks softly. You swallow and smile slightly.
"Yeah... I think I'm going to be alright..." You admit softly. He relaxes slightly, smiling softly.
"Can... Can I see you soon?" He inquires.
"Sorry, not yet... I have to go now."
"Alright... I'm glad you called... I love you." He tells you and you feel tears come to your eyes.
"Kid... Thank you." You manage before hanging up and wiping at your eyes. You peer at the clock on your phone. Night was drawing near. You glance back at the box of letters before looking to the wall, driving for it again.
You enter your apartment with the box, going to your room and sitting down, starting to read the letters from Kid. They were so sweet and sad, making tears escape your eyes as you read them. He missed Sunny as much as you did. He missed you too, going to your favorite places, hoping to find you there. He mostly told you about his dreams, when you were beside him again....
Wiping at your eyes, you set the letter down, looking over and catching your little brother's picture. You look at it before looking at your closet and getting up. Going over, you open the closet, looking at your weapons. "Im gonna make you proud little brother."
