Book 2: First Chapter
"Hurry up Hazel. We don't have all day." I huffed as I dragged Hazel down the road.
"I don't want to go back under the bridge." Hazel complained. "It's boring there."
"Well. Guess what? It's winter here and we don't have a home to get to this year so I would hurry up. Faster we get there, faster I can't try to build a fire to warm up." I said, as I dragged her further along the road.
"You're not going to be able to. Snow mush is everywhere and it just rained. There isn't anything dry for miles." Hazel debarred. She was right. It has rained forever. No way we would be able to get wood to start a fire. Or burn anything for that fact.
I didn't say anything, but kept pulling her along to the bridge that we called home.
"Please Neeks?" Hazel begged. "Please??????" I looked at Hazel. My eyes wandered to her eyes. Those big brown eyes that I couldn't say no to.
"Alright. But quickly. Remember. No touching things or talking loudly." I said, not letting her hand wander from mine.
"I promise I promise. Can we please go now?" Hazel begged. I smiled and shook my head. Hazel tugged on my arm the whole time, as she pulled my down the busy streets of London. She pulled me along until we reached the shop she loved so much.
Her face lit up and she dragged me inside. The manager of the store didn't like us in here, because we were homeless and all. But the cashier in the front adored Hazel. She would always tell her stories about the dolls and where they came from.
I never got why Hazel loved dolls so much. The glass dolls. Not sure what those are called. But those dolls. She loved them with all her heart. Ever since she was little. Mom never wanted to get her one, because she kept saying it was just a faze. Dad didn't get one for her because Mom said not too. But for years Hazel still liked them. I would have thought by age 12 that she would have been done with them, but no. She still dreamed of them.
"Hey Hazel!" She the cashier in the from, Rosie. "Hey Nicholas." She added.
"Hi." I said. Hazel ran up to the front desk.
"Any new dolls?" She asked.
"No, sorry Hazel. Some are due this week though." Rosie said.
"You hear that Neeks? We have to come back. Until they get here." Hazel said.
"Ok great." I said. "We have to go. Or they'll come out." I told her. Hazel knew who I was talking about. Rosie did not. It will stay that way.
"Ok. See you later this week Rosie!" Hazel said as I dragged her out the door.
"Bye!" I called back. We didn't get to hear what Rosie had to say, because the door shut with a bang and locked us out in the cold, winter days.
Second book is not published yet.
