Chapter 6- Heroes Association
"Uh...shouldn't we wait for Youmu and Aya to come back before doing another attempt?" Marisa asked blinking at them.
"They can catch up." Reimu said before closing her eyes to focus. Once again there was a spark and an orb of light forming in the middle of the triangle. It grew bigger, bigger, and then blew back the three of them before exploding. The shrine didn't become damaged but it did char the ground as well as the rest of the girls.
"Well attempt number 2 can be marked as a failure." Reimu said and then sighed heavily.
"Oi what are you all doing?" They all saw Genos staring at them sternly with his regular blank face.
"Oh Genos-san hello!" Sanae chirped waving happily.
"I sensed some strange activity and it lead me here. What were you all doing?" He asked once more.
"Trying to create a way back to Gensokyo." Reimu said dusting off her shrine maiden dress. She decided to keep the danger a secret and not involve anyone from the outside world in their problems. It would only cause more trouble.
"Any reason?" Genos persisted on his interrogation.
'This cyoborg's a persistent one.' Reimu thought her patience running out.
"If you were stuck in another world against your will wouldn't you try anything to get back to your own world?" Reimu asked.
Genos gave a blank stare but nodded his head, "I suppose that makes sense, but it's still very suspicious."
"The suspicion also makes sense, how about we all take a break?" Sanae offered.
"I'm down with that da ze." Marisa said a little relieved.
"Oiiiiii!" Aya slammed down onto the concrete creating a giant wind. She grinned at Reimu, who looked shocked.
"Reimu you'll never guess what I saw!" Aya said with an excited spark in her eyes. Reimu stared at her before whacking her in the head with her purification rod.
"Owwww!"
"Why'd you run off like that?!" Reimu yelled her patience officially ran out.
"Ahh Reimu-san calm down please!" Sanae began freaking out at the pissed Reimu. Genos blinked watching the scene in front of him until he saw Saitama walking along with Youmu.
"Sensei!" He called, but he noticed Saitama looking a little downcast.
"Sensei what's wrong?" He asked.
"I'd rather not dwell on it, why're you here anyway go home!" Saitama exclaimed trying to walk to his apartment.
"I'm determined to get stronger so I'm here to learn everything about you." Genos said, the rest of the girls could feel the determination radiating off of him.
"Ah, Saitama-san, Genos-san how about you have tea with us?" Sanae said happily clapping her hands. Reimu looked at her in disbelief.
"Returning try hospitality you showed us earlier, now would be a good time." She explained with a smile.
Saitama just shrugged too caught up in a personal dilemma, and Genos just followed like an eager puppy. Reimu sighed heavily once more.
"I'll get the kettle."
-------------------------------
"So this is what the inside of a shrine looks like?" Genos asked his eyes glazing over every detail of the room heavily.
"Yes, my shrine kind of looks like this as well." Sanae said sipping her tea. She noticed Saitama looking gloomy across the table surrounded by a depressed aura.
"Saitama-san uh are you ok?" She asked concern lacing her voice.
"Yeah just thinking about the encounter with that ninja."
"Ninja?" Everyone but Youmu and Aya blinked in confusion.
"We met this ninja who called himself Speed O'Sound Sonic in the forest." Youmu explained.
"Who's that Sensei?" Genos asked while Saitama gave his usual blank look.
"I dunno he just up and called me and Maya his rivals." He replied nonchalantly.
"I told you it's Aya!"
"Why the redundant name I wonder" Remilia asked while Patchouli just shrugged.
"Well I'm betting he didn't pose any kind of threat." Alice said.
"He did want to fight Saitama though!" Aya exclaimed this catching Genos' attention.
"All of you shut up! I'm having a crisis!" Saitama suddenly yelled making everyone go quiet.
"You're having a crisis?!" Reimu exclaimed still frustrated about the failed attempts.
"If it's bothering someone such as yourself Sensei tell us." Genos said.
"I'm not famous."
Genos gasped in surprise while the other girls looked at him.
"You're upset because you're not famous?" Remilia asked confused as to why he was making such a big deal out of it. Reimu on the other hand understood where he was coming from since her shrine doesn't get as much donations unlike the Moriya shrine.
"I've been in this business for three years defeating all sorts of monsters you think I would at least get some recognition but instead I'm being overshadowed." He said interlocking his fingers leaning on the kotasu.
"Well that does seem distressing.." Sanae said.
"Sensei, have you signed up for the Hero Registration?" Genos asked.
"Hero Registration da ze?"
"Yes, three years ago it was formed by a man named Chinner after a random passerby saved his grandson." Genos explained. Sanae was definitely caught in the history from the look on her face.
"So if you signed up then your deeds would be recognized." Alice said trying to make sense of the situation.
"I had no idea..." Saitama mumbled in mock shock.
"Well this is exciting news!" Sanae exclaimed.
"Genos-san are you signed with the Hero Registration?" She asked the cyborg her voice filled with curiousity.
"No I never had an interest." He replied.
"Ok how about this, you sign up and I make you my disciple for real." Saitama said making Genos immediately perk up.
"Ok I'll do it!"
"We should go cheer for them Reimu-san!" Sanae exclaimed to which Reimu stared at her weirdly.
"Haaah why?!"
"Moral support!"
"You know Reimu I'm sure you would become quite the hero with your shrine maiden powers." Saitama said putting his fingers on his chin.
"I'm not one to work if I have to be forced. Besides I got other stuff to worry about." She said, and her thoughts immediately went to the barrier. She worried about the safety and condition of Gensokyo.
"I'm worried about our funds." Sanae said looking at the stack of yen dollars.
"It doesn't even look like it will last us a week."
"I heard that the Hero Association gives funds to heroes but I'm not sure if that's a rumor." Genos said getting both of the shrine maiden's attention.
"But we wouldn't have time." Sanae said remembering their dilemma.
"I'm sure we could donate." Saitama spoke up making both of the girls perk up in glee.
"Donations are always welcome!" They exclaimed.
"Oh man, here they go.." Marisa groaned out. She got used to Reimu always bugging her about the donations whether it was to complain or brag.
The plan was set for the two males to officially become heroes.
----------------------------
The next day all the girls except for Remilia and Patchouli decided to come and observe the so called Hero Registry. They were shocked by the amount of people there.
"There's more people here than at a festival da ze!" Marisa exclaimed amazed.
"A lot of weird looking people too." Reimu commented.
"Hey do you see those girls over there?"
"They look kind of weird but at the same time really cute."
"Are they signing up?"
"And I think we're drawing attention to ourselves." Youmu said hearing the murmurs of the crowd. This was the first time they were surrounded by many males. They followed both of the males quickly into the building. Once they were in they admired the size.
"They must really take this business seriously." Sanae commented. While she was admiring the building she didn't notice the large amount of guys staring at her. That is until Genos sent a glare.
"Oi stare at something else will ya da ze!" Marisa scolded some of the registered men.
They all waited until Saitama and Genos' names were called over the intercom.
"Good luck! We'll wait for you to finish!" Sanae called waving at them. Marisa gave a grin and a thumbs up, Reimu copied her actions but she had a neutral look on her face. Youmu and Alice just waved. The girls say around the lobby for a good 15 minutes before they got a little bored.
"Now where do we meet up with them?" Reimu asked staring at the ceiling.
"Uhhh..." They looked at each other as if one had the answer.
"Maybe we can ask someone?" Sanae said sweatdropping. She walked up to some random person to ask for directions. She saw a male dressed sort of like a model with light blue hair. She went up to him.
"Um excuse me!" She called, the male turned around staring at Sanae in what looked like curiosity.
"Yes miss?"
"Where would you go to meet up with the recruits after their exam. We sort of have friends taking it." She said.
The male kept staring making Sanae a little uncomfortable, but he pointed down to a hall.
"It's right down there." He said his voice smooth as silk.
Sanae gave a grateful smile and bowed, "Thank you very much..." She trailed off.
"I'm Amai Mask an A class hero." He said running his fingers through his hair. He gave a playboy smile watching Sanae's reaction.
"Oh so you're a hero?" Sanae asked interested.
"That's right." He said giving a little flirty undertone to his voice.
'I'm getting...sort of a bad vibe with this man. But he said he was a hero, so why am I feeling this way?' Sanae thought keeping the polite smile on your face.
"By the way what's your name miss?" Amai Mask asked the flirty tone only getting stronger.
"Kochiya Sanae."
"Are you signing up to be a hero? Although you look more like a shrine maiden from the look of your outfit."
"Actually I am a shrine maiden." She stated a matter-of-factly.
"Well you're a cute shrine maiden." Amai Mask said winking, but Sanae wasn't affected in the slightest.
"Thank you for the compliment. Actually I can't become a hero due to some...circumstances. So I'm waiting with my friends for other friends who are signing up to become heroes." Sanae said and gestured to the other girls looking very bored, well except Aya.
"Anyway thank you for showing me the way Amai Mask-san." She bowed before heading back to her group. Amai Mask lingered around and watched them in curiosity before heading somewhere else.
--------------------------------
All of the girls arrived at the end where they saw Genos and Saitama lounging around.
"Oh? You're finished already?" Reimu asked.
"Just about 10 minutes ago, we're awaiting the results now." Genos replied. Just as he said that a voice over the intercom spoke up summoning them for their results.
"Speaking of da ze." Marisa said. The girls all followed the two males to another room where an official handed them their results. There was a little tension and they all could feel it. Genos checked over his results with the girls peeking over.
100 points Ranking S class
"Whoa! You got full points da ze?!" Marisa plus some of the other girls looked in shock.
"Congrats Genos-san!" Sanae said excitingly.
"Thanks, but I don't know why I need a rank." Genos said scanning his paper. Everyone then turned to Saitama who was strangely silent.
"Sensei, what did you score?" Genos asked.
Saitama turned around showing his paper with what looked like a slightly creepy yet disappointed face.
"I got 71 points, the lowest of the C class." He said. The other girls looked confused as to how that was possible.
"But what from we saw you should be higher." Reimu said.
"Let me have a talk with them." Genos said sounding a little angry.
"Don't do it I'll die of shame!" Saitama exclaimed stopping him in his tracks. Sanae walked and patted his shoulder,
"That's ok Saitama-san, you at least got into the Association." She said giving a tiny smile.
"Plus these guys haven't seen that gag you have da ze." Marisa said.
"Can the two new recruits Saitama and Genos report to lecture hall 6. The lecture for successful candidates is about to start."
"Well Sanae's right, come on let's get this over with." Saitama said walking in the lecture hall's direction.
----------------------------------
"Are you sure you wanted to check the book store here?" Remilia asked while twirling a leftover parasol she found in Reimu's closet. Patchouli nodded silently while entered the small bookstore. They both have left the shrine after Remilia started to get bored, and have purposely not gone with the rest of the group to the two male's test.
"I wanted to check out if this place has any good books since most of my tomes are back in my library." Patchouli said scanning the shelf.
"This is the most time I've seen you outside." Remilia remarked a little shocked.
"Hey I get bored sometimes too you know, even though I don't show it." Patchouli admitted grabbing a random book.
'A guide to Heroes?' She thought raising a brow. She opened it finding a catalogue of different heroes.
'This is what that cyborg was describing earlier. There are heroes from the so called Heroes Association.' She shut the book and tucked it into her robe. She and Remilia left the bookstore after Patchouli felt satisfied, she was skimming through a fantasy book.
"Books here are so much different from the tomes." Patchouli said.
"Obviously these must be what humans read." Remilia said still very bored.
They suddenly heard some commotion down the street. They became curious even though they had bored looks on their faces. They walked up seeing some weird cross between a Venus fly trap and a man, and another pair of men confronting it. One had armor with a bicycle and another was dressed like a high school junkie in a baseball jacket, baggy jeans, the beanie, but he also had a very peculiar looking slingshot.
The thing screeched a slur between regular speech and a roar.
"Devour!"
Remilia raised a brow in curiosity, but she couldn't help but feel a little disgusted.
The other men were fending off the plant monster while civilians escaped. The monster whipped around some vines landing some harsh lashes on the duo as the burly man flew into a building while the other landed in front of Remilia's and Patchouli's feet. The man groaned, and through his blurry vision he saw the girls staring at him through half lidded eyes.
"You two...should escape." He said in a strained voice.
"Escape? Why would we, I don't fear this...thing." Remilia spat out.
"Patchy." Remilia said to Patchouli playfully. The sorceress sighed before coming into the monster's vision. The plant thing screeched once Patchouli appeared in front of it. The burly man attempted another hit from behind only to be whipped, landing harshly enough to dent the concrete in front of Patchouli.
"How pathetic." Patchouli remarked.
"This is just wasting time." She said. She got out her card and her tome at the same time. She started chanting some words before a magic circle appeared before her. The man before Remilia gasped in shock as he felt the intense heat. Remilia saw the plant attempting to whip Patchouli, so she called upon some Crimson chains to hold the beast in it's place. She smirked to herself as she found this a relieving her boredom just a little.
"Spell card: Sun sign Royal Flare." Patchouli casted her fire magic activated by her spell card. In a large wave of fire the plant burned to ashes screeching in pain. Once there was nothing left but a pile of ash Patchouli put her tome away substituting it with the novel.
"Whoa." The man in armor breathed out.
"As expected of Patchy!" Remilia exclaimed patting the back of her friend.
"W-What was.." The man attempted to ask suddenly meeting the eerie crimson gaze of the vampire.
"Something a human wouldn't understand." She said confusing the boy.
Cheers erupted from a small crowd that watched the scene. Patchouli and Remilia thought nothing of the praise.
"Miss miss, thank you for saving Mr. Mumen Rider and Mr. Golden Ball." A young boy said to Patchouli.
"Mumen Rider and Golden ball?" She asked sounding disinterested. The man on the ground groaned once more before standing up shakily.
"I'm Mumen Rider, C class Rank 1." He said.
"Oh you're one of those heroes." Remilia said putting her fingers to her chin.
"I am miss, and who might you two be? You certainly must not be citizens here." He said. He surmised from their appearances to their strange powers.
"Hmm...not telling~" Remilia said teasing the human. She found fun in seeing the confused face of the human. She and Patchouli walked away heading back to the shrine leaving Mumen rider in confusion.
"Huh?" He breathed out blinking.
