Chapter 18: Not Guilty

Chapter 18

"Hilary!"

I lifted my head up to look at the door.

I just stared at it like that would somehow magically cause it to open.

That would be cool...

"Hilary!!!"

I groaned, throwing back the thick blankets I had drowned myself in and stood up, walking towards the door.

I had been spending my Saturday morning huddled in my blankets, watching my favourite movies and eating Ben and Jerry's.

Yeah, I know it's sad, but what can I say. These things always help take my mind off of drama.

Speaking of which...

I hadn't seen the jerk all morning.

He was avoiding me. What a coward...

'Says you'

Let me be!

I swung open the door to find Jordan standing there, looking up at me confused as to why I was being such a bi- er, as he would say, drama queen.

"Yes?" I asked him softly.

"Someone's here to see you." He said, still staring at me like he was trying to figure me out.

Good luck with that...

"Who?" I asked him.

"I can't say, they said not to tell you." Jordan said nervously.

My curiosity grew.

"Jordan..." I said warningly.

He quickly looked around, avoiding my stare.

"Who is it?" I said slowly, but demandingly.

I knew he would crack.

But he caught me by surprise as he quickly bolted down the stairs, screaming bloody murder.

Well then...

I trudged down the stairs cautiously.

For all I knew, it could be police officers wanting to arrest me from the whole ballon incident...

I checked behind me to make sure the stairs were clear to bolt up, just in case.

I froze as I reached the last step, my eyes hardening.

"What do you want." I said coldly.

Kylee looked up at me sadly. "Hilary, I need to tell you something."

News flash! I'm not so dumb, I already know your plan!

"I don't want to hear it." I said stubbornly.

"No, you have to. Please. It's important." She pleaded.

Oh, so she did have a heart and decided to tell me the truth.

But she had still chosen money over me.

I'd never forget that.

I looked into her eyes, and almost said yes. Almost.

I sighed. "Honey, I already know about your deal with my parents." I said casually.

I watched in amusement as her eyes widened.

"Then you need to hear my explanation." She said.

"And what if I don't want to?" I said coldly.

"Look, I know what I did was horrible, and unforgivable, but you deserve an explanation. And it's your choice whether to listen to me or not. But I'm dong this because I still care about you. I miss you, and I know you don't deserve a bitch friend like me, but please, just hear me out." She said, her eyes becoming watery.

My eyes had also become moist when she said she still cared.

'She's using you...'

But there's no harm in listening to what she has to say.

I sighed. "Five minutes. You've got five minutes."

She smiled. "Can we talk somewhere private?" She asked politely.

I was about to say no, but something stopped me.

I missed her, and even if she did betray me for money, she was still the fun, loving, crazy best friend I knew.

So I nodded and walked up the stairs, to my room, with her in tow.

I sat down on my bed and watched Kylee close the door, and then come sit beside me.

There was a pause.

A long pause...

I looked up at her, waiting for her to speak, but she remained quiet, deep in thought.

"Look Kylee, I really don't have-" I started to say.

"Hold on, this isn't easy, just give me a minute." She said softly, running a hand through her hair.

She did that when she was nervous.

After taking a deep breath, she finally started. "Two weeks ago, your parents came by my house and said they needed to talk. I was shocked and confused as to why they would come see me, before you. So they explained. They told me that they wanted to get you married, fast. They said it was important, and the only other thing they told me was that it would end badly for you. At first, I refused of course, I even swore at them, if you don't mind."

"I really don't." I mumbled.

"Yeah, so anyways, they tried bribing me with money, jewelry, the whole 'I'll give you everything you've ever wanted' persuasion, but none of those worked. I wasn't gonna betray my best friend. And then they threatened me. That was what made me do it." She stopped to see my reaction.

I nodded for her to go on.

"They threatened to hurt Jamie." She said, her voice breaking slightly.

My eyes widened. Jamie was Kylee's older brother who was currently in Florida with my brother in University.

"I didn't believe them, since I thought the idea was crazy, but then they showed me pictures. They had pictures of Jamie! I was so scared of anything happening to Jamie I had no other choice! I'm so sorry Hilary!" Kylee cried, ending up sobbing uncontrollably and saying sorry about a dozen times through her hiccups.

I embraced her and rubbed her back, shushing her.

"It's okay." I whispered.

"No, I'm not done yet." She said, pulling away, wiping her tears and continuing. "So I agreed to them and so ever since, I've been trying to get you to fall in love with Tyler. I tried to lay off a little, but every time I would, I would be threatened again." She said miserably.

"Wait, but that day I was going over to your house to apologize, I heard my parents-" I started.

"That was all a plan. They knew you were coming there somehow, so they forced me to put on an act. They thought you'd grow furious and never speak to me again. They wanted you to know this so that you'd try to marry Tyler, just to see why they were doing this. But they knew you'd call it off at the last second. So they were planning on threatening you. They were gonna use Andrew." Kylee stopped for me to gather my thoughts.

"What? But how did they know I was gonna come to your house and that I had a plan?" I asked, shocked.

How the hell could they know this? And more importantly, would they actually threaten to hurt Andrew, their own son?

"Well they're evil masterminds, so I guess they knew what their own daughter would plot." Kylee shrugged.

"But then why are you telling me all this? Won't you get caught and get in trouble? And why were they trying to get me to hate you?" I asked.

This was so confusing.

"Well, first of all, they don't know I'm here, and I plan on hiding here for some time if that's fine with you." She started.

I nodded quickly.

"They were trying to take away all your friends, since, as I quote 'she needs to be alone and have no one to turn to when we break her completely.'" Kylee said straight forwardly.

What kind of monsters are these people? Why would they want to shatter their daughter? What did I ever do to them?

And how we're they planning on breaking my heart?

I held back the tears. This is what they wanted, and I promised myself, that they will never be satisfied.

"Wait, one more thing." I said slowly, turning to Kylee.

She gestured for me to go on.

"Why did you always flirt with other boys during your 'secret relationship' with Alex?" I asked curiously.

Suddenly, her eyes went dark with sadness.

"When your parents made that deal with me, I knew I had to keep my distance with my loved ones. I didn't want any of you to get hurt. I knew that Alex didn't deserve me after what I'd done. I knew you'd find out about the deal somehow, you always do. So I decided to be a slut in front of you, so when you'd find out, you'd leave me. I knew you were better off without me. And I also needed a reasonable excuse to break it off with Alex. I knew he wouldn't buy any other reason, we had both already fallen too deep for each other. So I knew you'd tell him too. But I only put up the acts in front of you, just to show you." She said, gazing out the window with sadness in her eyes.

"Oh my god. Kylee!" I cried out, gathering her up in my arms and holding her tight.

She put herself through all this, just for her two best friends?

"I have never seen anyone so loyal, in my life." I said honestly, looking her dead in the eyes.

"You and Alex would've done the same." Kylee shrugged it off.

"But it didn't happen to us." I said softly.

Then all of a sudden anger courses through me.

"Kylee, I swear on my life, I will put an end to this. I will make sure they won't blackmail you. And I also promise you, I will get Alex back with you." I said, meaning every single word.

She just stared back at me, then started crying.

What? What did I say?

"Kylee, what is it? I'm sorry! What did I say? Oh I'm such an idiot." I said, trying to find out what had slipped out of my mouth that had caused my best friend to suddenly cry.

She giggled and hiccuped at the same time, making a funny sound, and looked up at me, smiling.

"I don't know what I did to deserve a friend like you." She said, shaking her head.

"Same here." I said, raising my hand.

We both broke into a huge grin.

"Well, come on now, get up! We don't have all day!" I said enthusiastically, jumping to my feet and holding my hand out.

She looked up at me confused.

"Where are we going?" She asked slowly.

"YOU, my dear friend, are going to go tell Alex everything you told me, and win his heart back, while I, sit here and finish my movie so I don't have to sit through your make out session." I said, leading her down the stairs.

I looked back at her and pinched her red hot cheeks, at the mention of kissing Alex.

I opened the door and walked her across the road, to Alex's house.

I rang the doorbell and waited, humming the tune to mission impossible.

Kylee looked at me and raised an eyebrow.

I acted liked I hadn't seen, and then swung my hands up in a gun position and aimed it at her head, at the same time, the door swung open with a confused looking Alex.

I put my hands down and shrugged.

"Um, what's going on?" Alex asked confused, looking between Kylee and I, sending me very obvious messages through his eyes.

He can never be a spy, unlike me. See, I train for this stuff. In fact, I get the best training there is. I sit on the couch and watch a very skilled Tom Cruise for hours. The secret story of my life.

"Hello?" Alex asked to no one in particular, breaking the awkward silence between the two lovebirds.

"Kylee has something to say." I said to Alex.

He looked doubtful, but then I swung my arm around her shoulders to reassure him, and he knew something was up.

He hesitantly nodded and stepped aside, letting Kylee in.

"Well you two have fun, I gotta go finish watching some sexy piece of hunk also known as Tom Cruise." I said curtly, turning around and running across the road to my house before they could stop me and drag me into there relationship problems.

I really didn't want to be part of that...

I walked back into my house and started looking around for Jordan.

I had to get him back for running away from me and betraying me.

After looking basically everywhere, I gave up and went to my room to finish my movie.

Just as I was about to collapse onto my comfy bed, I heard the doorbell and groaned.

I reluctantly got up and answered the door.

I froze.

The man standing there looked strangely familiar.

"And you are...?" I asked, getting straight to the point.

"Your future family in law!" He said, grinning and opening up his arms.

I glanced behind him and widened my eyes.

Behind him, were about thirty plus people, all looking strangely familiar to Tyler in one way or another.

I swear I had a mini heart attack right there.

That little monster told his family!?

I'm not ready for this!

How will I tell all of them that this is all a lie. A plan?

The last thought I had before everything went black was that I was gonna kill Tyler when I woke up.

So, the day we were supposed to come back from Atlanta(jan.5), I forgot my ipad there.... I know, your all thinking, 'how can anyone forget an ipad!?'.. Well I can... But I blame it on the apple that I was getting at the last minute that caused me to put down my ipad!

Stupid apple.

Anyways, it took almost two weeks to get it back, and then I didn't have enough time to work on it for a long time, so I wrote as much as I could each day, since I had two major tests, a midterm exam, and a project,( I know, no excuses): ).. That's supposed to be a sad face btw.

So, I apologize for the delay, you may now throw those tomatoes or potatoes at me.

So let me know what you think, and I'll try to get the next chapter up quicker.

Ps: sorry if its short. Next chapter will be longer.
