Chapter Twenty Nine

-----------------------

Dedication: LostBubblegum for voting for so many of the chapters! Thank you!

Recap:

We rounded the corner, just as the bell buzzed, when I ran into Owen.

His eyes widened in surprise as he saw me. Neither of said a word and Marissa cleared her throat uneasily.

He reached out and grabbed my arm, pulling me after him.

"We need to talk."

---------------------

I felt a stir if nervousness as I stared into the eyes of the person who has obsessed over me for the past few months. The guy who tried relentlessly to ask me out and even force himself onto me.

"Sadie," Owen began, throwing his fingers through his dark hair, his eyes looking anywhere but at my face.

"Owen," I stated in a much firmer tone than he used, my eyes staring at his, waiting for them to meet mine.

"What happened at the party..." he trailed off, looking awfully uncomfortable. "I was completely out of line. I know being on drugs is no excuse but I wasn't myself that night. You have to know I would never do that to you."

"You did do that to me," I snapped.

He winced, looking down to the floor.

"I'm going to be late," I said with a sigh, moving around him.

"Look, I'm sorry, okay? I don't blame you for Isaac coming after me. I deserved it. I'm just... Sorry."

I didn't reply. I pulled my hand from his arm and walked to class, feeling a little shaken.

With my legs feeling like jelly, under the scrutinising gazes of my peers, I shakily slid into the plastic chair beside Marissa's. She sent me a sympathetic stare.

I hardly paid attention to the work we're meant to do, because I'm so far behind. I have no idea what topic we're even up to. Marissa slid her notebook over and I began to pour myself over it, trying to stick the information in my brain.

"Don't stress, we can go make photocopies at lunch," she assured me, noticing my panic-stricken face.

I just want to graduate but so many things are getting in my way. I don't know what I would do without Marissa helping me. I know her notes wouldn't be as good as mine would have been, but they will be helpful, nonetheless.

"Okay, thanks."

The next class, I had Biology. Unfortunately, Marissa isn't in this class with me. I hurried to get there, to try to speak with Miss Ashdown before class starts.

"Hello Sadie," Miss Ashdown greeted in surprise, her dark hair spilling down the side of her face, her fringe pushed back with a petite, red bow. "Welcome back."

"Thanks," I replied with a small smile. "I know I'm really far behind but I want to try to pass this class. Is there any way I can catch up with notes, or?"

"I can email you the notes I've handed out in class but it would be best to sit with someone who knows Biology well."

I frowned, not really wanting to sit next to anyone. Before I had time to interject, much to my horror, Miss Ashdown wandered over to Josh McCall. She leaned across his desk. I felt my cheeks flame.

Memories of Josh and I passionately making out in our drugged-bliss at the Splendour music festival, flashed in my mind. That was before I freaked out and began calling him Casey, thinking I had seen him in the crowd. Josh had been a dick ever since, therefore, the last person I want to sit with.

His dark eyes meet mine and I take a step back.

"Sadie," Miss Ashdown called. "Come take a seat with Josh. He has agreed to help you."

"It's fine," I replied bluntly.

She came over to me. "Josh is very good at Biology. He is first in the class. I think you will benefit a lot from him."

I inwardly groan and throw her a helpless glance as I trudge over to his desk, throwing down my book.

"Isn't it my favourite psycho," he sneered and I glared at him. "Kidding. Sorry, bad joke."

"Let's not make this any harder than it needs to be," I sighed.

"I'm sorry for how I've acted. Let's just put that behind us and get to work?"

I raised an eyebrow at him, surprised that he was actually being mature about this. I nod, opening my book and scribbling the date down in the top, right corner of the page.

Class dragged by and I had caught up a little. Josh's notes were very to the point and straight-forward, so it was easy to book-learn some of the things I've missed.

"We should meet up after school one day and go over some things? Our exams are coming up soon and you're not prepared."

I goggled at him for a moment. "Why do you want to help me?"

"Because even though I haven't shown it, I'm not a bad guy. I want to make up for the things I've said and done. I'm happy to help."

I blinked at him, his words slowly processing through my mind. "I guess that wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. And only because I need some serious help."

"Wow, talk about being enthusiastic," he rolled his eyes. "Tomorrow, after school?"

"I have therapy until 4:30 and I have support group Monday, Wednesday and Friday after therapy."

"Jesus," he muttered. "Okay, we can meet at 5, tomorrow?"

"5," I repeated, thinking of anything that could possibly conflict with that. "I think that should be alright."

He nodded. "See you then, partner."

I gave him a weird look as he bounded away, heading towards his friend group.

Instead of going to lunch, I headed straight to the library, where I'm meeting Marissa to photocopy her History notes.

We get there, roughly about the same time. She gives me a warm smile.

"How was class?"

"Very strange," I told her with a shake of my head. "You won't believe who is helping me catch up in Biology..."

"Still don't know why you take that horribly difficult class," Marissa shuddered. "But, who? I would guess Owen, but he isn't in that class."

"Josh," I whispered.

"Josh?" she echoed much louder. "As in the Josh who you have made out with on numerous occasions? The Josh who then-"

"We don't need to go down memory lane," I interjected, raising my hand. "But yes, that Josh."

"Well, have fun with that," is all she said, pulling out her book.

"Thanks," I replied sarcastically. "He actually seems helpful, for some reason. Maybe he's plotting something."

"Or maybe he feels bad and thinks he's the reason you went kind of crazy?" she suggested. "No offence."

I rolled my eyes. "Just start photo copying."

She began to photo copy pages of her book. I slid my bag to the ground, feeling hot in my coat. I tugged it off, folding it over my bag.

"I'm just going to grab a water. You want one?"

"Oh, yes please," she agreed. "It's stuffy in here, isn't it?"

I left her to her photocopying. I walked out from behind one of the many shelves of books, to see Amelia leaning against the wall. I hadn't seen her for quite some time. It had been nice while it lasted.

"It's okay, I understand," I heard her say into the phone, a bit of her brunette hair wrapped around her index finger. "I have missed you." I cocked my head to the side. "Okay, I'll see you tonight. I love you, Isaac."

Turning from her, I strode out of the library, my teeth gritted.

That two-timing, son of a bitch.

---------------------

What do you think about Josh helping Sadie out? Is this a good idea?

And what do you think about Isaac still seeing Amelia, the girl who has tormented Sadie?
