Chapter 57

"Where is the evidence?" Oreana asked leaping into action. It was a chaos, the voices all rolled into angry shouts of resentment. They have been wronged, but moreover they have been fooled.

Jerek met her halfway with my tablet in hand, his eyes wide and steps frantic, no one saw that coming and if we haven't taken the risk today then we would always have been in the dark.

The ones who were more controlled stepped forward to look into the evidence, they all stumbled closer and I was pulled along with them in a circle around Oreana and Jerek. Oreana's face was pinched in anger, her nose flaring like a fire breathing dragon and eyes glaring at the screen.

"What now?" Someone yelled out from somewhere in the crowd and the chatter started like a wave, droning the hall in a buzz.

I took a step forward, facing them, "we need to send these evidence to my brother, he is a lawyer he can more than exploit this in our favour," my voice rang in the hall hushing the unnecessary commotion.

"We can't send anything to anyone outside of Urydale, their system jams every signal," Yasmin spoke up to remind me. I nodded at her.

"But, I was able to send those documents to Kayden before," I was hesitant, I didn't know about their systems but I was still able to contact Kayden in the school.

"Where were you then?" Oreana spoke up, stealing my attention.

"At the school, near the teacher's office." I replied, turning to face her.

"You must have found a loop by accident. The only way to send these evidences is to find a loop and the station is the only place where the network is not jammed," She said in one breath and I took in a sharp breath. I can't go to the station again. We won't get out this time.

"Wait, I think I will be able to access one from here, the processor of this tablet is remarkable, the range can be stretched further and I will be able to get in the loop from here," Jerek rushed out and I gave a thankful sigh.

"We can send the documents from here?" I asked again, eager to get a confirmation.

"How long will it take?" Skye's voice asked from the crowd as he stepped inside the circle. I clenched my teeth and stepped back, shuffling to stand beside Yasmin.

"About 3 hours," Jerek replied.

"Okay then get started," Oreana patted Jerek on his back, he walked to step out of the crowd and received hugs of acknowledgement as he went. I smiled for a second as Jerek's face glowed as he basked in the grateful faces all around him.

"Listen up," Oreana clapped her hands twice and we directed our eyes and ears to her. "We need to stay here for three hours but not all of us can be here. It is almost time and we need to get the children back in their homes."

Everyone agreed at once, nodding their heads and murmuring their compliance.

"Who is going to stay then?"

"Twenty of us. Me, Zane, Skye, Ariel, Jerek, Terina, Ian, Yasmin, Mason..." Oreana called out the names and we stepped away from the crowd one by one as our names were called.

"So we are supposed to do nothing?" Someone called out in a thick baritone.

"No, you all need to keep your eyes and ears open, you all are our backup if anything goes wrong. But it won't, so you all can rest for some time," Oreana said and everyone dispersed with a goodbye.

I looked down at the concrete ground under my feet. I shifted slightly, bracing my arms on either side of me. We are sitting around the C shaped ramp, some are sitting, some are standing and Oreana is pacing. Twenty of us stayed behind, just to be cautious and the rest of us took the kids home safely.

Terina yawned from beside me, "It is 5:42, Jerek should hurry up, I didn't know I would have to sit in sweaty clothes when it is already so humid," she groaned and I chuckled looking up. My eyes clashed against Zane's, he was sitting at the other side of the ramp, my smile faded and I looked away quickly. I wasn't mad at him, not necessarily but I didn't feel like sitting next to him.

Skye was leaning on the wall beside the ramp, arms folded and leg propped back. I drew my eyes back to the concrete floor. I don't know where we will be after this. Colourless will have an identity. This town will probably empty and Ash will have a chance to be who he is.

And they will know about me too.

The thought felt like a lump in my throat, but I tried to swallow it. Ash will have a future and that is all I should concentrate on making true.

I stand up on my feet and walk in the empty hall. My steps echo n the tentative silence, there is faint chatter but the nervous energy is saturating the air. Some part of me is happy, proud that we-, they are goin to gain their freedom.

I checked my watch, 6:56 am. Jerek said almost three hours, he must be ready by now.

A loud bang screamed in te hall and I turned around in a frantic daze. My blood froze in my viens at what I saw.

Officers in azure uniforms.

"Stand up," an officer yelled, their steps heavy on the floor, drumming their arrival. I took a shaky step back as more started filling out of the door with guns pointed at our heads.

Zane and Oreana had their guns pulled out, aimed at 20, 30 officers all intoxicating the skate park.

"I said drop your guns," the same officer yelled again. A shot went off and I jumped at my spot. It was an empty sot fired at the ceiling, no one is hurt. But my eyes still scanned Zane, head to toe dressed in black.

They dropped down their guns and kicked them away. All the while glaring at the said officer.

"Lose the colour girl," the officer in front of me snapped, touching the gun on my forehead.

"Line them up," Kay's voice drew my attention to him. Of course he is going to be here, I gritted my teeth as he stared back at me, a smirk playing on his lips. I glared back at him.

Some officer pulled my arm, jerking me forward with a sudden push. I stumbled forward and then looked at the scene before me. Every one of us, Oreana, Zane, Skye, Ian, Terina, Yasmin, Samse.., everyone was made to kneel. They were lined up against the wall, with a gun resting against their heads.

I started walking on shaky legs as the officer pushed me again. Oreana was the first in the row, she was glaring fire at the officer, through the cold gun resting on her head. I passed her, trying to catch her eyes. Her eyes flicked to mine and she blinked before I was pushed forward. I blinked back. We need to borrow some time for Jerek.

They were all glaring daggers at the officers through the death resting on their heads, Zane, Yasmin, Terisa, Samse, all twenty of us.

I was walked to the end of the line, I turned around to comly. There are almost thirty officers here, all armed with a gun and their colour, there are 20 of us, all kneeling down but we do have the advantage of surprise.

"Good colours everyone," I snapped my head at the chalky voice. Sorin stepped in through the door, his sickly pale skin accented his black suit and the crooked smile. I inhaled sharply, why is he here? How did they know about this place? How did they know when we were here?

The answer was as simple as the day, someone was following us. Keeping an eye on this underground skatepark. And we were too distracted to be cautious.

"You bitch," Oreana spit out the words at Sorin, her face pinched red and teeth bared at him.

Sorin gave an eerie laugh in return, his mock echoing in the confused silence of the hall.

Oreana pushed up from her kneeling position and charged at him through the officers like a raging bull.

I watched as a knife shot through the air but before I could scream a warning it pierced Oreana's thigh. A muffled scream escaped her throat as he crumpled to the ground on her knees, a burnt silica yellow knife striking out of her thigh.

A scream logged in my mouth and I jerked off the officer holding me.

"Oreana," Skye yelled and I saw him attempt to stand up. Skye struggled against the two officers that were trying to hold him down, but Skye pushed him back, scrambling to stand in a desperation that hypnotised other officers to hold him back. An officer rammed his gun in Skye's head in a sharp thud of metal.

But the scream didn't escape my throat.

A thin drop of crimson slid down his cheek, Skye blinked repeatedly, he swung a little before Zane supported him. I clenched my jaw, grinding my teeth till my jaw ached. I looked away and turned my glare at Sorin, hoping to burn him alive with my stare.

"Where did you send her?" Oreana yelled in a breathily, her body shaking as he held her hands around her wound, blood flowed out coating her hands.

"Where is she?" Oreana screamed in a piercing cry, this time louder than before.

Oreana winced loudly after a second of silence, her lips wobbling. She took a sharp breath and sank lower on her knees. It took me a moment to realise that the knife was growing in size, stretching longer and stabbing deeper. My hands shook at the sight and I fought against my colours that were rippling at the edge from bursting out.

"Should have killed her before," An officer, the same one who was in the cell with Kay said as he cocked his head to the side. Twisting his outstretched hand as his eyes remained on the knife. My eyes narrowed at him and I clenched my fist, he is the one controlling the colour.

"Then why didn't you Jance?" Sorin's reply sent a shiver up my spine that crawled like a spider on my back. He didn't blink, he looked at Oreana's shaking form with hollow eyes.

Orena screamed again as she dipped to the side and slammed down on the ground. Her scream piercing through me like a shard of glass and the blood drained from my face.

"Stop it," I couldn't stop the scream this time.
