Chapter 65

"All we need to do is distract the officers while you both go to the monitor room," I said again for the third time. Maven gave me a nod, taping her foot repeatedly as we sat on the back of the nine-seater car from Kayden's office. The car was parked in the open parking lot, but we were still sitting in.

Beckett sat beside Mave, he pushed his arm through the sleeve of the jersey Kayden had loaned him. He winced, face twisted in pain as the wound on his shoulder blade stretched, my eyes fixated on the soaked napkin wrapped around his shoulder. It was tightly wound and still dripping blood.

He had received that wound while trying to save me, what if it gets infected? I shook my head at the thought. We don't have time.

Maven took off her cap and passed it to Beckett, a soft expression on her face as she gently placed it on his head of curly brown hair. Together they looked inconspicuous, ready to blend in with the crowd.

I looked out of the tinted windows, the crowd has thinned to the maximum, there was barely anyone left anymore. This means that the game has started, and the officer has probably left the parking lot to manage the crowd.

"Okay, lets go," I said and pushed open the back door of the car. I jumped out in a swift movement, immediately my legs groaned in fatigue. I shifted to the side and made way as everyone filled out of the car.

The game was like a carnival, the atmosphere thrumming with a static. I can hear the nostalgic cheer of the crowd, they are playing. We kept our head down and blended in with the crowd, entering the youthful stadium with the rest of the crowd.

Sorin's men will be in the crowd, and the problem is that they are alerted and they know what we look like. But we don't have the same advantage. And as we get closer I am starting to doubt if the documental proof will be enough to prevent these officers from arresting, or better yet executing us on the spot.

My original plan was to bring out the colourless in the light.....

"You see there, they handle the cameras and what is displayed on half of the screens, so if we make a good disturbance here in the crowd then they may point it at us,"

"So?" Carlie chuckled from behind me, I gritted my teeth at her mockery.

"So, you all will be displayed on 50 inch wide screens while using your pigmentless colour,"

"What makes you think that it won't bother Sorin and he won't send his men to shoot us on spot,"

"He can't do that in a crowd Ian," I smirked slightly, at least I hope he won't.

"Then let's create a commotion," Rhodes rubbed his hands together, a wicked grin on his face.

"We might not have to worry about that too much," Yasmin muttered and sure enough three guards were making their way towards us.

"Not here, we need to be as far from the monitor room as possible," I hissed, jumping to my feet.

"We need to separate, Rhodes, Carlie, Trisa, Jastin and Mel, stay in a group," Zane said and they immediately separated from us. They climbed the steps of the bleachers and shuffled to the 4th row after a nod.

We moved through the packed crowd of annoyed audience. I blocked out the angry protests and pushed my way after Yasmin. We are getting cornered, the officers following us have doubled in number, no longer trying to remain silent as they rudely pushed people away. My eyes darted around the stadium, we were getting pushed to the VIP gallery where Sorin will be with the other board members.

I tugged on Yasmin's shirt and pulled her with me to the stairs. I took short breaths as I jumped over the tall stairs, my breath growing heavier with the movement. I jolted in my steps and stumbled back a little, a hand on my lower back steadying me. Three officers had appeared at the top of the stairs, all buff and scowling as they stepped down.

My eyes darted around in alarm, searching for an exit. The hand placed on my back pushed me forward, making space as Zane stepped beside me.

This is the place to start the commotion.

We were too close to the VIP gallery, any closer and it will attract the participation of more officers, real officers.

"They won't start shooting with the public here," I whispered as they advanced on us. Cause a disturbance, show then the invisible colour. It should be simple.

One of the officers raised his palm, spreading his fingers then clenching it. A gust of colour passed over us and I spun around. A khaki coloured shield stood behind us, erect and looming. My eyes widened as panic started seeping in when another was deposited at our left.

They are going to trap us here.

It seems to have clicked because everyone leapt into motion. The officer stumbled back and random objects started shooting at them. One of them swept his shield out and the other formed navy blue blades. People started jumping from their seats in panic and many shields were rasing around in multiple colours. Boxes of popcorn flew at the officers and we rushed to move when they were distracted.

Ian and Yasmin were in front of me and she threw her hands in swipes, raising random things in the air as we stumbled across people.

"Duck," Zane yelled and pulled my arm harshly, making me fall back on the ground with him. The guy on the seat was holding his hands up, forming a large curved shield. Sweat trickled down his forehead and he locked eyes with me, wide in panic.

Ian jumped to his feet and moved his hands, suddenly Yasmin was flying through the air, like taking a leap over the air.

"We need to separate," Ian said back at us and thrust his hands down, in the next second he was afloat. And then I saw Yasmin at the distance, pulling Ian in her direction.

Another hit and the shield crashed, splitting to pieces before disappearing. Zane pulled my arm and we sprinted, jumping over the seats. Losing my balance I crashed in a seat, an unbearable pain shooting up my shoulder on the impact.

I stumbled back when a spear tore through a seat, splitting it into two before disappearing. Zane pulled my arm and I fell back to where he was crouching down between two seats. My heart was pounding loudly in my ears and I looked around. People were shouting, running from their seats, and putting up their shields. It was a total chaos that was slowly starting to spread.

No, no, no. It was not supposed to be like this.

A shadow fell over me and I snapped my eyes up, a metal door was hanging above our heads, sloping to the side.

"Zane, Ariel, come on," Rodes yelled from the last stair, near the ground. He was with four others fending off officers. A thud and repeated clank resonated on the metal door. I looked at Zane beside me, he was leaning on one knee, jaw clenched as he observed from under the shield. I know what he was thinking, they are planning to kill us.

"We need to fight, just till Maven and Beckett release the evidence" Zane whispered locking eyes with me. I nodded and took a deep breath, conjuring my wine red around my arms. A zap of adrenaline shot through me when Zane yelled at Rhodes to drop the door.

There were four officers at the top of the stairs, aiming weapons at us. Zane shifted the door smoothly and blocked the spears. I materialized ten throwing stars out of thin air and aimed at the officers. They immediately put up a shield. This is just like AceCrest, they have defenders and offenders but... we have a colourless and they are just petty criminals who know nothing about teamwork.

He brought the shield down to let the offenders and I swiped my stars, all aiming at their defender. He stumbled back, rapidly making shields to block stars coming from all directions. Zane extended the door before and the view was blocked. A spear tore through the thick metal door, three inches past it. That was close.

Cards floated around us, increasing in number. Zane gave me a look and I nodded. He threw the door at the officers, it fell with a loud bang and we took the advantage, leaping into action.

The officers fumbled, they didn't know where the cards were coming from or where to put the shields. The cards slithered their way, cutting officers while I kept their attention with my small knives.

I glanced at the corner of my eyes as Carlie and Rhodes climbed on a seat beside me. "Done with them, blow to the head," Rhodes yelled as he aimed two metal poles at the officers.

Knocking them out is our best option now.

I withdrew and swept a look around, my heartbeat skyrocketing. We were standing closer to the VIP booth then I had thought, officers were piling around them to stand in defence. I shifted my eyes to the screens, any minute now.

A man pushed aside the guards, knocking them to the side as he made his way out of the booth, ginger hair swept to the side to cover half of his face.

He started walking towards us and our eyes locked. Lilac purple colour started emerging out of him in ribbons, wrapping together into saber toothed tigers. I took in a shuddering breath as they started increasing in number.

"Ian, Yasmin," I yelled at the top of my lungs. This doesn't look good, creators are considered weaker in comparison because they can neither defend nor attack. But the elongated teeth of these prowling tigers are glinting like freshly sharpened knives.

Yasmin and Ian engaged the beasts and I stole a quick glance at everyone else. Not many officers were left standing. I jumped on the seats below and changed lanes. I launched three blades at the man, all aimed straight. A saber tooth sprung in the air, swallowing the knives with a single jump. My eyes widened, the knives didn't pass through it, they got stuck in the lilac colour. My eyes widened and I gave my colour a tug, pulling back my knives, I jerked my hand again.

It was like my colour was stuck there, I could feel a part of me kept in a bottle, the link between my colour strained as I tried to pull harder. What is happening. Cold sweat broke down my neck as I locked eyes with the ginger again.

"Zane," I called and flung three more blades at him, curved like a boomerang. They surpassed the saber tooth and circled around it. The man raised his hand a ball of lilac swallowed the blades with a single swipe. I clenched my fist and jerked back. He was looking at me with amusement.

What has Sorin created?

I assembled a group of ten ninja stars in a queue and flung them at him, swinging them in different directions. He swept his arm and a wave of lilac enveloped my stars with a single strike. My throat dried out and the ache in my body was starting to drain me. It felt like I was being pulled from different sides, my colour captured by another.

A flock of cards swished past my head and I saw ginger lose his cool for a minute. He shifted back, eyes flitting around to locate the cards swinging around him.

'Colourless do not belong in our words, they are a pest.....' I jumped at the sudden voice and my eyes immediately snapped to the screens. Scenes were playing out on each screen, all different. One had officers brutally beating some people, others had Sorin growling at the crowd. All were shot at weird angles, they were recordings of everything that has happened in Urydale. Not just the proof we collected. More than half of the stadium was still full, they were cramped on the other side, eyes glued to the screens as Sorin whipped a man bloody or an officer kicking a child. One had officers interrogating a family.

A flash of lilac and my eyes snapped to the colour launched at the screens, turning into a rhino with a large horn, sprinting in the air. I swiped my hands and an electric blue shield cut through the rhino, disintegrating the lilac colour. It moulded again and I expanded my shield, blood thrumming in my ears as the heaving in my lungs increased, slowly leeching my energy.

"It is over Sorin," I screamed at the booth, officers were parting, turning around to face the cowering criminal.

"Ariel look-," I didn't have the time to process Zane's words before something slammed into me, it clinched around my waist. Thick sharp talons squeezing the breath out of my lungs as the land below my feet disappeared. The abnormally large creature launched into the air, the force of the flight slamming into me as a scream ripped through my throat. The stadium grew distant, my senses numbed.

Fear was slowly seeping in as the air was sucked out of the lungs, the creature was flapping its wings, but I can see it slowly disintegrating like smoke. Clear blue sky.

And then I was released, like a drop sliding down a leaf blade. My eyes fluttered close, cool wind soothing my overheated body. My muscles paralysed as I fell, hair knitting across my face, wind biting at my flesh. With the weightlessness cocooning my body I could only form one question.

What is happening?

Delicate ribbons of colour were shooting out of me, like liquid spilling out of a broken glass. Threads of blue, red and purple are floating around me, knitting together like a wisp of smoke of an incense stick. Why? They were reaching out, trying to grasp at something. What?

My whole life I have been told to never show my colours, to entrap them, suppress them. So why are they here, spilling out of me without my permission?

I am falling.

My eyes snapped open at the realisation, I am falling down. I will die. I am falling through a clear sky. Feet above the stadium building. I am free-falling to my death.

At this height no one will be able to save me, no creator's colour can reach me here and if they try to catch me on a shield my bones will turn to power when I will make contact. They cannot save me.

Only I can save myself. I clenched my fists, pulling the colour closer together to take shape, it moulded together, a streamlined body with tender claws catching me. A sense of safety enveloped me when the claws of my creation held me, all of my colours swirling around. The wings formed and with a gust of air the creature opposed the fall.

It was working, with each clap of its wings the speed was decreasing. But so was my energy.

The colour was slowly chipping away, the head disappearing the more I used my colour. I need to hold on.

The wings started getting loose, thinning as we went lower and lower. A little longer. I tried to breathe, tried to fight the black spots slowly dotting my vision. I need to stay awake.

But with every breath that refused to enter my lungs, the blue sky was getting cloaked in darkness...

The end...
