"From my experience, the prettier the girl is, the more nuts she is, which makes you absolutely insane." - Blue Valentine

The bass of the music rocked my entire being from side to side. I don't know how I ended up at a party, but here I was with Autumn's freshly painted black nails digging into the flesh of my skin while we maneuvered around the cluster of people.

The smells of alcohol and weed was evident in the air. Intoxicated kids stumbled all over the place, spilling their booze out of those famous red solo cups. It was almost amusing, but my headache wasn't.

"I'm pretty sure I've got contact high," Haden slurs, taking another sip of his drink before Derek snatches it away.

The team was celebrating another win. The season was going really smoothly and recruiters were even starting to show up to some of the games.

"I think you've had enough, buddy. Let's get you into the couch," Derek murmurs softly, moving a giggling Haden to an empty chair while Autumn rolled her eyes in annoyance.

I think he got drunk to make her mad on purpose. She'd specifically told him not to and he went out and did it anyways. It was like he liked making her mad and she liked being mad.

"I'll take care of him," Autumn grunts, going to sit by Haden and taking a sip of her own drink in annoyance. She thought I couldn't see the smirk starting to form into her face when he rested his head in her lap and wrapped his arms around her.

"They're annoying," Derek concluded, dumping his own beverage out into the sink once we walked away from them. We now rested on the counters of the kitchen, watching drunk people make stupid mistakes that wound undoubtedly keep them up late at night.

"When haven't they been annoying?" I laugh, taking a sip of my water.

Derek didn't drink because he simply didn't like it and I didn't drink because, well, alcohol didn't mix well with the many meds I was on.

He grins at me, letting his dimples pop out momentarily before his eyes go back to watching the mess of teenagers before us.

"I'm surprised you're not doing that," he points to the ongoing game of beer pong on the other side of the room and I shake my head.

"No? You used to be a pro at that shit," he smirks at the memory and I grin in return.

"I'd still be a pro at it, just not my type of fun anymore," I answer, rubbing my hand subconsciously up my arm.

"You cold?" he questions, already shrugging off his jacket before I could even answer.

"Oh, I-I'm not-"

"Take the damn jacket, Angel. Your skin is turning blue so I know you're cold." When I wrap myself in the jacket that's much too big for me, he smiles pleased at me.

Stubborn jerk always has to get what he wants.

"I think you're part smurf," he concludes with a slight laugh while I scowl at him.

"I'm not! I just have sensitive skin, or whatever you want to call it." I throw my hands up in the air while he just laughs harder at me.

"You're just little and cu-"

"Hey Derek!" A red head interrupts whatever he was going to say and we turn our attention to her.

"Hey Becky!" he says, casting a glance at me before turning back to her again.

From the way she's leaning into him, I can already tell she likes him. I wonder if they've got something going on. I guess I couldn't really be mad if they did.

"You wanna go over there? I have something to show you!" She takes his hand before he could even answer and drags him out of my sight.

I let out a sigh, pulling his jacket tighter against me. Some bitch literally just stole my man right in front of me. Right now, fresh air was exactly what I needed.

Hopping off the counter, I immediately navigate through the crowd to get to the door.

I pass a Becky that's practically sitting in Derek's lap. Her red hair blocks his face and I have to suppress the gag. If Autumn were here, she'd yank her off.

Once I go outside, I immediately feel better. The chill of the wind on my face has me already feeling amazing. Instead of hearing the music, I feel the vibrations of the beat underneath my feet.

I can't help but think about everything. Derek deserved Becky, he truly did. If they're together, that's great! Why do I care? I don't have the right to care!

Why am I practically talking to myself? Oh, probably because I have no one else to talk to. I let out a humorless laugh at how absolutely pathetic my life is right now.

Why am I actually having a conversation with myself? I should go in there, and yank Becky off his lap by that ugly ass hair.

Whirling around, I slam right into the chest of someone else.

"Oops, I'm so sorry!" I gasp, my hands flying up to cover my mouth as I stare at the guy who has whatever drink he was drinking on him.

Wow, I'm literally a walking disaster.

"It's fine, I swear," he laughs, his blonde hair sparkling in the moonlight while I let out a laugh that sounds more like a wince.

He's telling me it's fine when I'm the reason he's drenched and probably sticky.

"I-I'd offer to clean you up but all I have is hand sanitizer and I can't just lather you in hand sanitizer, because that would be weird- ok, I should probably stop talking now," I laugh another humorless laugh while he grins even harder at me.

I can feel the furious blush settling over my face and all I want to do is run and scream. How have I managed to make everything turn out horrible tonight?

"Honestly, relax. It's fine. I'm Connor by the way, I go to the rival school. You guys kind of kicked my ass tonight," he laughs, breaking the ice and I immediately feel my muscles relax.

"I heard you all put up a fight, though!"

The door behind us slams and I see Derek step out, his smile faltering when he sees Connor and I talking.

"Hey, I was looking all over for you!" Derek greets me, pretending that Connor isn't even there.

"Yeah, I've been keeping her company," Connor intrudes and I immediately cringe.

Oh God.

"I'm sorry, who even are you?" Derek asks, finally giving the boy attention and I grimace again.

"Connor, this is Derek and Derek, this is Connor," I introduce and while Connor smiles, Derek's icy glare remains on his face.

"Yeah, well, I'm just going to go. See you around, -"

"Angelina," I finish for him, smiling.

"Right, goodnight Angel," he smiles stepping away while Derek's glare gets even more evil.

"Her name is Angelina to you!" he practically shouts and I stare at him in bewilderment.

What the hell has gotten into him? Becky must've worked him up or something because by the look on his face, he could kill someone.

"Let's go look for Haden and Autumn," he sulks, returning into the house and not even waiting on me.

Someone's in a bad mood.

When we walk back into the space where all the other drunk people are, I frown when I notice Autumn and Haden aren't where I left them. The couch is empty.

I turn to Derek and see him frowning too. Where the hell could these two have gone?

"Hey, do you know where Autumn and Haden went?" Derek asks some boy and the boy points to some room upstairs.

We nod and start to walk up there, Derek's hand grazing the small of my back while we trudge up the stairs.

Derek approaches the door first, twisting the nob but immediately slamming it once he sees what's inside. He turns around, his face turning pale as he does so.

"Let's go back downstairs, yeah?" he says, trying to pull me with him but I move my hand.

"I did not just walk up all those stairs for us to not get those two." I reach for the door, Derek's hand trying to pull me back but it's too late.

I open it and immediately regret it, seeing activity that surely belongs on pornhub.

"Oh daddy-"

I slam the door immediately, turning around with my own pale face while Derek gags, trying desperately not to throw up.

"For fucks sake," I mutter, racing down the stairs, trying to get as far away from that room as I possibly can.

Derek runs after me, and we only stop when we're outside that Godforsaken house.

Then Derek starts laughing. Not a chuckle, not a giggle, but a full blown laugh. He leans back, placing his hand over his chest as the laughs rumble from his chest.

"What is so funny? We just witnessed some 50 Shades of Grey shit!" I screamed, pushing my hair out of my face which only makes him laugh harder.

"I tried to stop you, but you're Curious George ass just had to see what was behind the damn door," he laughs harder, his whole body shaking with it.

"Oh God, your face!" he laughs even harder, and before I know it, I've joined him.

My own laughter shakes my body until I fall into the grass next to him. It's just he and I under the stars, dying in our own fit of laughter.

I'd like to take a moment to speak to you about Jesus Christ.
