Why cannot I simply write my poetry,
Not subject them to analysis,
Checking rhymes and syllable counts,
At times writing the poem is a near miss.

Time poured into all that extensive research,
Poetic forms and styles and metre,
A thesaurus is my companion,
As I attempt to write verse a bit neater.

And despite all my deep analysis,
In the end, the poem is what it is.
