; spring 2017 mixtape

         Hello...it me.

I know, it's been like a thousand years since I've been even mildly active on Wattpad but my semester is almost over and just. Things will pick up. I swear. My promises are next to meaningless at this point I'm sure but don't worry, my guilt for not updating frequently is over the moon, so I'll probably put aside all my homework and finish the next Elf Bites chapter soon just to stop feeling guilty.

Anyway. Here's my spring 2017 mixtape! I haven't made one of these in a while because I recently got a new radio for my car that lets me use an aux cord to hook my phone up, so I haven't needed any more CD's. But I'm going to make this mixtape for you anyway just to update you on what I've been listening to if for some reason y'all care.

So, let's get to it, shall we?

01: JUDAS by Lady GaGa

Look, I know what you're thinking. That it's been eons since this song came out so why is it in this mixtape? Well, you see, I literally have not heard it until recently. As in, until the Hillywood Show released their parody of Suicide Squad using a rewritten version of this song. If it were possible to buy or download (legally) Hillywood's version, that's the song that would be on this mixtape. But alas, it is not. Also if you haven't watched their parody (or any of their parodies), you definitely should. I'll put the video above.

02: ISSUES by Julia Michaels

This is my jam. It's also so relatable, am I right? I'm a big fan of her voice and the tune in general, and an acoustic version was recently released, and I'm also super into that. I possibly like it more than the regular version, I don't know.

03: I WOULDN'T MIND by He Is We

This is definitely an oldie but a goodie. I have loved this song for so long, so I had to include it in this mixtape to celebrate its hella belated official release (since the band is getting back together!!!). Seriously, it's very cute and a very nice tune, and I think anyone who hears it will enjoy it, so please give it a listen.

04: ROCKABYE by Clean Bandit, Sean Paul, and Anne-Marie

A little late jumping on this bandwagon too. In my defense, when this song was becoming popular the entire One Direction fandom was rallying together to get "Just Hold On" to number one, and all I know is that we were fighting tooth and nail against this song, so I refused to listen to it. I literally only heard it for the first time less than a week ago. Now that it isn't keeping actual sun Louis Tomlinson and his partner in crime Steve Aoki from their deserved number one spot on the charts, I really like it! I love that it's about single moms, and it's catchy as heeeeck.

05: NOW OR NEVER by Halsey

You all know how much I love our angsty mom. Watching the music video for this felt like watching a modern retelling of Romeo and Juliet, but I'm excited to learn what the rest of the album will bring us. My suspicion is that there are three houses and not just two? Purely because the album title is three words. But yeah, I do like the song, although I wished I liked it a little more. It reminds me of "Coming Down" from Badlands, which I liked but I didn't love, you know?

06: GALWAY GIRL by Ed Sheeran

This will not be the only Ed Sheeran song on this list, just so you all know. And I won't say much because I've already posted a review of the entire album, but just know that this song is everything. Everything.

07: HATE TO LOVE YOU by Karmin

Who forgot Karmin existed? Me. Who really enjoys the album that this song is on now that they finally encountered it? Also me. Who knew they put out such quality pop music? Like, it's actually so good, and this isn't anywhere near their only good song on that album. In their previously popular songs I feel like we got a lot more of the girl's voice over the guy's, but here the guy has his own part and I really dig his voice. This is a good'un, folks.

08: GATEWAY DRUG by Bebe Rexha

Okay, who else is into Bebe Rexha? Anyone? She's literally so good and so talented and this song is a jam. Also, she's someone you should be paying attention to because rumor has it that when the "part two" of her album drops, there's a track on it that features Louis. But yeah, "Gateway Drug" is possibly my favorite on "part one." The blank leads to blank leads to blank in the chorus...A+.

09: DIGITAL LOVE by Digital Animal Farm and Hailee Steinfeld

Did I find this song because Louis tweeted about it? Yes. And thank god I did, because what a tune? I love Hailee Steinfeld in general – her voice is my everything – but actually my favorite part of this entire song is the music break after every chorus. But it's cute and relatable, especially for people who are in long distance relationships and communicate via technology. I just love it a lot.

10: AMERICAN GIRLS by ONE OK ROCK

I found this song by accident on YouTube when I meant to click on a different related video to whatever I had been currently watching, but my fingers slipped and the audio for this song began playing instead. I thank God for the little things, people. I'm such a big fan of this song. It sounds a lot like the music I used to listen to, like a certain era of All Time Low possibly, and it takes me way back even though it's relatively new. Also, fun fact: ONE OK ROCK is a Japanese rock band! Like, how cool? I absolutely wouldn't have known that had I not looked them up on Google Images.

11: OH L'AMOUR by Erasure

This is also an old song that I never heard until very recently. I actually found it while perusing a Sephora. First of all, it made excellent background shopping music. Second of all, for some reason it didn't sound to me like it was an old song? I literally just thought it was some new indie track by probably a new indie artist who only gets airplay in makeup store playlists. But yeah, no, I've never whipped out my Shazam app so fast.

12: SOMETHING JUST LIKE THIS by The Chainsmokers and Coldplay

I absolutely adore this song. I think it's so pretty a la Coldplay, but then it has that signature Chainsmokers sound as well. When I first saw their collab on Spotify I don't know how I felt about whether they'd be able to combine their sounds to make a genuinely good song, but they've done it.

13: ANYTHING'S POSSIBLE by Lea Michele

I've been a big fan of Lea Michele since before her first album, obviously (show of hands for fellow Glee fans). And then I loved her first album so much – the sound of it had me constantly feeling like I was watching a daytime downpour from inside the safety of a building or vehicle with lots of glass windows so that I can see outside, and I love that feeling because I love rain. Also her song about Cory Monteith makes me ugly cry every time. So you can imagine my excitement when I found out she was making new music again. "Anything's Possible" has me highly anticipating whatever she puts out next.

14: LONDON by Maty Noyes

This song is bizarre but I love it. I'm not even really sure what to say about it, I just know that the first time I heard it I thought it was weird, and then the second time I was like, "Alright, this is kinda cool," and now I'm straight obsessed. If you're looking to get into something new, look no further.

15: NANCY MULLIGAN by Ed Sheeran

I'm constantly torn between whether I think this is the best song on Divide or "Galway Girl" is, but regardless of the correct answer, I just know that the love I have for "Nancy Mulligan" is a different love than what I have for "Galway Girl," and they both know no bounds. You already know how I feel about this song, so I won't go on.

16: ONE WAY TICKET by ONE OK ROCK

I'm including this track because it is a Larry song if I ever did hear one. Seriously. The first time I heard it I was going through their entire album, listening to the tracks one by one, and I wasn't even looking to make any of them Larry songs. I didn't have to when this song came on. It made itself a Larry song. And sure, that's probably what makes me love it so much, but also it's cute and nice and wonderful and you should all listen to it.

17: IT AIN'T ME by Kygo and Selena Gomez

I loved this song from the moment I first heard it. I knew it would be amazing, I knew Selena was going to sound great, and I knew Kygo would do something to it that made me feel as if it were summer already. That's my favorite thing about Kygo – essentially any song by him that you listen to makes you feel like you're trap in an endless summer. The best part about that is that it doesn't actually feel like summer on the outside, so you're not drenched in sweat and stuff. But yeah, the chorus in this song is gold.

18: BLOW YOUR MIND (MWAH) by Dua Lipa

I think this song is old news as well, but here I am, only just hearing it for the first time very recently. Dua Lipa has been linked to Louis recently, I believe, which is probably why I looked her up and clicked her most popular song to check out, but I'm glad I did. I enjoy this a lot; it has a little something different than the average pop song has, and I'm into it.

19: NO MORE SAD SONGS by Little Mix and Machine Gun Kelly

You already know how much I love this song and Little Mix in general, but I wanted to include it because I'm digging this re-release with MGK. I won't lie and say I know loads about him and have heard a lot of his music, but I loved him in "Bad Things" and I love him here (he's also weirdly attractive in the music video?).

20: SIGN OF THE TIMES by Harry Styles

The fact that I just typed his solo name is not a thing I was expecting to ever do in this lifetime aldihlishglhsdgk... Sorry, okay, I'll keep it together. This is a FIRST LISTEN REVIEW AND I LIED I CAN'T KEEP IT TOGETHER YOU GUYS I STARTED BAWLING. "Sign of the Times" is a masterpiece from the word go. We get so much more of his falsetto, which we were lucky to glimpse in "Home," and then like...the opening lines, which are a refrain of some sort as well...I love those. Those are beautiful lines. And although at first listen I couldn't catch all of the lyrics, by the end I was just crying? Like my body, my brain, knew it was a mourning song of sorts, that it was a sad thing, and boom – tears. As of now the lyric that keeps getting me is "we could meet again somewhere" which is SO. SAD. Okay, this isn't an album review, so I'll be done, but just know that Harry has singlehandedly altered the world with this song. Anyone sleeping will wake to a different world they fell asleep in.

Well, there you have it. I am typing this through tears after Harry's new song, and I'm feeling a lot of things right now (one of them being nausea – in the best way, of course), but I'm glad I've gotten through it. This will be getting posted just moments after "Sign of the Times"'s official debut, which is apparently how I'll be keeping track of time now.

I hope you find something you like in this playlist/mixtape as it's kind of a mess of old and new, but if you only give one song out of all of these a chance, you know which one I'm going to suggest. SIGN OF THE TIMES. SIGN OF THE TIMES.

Bye, y'all. I need to recover.
