Chapter 10

"Come on Papyrus! Push yourself! Are you a Royal Guard or not!?" Undyne shouted, encouraging in her own way. What they all had meant earlier didn't match up with what Kaya was doing now. She sat on a nearby bench in the gym, the destination after the run, a note app open on her phone. She was putting down how many push ups, sit ups, etc., each of the three could do and how long it took to do however many was the goal. This one was 75, and both Undyne and Uncle Papyrus had near times. Cypress, however, was slacking. Although, he hadn't been training as long as either Papyrus or Undyne.

Kaya chuckled softly. The Royal Guard had disbanded when they had gotten to the surface and were safely settled in to the nearby town.

While she was in thought, her brother came up to her unnoticed, having finally finished and was taking a break before continuing.

"Kaya?" he asked, sweat dripping from his skull. "Are you alright?"

"Huh?!" she said, surprised. "Oh, I'm fine. Why are you asking?" She asked him back, brushing aside a loose strand of brown hair.

"You're pale," Cypress replied. "And I mean more pale than you usually are," he quickly added.

"I'm sure it's just the light," Kaya replied, twitching the tip of her tail. Besides being apparently paler than she normally is, she did start to feel a bit light-headed, and she was sitting down.

"I can tell when you're lying." Her brother looked her straight in the eye.

"I mean it, Cypress. I'm... fine!" She grabbed on to Cypress's arm, the closest thing to the bench she was sitting on; there were no walls on the sides, just the one behind.

"Sis!" Her brother cried out. By now, both Undyne and Uncle Papyrus suspected something was up and came to help.

"HUMAN!" Papyrus said out of habit. "IS SOMETHING THE MATTER?!" "Are you alright, punk?" Undyne asked at the same time. Kaya leaned into her brother while they had her stand up. The ground spun and the edges of her vision started going dark. Her body drooped with exhaustion, making it heavy and hard to move fluidly, and her ears started ringing.

"You have a terrible fever," she barely heard Cypress say. She felt herself being pulled into another's arms. She didn't know who's exactly it was, but she guessed it was Uncle Papyrus'; his voice sounded near but she only caught snippets of what he said.

"BROTHER... SICK... OVER HERE, LAZYBONES!"

Despite her uncle trying his best to keep her in his grasp and to speak on the phone at the same time, Kaya felt herself slowly sliding toward the floor, exhaustion overcoming her.

Soon enough she felt a sudden cold come over her, either from the floor or her dad had come and had teleported. She sensed his voice, and possibly multiple voices, speaking to her, but she didn't hear their words, so she knew it was the latter. That was the last thing she knew before she completely passed out.
