Chapter 12
A few days passed and Kaya had yet to get better and break her fever. She had many visits, but they gave her headaches after talking and listening for so long. While she was sleeping, someone would put the ice pack in the freezer and replace it with another. Sarisk and Papyrus were always a pleasure to have as company.
Uncle Papyrus would babble on and on about whatever until she fell asleep, and never mentioned about how she slept through one of his many great stories when she was awake. It was as though that was what he had planned to do.
Sarisk would come in during one of Papyrus' stories and sleep beside Kaya, not minding that she was sick or think that he himself could get sick. Then again, he was fully human so it wouldn't affect him as much if he caught it. It would just be a simple flu for him.
Jenny never bothered to come and see how Kaya was doing. She knew Cypress' girlfriend was in the house because Kaya could just faintly hear her voice whenever the others were talking to each other.
This sickness seemed to be a larger toll on Kaya than it does even for skeletons. With the fever refusing to go away and it rising instead of falling, her parents and Ms. Toriel had to resort to much stronger medicine.
Eventually, Frisk decided to call in a doctor, for the fever had gotten dangerously high, and nothing was working anymore.
The report was not so good.
The doctor said that Kaya seemed to be refusing to get better, that it was her own fault that her body was refusing the medicine and was getting worse. Her skin was already about as white as her bones in her skeletal form, but it really showed when she stared, horrified, at her parents after they had relayed what the doctor had said and shifted furiously between her two forms. There seemed to be no difference in color.
What is to happen to me?!
...am I going to die?
