Chapter Forty Four (FINAL CHAPTER)
----------------------
Dedication: Dysanic for the amaaaazing cover!
Recap:
Faith,
I'm sorry I couldn't get the school to let you go to the formal. So, I'm bringing the formal to you.
After you put the dress on and are ready, card two is in the bathroom.
I look forward to seeing you soon.
Love always,
Xavier.
The tears I had been holding it burst from my eyes and fall down my cheeks.
He was so sweet. I had no idea he was doing any of this.
Looks like I was wearing the dress of my dreams, too.
---------------------
After crying like a baby, for longer than I care to admit, I rushed into the bathroom to shower.
With excited, jittery butterflies, which I haven't felt in some time, dancing around inside my stomach, I quickly did my hair and makeup. I wandered back out to my bed and stared down at the red dress that laid in front of me.
It was truly captivating.
Xavier has continued to amaze me. For someone I deemed as careless, arrogant and narcissistic when I first met him, he has proven, time and time again how compassionate, caring and thoughtful he truly is.
He's amazing and I am so lucky to have found someone like him, to share my life with.
Carefully sliding the dress over my body, I held my breath the material fell down to the floor. I glanced down, biting my lip, gazing at the shiny, dress that now wrapped my body. It was a classic, low neck dress that cut a little lower than something I usually would wear (trust Xavier to pick a dress that shows off my cleavage). It gathered at my waist, enunciating my petite figure, before flowing to the floor.
Beside the dress, was a pair of silver stilettos. Maybe, I would reach above Xavier's shoulders now.
The shoes slid on and fit my feet perfectly. I grabbed the silver clutch that was also placed there and let my fingers run over the glitter.
I felt like I had been withdrawn from my life and transported into a dream. This was like a fairy tale.
I walked, a little wobbly at first, into my bathroom. I flicked the light on and stared at my reflection.
The stilettos made me look much taller. My hair was curled and cascaded down my shoulders. The red of the dress matched the vibrancy of my hair perfectly. It was as though this dress was made for me. It honestly couldn't fit better.
Slowly, I edged toward the outside of the shower cubicle and plucked the next clue from the glass pane.
Faith,
You look amazing. I don't need to have my eyes on you, to know that.
Go out the front.
See you soon,
Xavier.
My stomach felt giddy as my eyes wandered over his cursive writing. I let out a little squeal, before grabbing my last-minute essentials. I took my time down the stairs, careful not to fall head over heels. That would be an embarrassing end to the night.
As I walked out my front door, my jaw almost hit the ground.
My previous manager, Oliver, stood there, his hand resting on my favourite horse's head, as he rubbed him gently.
Did I mention that there was also another horse and they were both in front of a harness? As in... a horse and carriage?
Now this really is a fairy tale.
"Oh my God," I whispered as I walked, slightly in a daze, towards the horse and carriage.
"Hey Faith," he greeted, giving me a polite smile. When I quit working for the stables, he had taken it very well. He congratulated me and we ended on good terms. It was nice that he did this for me. "You look beautiful."
"Thank you," I murmured, a slight blush burning my cheeks.
I made my way over to Jamaica.
"Hey," I whispered softly. "Long time, no see."
I gave him a quick pat, before I turned back to Oliver.
He offered me his hand and I gave him a shy smile, before placing mine in his. He helped me up into the carriage. I settled onto the seat and he mounted the steps, sitting up front.
"Thank you for doing this," I thanked him earnestly. "This is so wonderful."
"My pleasure, Faith."
I sat back in my seat and shook my head incredulously. This was surreal. The cool wind rustled my hair as the horses began to walk forward. I rubbed my arms, feeling goose bumps emerge.
I withdrew my phone and quickly sent a snapchat to my friends, making sure I sent it to Brooklyn. She was going to be so jealous. Jayden organised a limo. He needed to up his game.
As we were plodding along, Oliver handed me a card over his shoulder. I gripped it, with my fingers slightly trembling.
Faith,
I love the fact that I can see your smile in my mind. I know you are beyond happy right now, not only because you're living your childhood dream, but Oliver brought your favourite horse along for the adventure.
There's one more stop I would like you to make, before we meet.
Not long now.
Xavier.
I shook my head as I re-read the card about four times. Each time I read it, my smile grew further. My cheeks were beginning to hurt. I don't think I've smiled this much in the past few years.
About ten minutes later, Oliver directed us towards the hall of my school. I quirked an eyebrow.
I didn't think I was allowed to attend?
The horses stopped and I waited for Oliver to climb down, so he could help me. I was not confident getting down there, in these shoes.
"Thanks," I said as my feet firmly hit the pavement.
Brooklyn suddenly rushed out, her face lit up.
"I'm a good liar, huh?" she smirked.
"Which lie are you referring to?"
"The one where I pretended that I had no idea what Xavier had planned," she grinned, before wrapping her arms around my neck. "The dress is amazing. Exactly what I envisioned when I ordered it."
"You did this?" I exclaimed, a little shocked.
Brooklyn, most often, was a terrible liar. I was impressed.
"Xavier sent me a few dresses he found and this was one of them. He picked it out, I just made the final decision."
"You're the best friend ever," I grinned, hugging her again, tighter this time. "The absolute best."
"This is just a stop so we can get photos in our dream dresses," she explained as she motioned some photographer, who I hadn't even noticed was hovering near us, over.
We took a series of photos with and without the horse carriage, pulling a number of funny faces throughout the process. I felt like I was a child again. It was fun.
"Okay, I have to get back inside," she said, slightly breathlessly.
She handed over the final card.
"Have fun, don't do anything I wouldn't," she teased, before planting a quick kiss on my cheek.
She hurried back inside. I waited until I was seated back into the carriage, before opening the card.
Faith,
I hope you enjoyed getting photos with your best friend. I know, although you wouldn't admit it, that you wanted to be there with Brooklyn. I did the best I could.
This next part is a little tricky and I apologise. I promise it is worth it.
Xavier.
I already knew where Oliver was taking me. He was taking me to Xavier and I's 'place'. The one we adventured to together.
How the hell am I going to walk through that forest, in these shoes!? He was damn right about it being tricky.
"Here," Oliver said as the carriage came to a stop.
He passed me my joggers. I let out a breath of relief. That was going to make it much easier.
I traded shoes and jumped down from the cart, careful not to drag my dress in the dirt.
"Have fun," he winked.
"Thanks Oliver. You're a legend."
"I know," he grinned.
With that, I turned, carrying my heels as I made my way into the forest. I knew the way, I didn't need cards or a horse and carriage to lead me this time.
After receiving a tiny cut on my arm, I finally found the clearing.
My mouth dried as there was a giant tent sent up. It was an outdoor tent, with a series of fairy lights strung around. It looked so pretty.
I quickly changed shoes, ditching my joggers off to the side.
There he was.
Xavier.
He stood there, a bunch of dark, delicious looking roses in his hands. He had a navy suit on, that fit him amazingly. He looked so handsome.
As I walked towards him, the photographer that was just at the school, was there, snapping photos of me. He must have driven quickly and run through the forest, to be here. That's dedication.
"Hello beautiful," Xavier murmured as I reached him.
He passed me the roses and I wordlessly took them, my throat feeling thick and dry.
"You," I said, suddenly feeling speechless. I shook my head, words escaping me.
He let out a low chuckle. "Did you like the surprise?"
"Like?" I asked, my voice slightly hoarse. "I love it. This is seriously a dream come true."
"That's what it felt like to me, when you became my girlfriend."
"Wow," I commented with a snort, possibly ruining the moment. "How long have you rehearsed that line?"
"I did rehearse that, I'm not going to lie," he confessed and I let out a laugh.
I leaned up and pressed my lips to his softly. I heard the snap of the camera and rolled my eyes, breaking from the kiss. We moved over, to where a sheet had been hung up and lights were draped over the top. We took a series of photos, before dismissing the photographer.
I walked to the centre of the outdoor set up and twirled, tilting my head back. I cannot believe the night I was having. I felt like I was in a movie, or some romance novel.
Xavier let out a soft, growl like sound. I turned my head to him, curiously. His eyes were a couple shades darker as he stared at me, in complete adoration.
"What?" I asked him shyly, ducking my head slightly.
He strode over to me and cupped his warm palms against my cheeks. He tilted my head back, staring intently into my eyes.
"You are the definition of fire. You're light, warm, you stand out and most of all, you make my entire body burn."
"Xavier," I whispered, my bottom lip quivering slightly.
He swooped down and hungrily pressed his lips to mine. He possessively gripped me as our kiss deepened. His hand moved down my back, making me curl towards his body.
He took a step back, pressing his forehead to mine. Our breath mingled as one.
"I love you. I love you so God damn much."
"I love you, too," I whispered back, feeling a little woozy from the intensity of the kiss.
Xavier stepped back and withdrew a velvet box, from inside his jacket. My eyes almost popped out of my skull.
"Don't freak out," he warned as I did indeed begin to freak out. "I'm not proposing."
"Oh."
"Well, I kind of am," he admitted. He popped open the box and a gorgeous, classic cut, diamond ring dazzled up to me. Of course it wasn't a thousand-dollar ring or anything like that, but it was stunning. "This is a Promise ring. Here, right in this moment, I promise to never give up on us, even if we fight. Even if we hate each other. I promise, to never mislead you into thinking I've wronged you, like I have before. I promise to be honest. I promise, that one day, I will marry you. I promise, that I will have children with you, if that's what you want."
My insides began to melt as his words wrapped around my heart and hugged it. I squeezed my eyes shut as they burned with tears.
When did I become someone who cries this often?
"Faith," he whispered.
I opened my eyes and stared into his.
"I promise, to love you. Unconditionally. For the rest of lives."
THE END.
