Chapter Twenty Five

----------------

"Half our life is spent trying to find something to do with the time we rushed through life trying to save." - Will Rogers.

Dedication: PollyHere for the amazing cover! I love it! Thank you :)

Recap:

"What? He has a phobia of spiders." I re-wrapped my robe around myself. "I have to go get a container and take it outside."

He just shook his head at me.

"You two are seriously the weirdest people I've ever met."

He was probably right.

-----------------

A loud, dramatic groan left my lips.

I groggily reached for my alarm, before tapping my screen to snooze. I feel so tired and I haven't even gotten out of bed yet.

Continuing to snooze my alarm about four times, I finally managed to pull myself out of bed. Dragging my feet on the carpet, I waded towards my bathroom, my body feeling heavy with sleep.

Shuffling in, I squinted as something caught my eye. A scream left my lips when I saw a naked Xavier, leaning nonchalantly against my glass door.

"Shh!" he suddenly whispered, half jolting. "Do you want us to get caught?"

After pressing my hand to my chest, to stop my heart from leaping outside it, I slapped him on his own chest.

"What the hell are you doing?" I furiously whispered.

"What's it look like?" he grinned, coming towards me, before resting his hands on my hips. "Good morning Princess."

I couldn't fight the smile off my face and I felt my insides melt as he stared at me. I smiled up at him. "Hi."

"By the way, I am freezing. I didn't realise it took you forty minutes to get out of bed."

"It's a continual struggle," I admitted, fighting off a yawn.

"Come here," he said, pulling me closer.

He wrapped his arms around me and engulfed me in a giant bear hug. I snuggled into his chest, inhaling his scent. Although he had goose bumps on his skin, he still radiated warmth. I gripped him tighter, absorbing his warmth into my own skin.

Stepping back, he gently pressed his lips to mine, before kissing my nose.

"If dad finds out you're in here, you're dead," I promised, my voice muffled by his skin.

He rolled his eyes. "He'd have to catch me first."

He turned the hot water nozzle on and soon, the bathroom began to fill with steam. I followed him into the cubicle.

He began lathering his hands with soap, before slowly rubbing it over my body. I fought off giggles as I was ferociously ticklish.

Inching towards me, he gently began kissing my neck, making his way up to my lips.

"Faith!" Dad suddenly called, making us both jump in alarm. "Get out, you're going to be late and stop wasting all the water!"

"If you make me some breakfast I'll consider it," I yelled back.

I just knew he was rolling his eyes.

"We'll have to pick this up later," Xavier murmured, before giving me one last, slow kiss.

This was one way to start the day.

***

Having been wrapped up in my own bubble, I totally forgot that I hadn't announced that Xavier and I were together. And I forgot what the student population was like at my school.

We walked in, mere minutes before the ball was going to ring, hand in hand.

To say people were whispering and staring, was an understatement. It was just like me dating Jacob, all over again.

It wasn't a big school, so not-very-exciting events, such as this, were big news around here. And spread like wildfire.

"Everyone is staring," Xavier murmured to me, as his grip on my hand tightened.

"Let them," I mumbled back, keeping my face as blank as possible.

I was focusing on getting to my table, when my shoulder barged painfully into someone else's.

"Sorry," I forced myself to say, looking up at Olivia.

She death stared me back, before striding from me.

I then remembered I had a go at her for talking to Chase. Oops.

"What was that about?" Xavier asked, quirking an eyebrow at me.

"I'll tell you later," I waved him off, not bothered enough to explain.

The bell rang just as we got to our group. Most of the girls already knew we were dating, because Brooklyn loves to gossip. But it still didn't stop them from openly staring at us like we just announced we were getting married, or something.

Does it make sense now why I'm always so dramatic?

"What's your first class?" I asked.

It felt weird, I'm not going to lie. I hardly associated with Xavier at school. He was with his guy group, and I had my own. We had mostly different classes and I usually tended to avoid him.

"Maths," he replied and I grimaced at the mention of the horrible subject.

"Okay, I skipped my extension English class, so I need to go talk to my teacher before class," I replied. "I'll see you at lunch."

I stood on my tip-toes and pressed my lips to his, even though I usually hate public affection. He kissed me back, before loping off to join his mates.

"Aw, you guys are cute," Brooklyn cooed, pinching my cheek.

I rolled my eyes.

We began to make our way inside, when someone's arm gripped my bicep. I came to a stop. Derek's arm found its way around Brooklyn's shoulders and she walked from me, not even noticing I had been stopped. Frowning after her, I half-turned and wished I hadn't.

"Faith," Jacob said, his voice laced with seriousness. "What do you think you're doing?"

"Going to class, what about you?"

He gave me a confused look, a wrinkle creasing his forehead. "Are you dating Xavier?"

"Yep," I replied, popping the 'p'. "And you care, why?"

"Because I thought there was a chance we-"

"A chance for what?" I laughed, shaking out of his hold. "To be together again? You're delusional."

"You kissed me."

"Yeah, what a dumb mistake that was," I said with an eye roll. "I used you to make Xavier jealous. That was it. Nothing more."

I could openly admit that now, considering I was actually dating Xavier. I didn't have to hide the fact that I liked him anymore.

"I don't believe you."

"Why do you even care? I saw you making out with Megan. You chose her over me. Don't think I will ever forgive you for that."

"It's not serious with her, Faith," he pleaded as I attempted to walk from him again. "We don't have a connection like you and I do."

"Did," I emphasised, glaring at him. "Or, so I thought."

"Faith-"

"You should have thought about that a long time ago. We're over, Jacob. Please just move on. I have."

And with that, I strode from him and successfully got away this time.

I cursed under my breath as class had already started. I was already in trouble for skipping the morning class. I wanted a chance to talk to Mr Hyder, but it looks like that won't be happening now.

Throwing an apologetic smile to Mr Hyder, I slipped into the classroom and began to make my way to my table.

Until I realised Chase was sitting in my seat. And every other table was taken. I was one of the only ones who sat alone in the class and the other two that usually do, had their bags and stuff spread over the free table beside them. Much to my annoyance.

"Faith," Mr Hyder said, looking over his spectacles to me. "Take a seat."

Yeah, I had some apologising to do to him.

Grumbling, I stomped to my desk and sat heavily onto the uncomfortable, plastic chair. Well, I should say the desk adjacent to my usual one.

"You're in my seat," I snapped, but it wasn't as effective as usual, considering I had to whisper.

"Can't we share?" He grinned back.

"No. We can't."

"Aw, why not?"

"Because I hate you."

"You don't even know me, Faithless," he murmured.

I dragged my eyes to his, a look of death on my face. How he knew Xavier called me that, was beyond me. But I did not appreciate hearing it come from him.

"Don't call me that."

"Why not, Xav does?"

"Yeah, exactly. You're not him."

"I know, I'm better," he smirked.

"You wish."

"You don't even know me," he whispered, his smirk never fading.

"I can tell plenty about you already," I sneered.

"Is there a problem?" Mr Hyder interrupted, breaking up our increasing-by-the-second glare match.

Swivelling my eyes forward, I plastered a fake smile onto my face. "No, all good."

"Good, shall we continue then?" he asked, before turning his back to us, continuing writing on the board.

"Seriously, we should hang. Get to know each other," he pressed. "You don't know what you're missing out on."

His finger touched mine and I yanked my hand back. I stared forward and met the blue eyes of Megan, who was watching the encounter between Chase and I, with her mouth open. She was someone I did not want to see this. Who knows what she could spread.

Besides her legs.

"Cut it out." I ground out, my teeth grinding together.

"You don't really want me to," he drawled, reaching out for me again.

I stomped my foot down onto his and he let out a surprisingly loud yelp, causing heads to turn our way.

"That's it," Mr Hyder sighed, pursing his lips. "You're both in for after school detention."

Scowling, I tried to fight the anger, but I couldn't. Picking up his pencil, I snapped it, needing to break something.

Just great.
