Chap 8

'Cring!!! Cring!!!!'

The doorbell was ringing, more like blasting the whole apartment with the loud ringing.

"I'm coming. Stop torturing the poor bell. People are sleeping, for god's sake," Forth irritatedly replied as he got up from his bed.

It's going to be midnight, and he just got back home from hazers meeting a few minutes ago.

If the person outside his door was one of his stupid friends, he was ready to smack their heads. It's Friday night, and he doesn't want to see his friend's face till Monday morning.

But all of his tiredness vanished in the air as soon as he saw the person behind the door.

"Grandpops!!!" he screamed louder than the doorbell sound earlier.

"You're that happy to see me, champ?" asked Phana as he happily ruffled the excited puppy in front of him.

"I thought you didn't want me to visit your hostel dorm," accused Phana playfully as he hugged his grandchild.

"I missed you so much, Grandpops," stated Forth in a baby voice that he only uses for his grandparents.

"I missed you too, hlan chay(grandson)."

It's the first time Phana visited Forth's hostel dorm. He was shocked to see the similarities in the room arrangement.

The room was chosen and decorated by Forth.

He did that before he officially moved in during his first year here.

The room looks exactly like his old friend arranged it during their university days. The point that his grandson got the same room and building as old Forth was not helping Phana's initial shock as well.

Forth noticed how his grandpop was checking his room which looked like a place hit by a storm. He quickly collected the scattered clothes from all sorts of corners into a laundry basket.

"My room doesn't usually look like this. I'm a very organized person, grandpop," Forth tried to convince his grandpa, who looked at him with a knowing look.

He laughed at Forth's childlike behaviour as he helped him clean up the place with him. After half an hour, the room somehow looked presentable.

"You made me work with my old bones," complained Phana as he settled on the sofa.

"I didn't ask you to clean, Grandpops. You made me clean at this midnight, too," whined Forth.

"We should keep your place clean, or else your Grandpa Yo will become a hulk when he sees your room later," replied Phana.

"Grandpa Yo is coming too? When will he be here?" questioned Forth without a break.

He was so hyper for a person who had classes and meetings all day till midnight.

"He will be here tomorrow morning to fetch me. I was supposed to stay in a nearby hotel. I have an appointment with a friend tomorrow," added Phana.

"Ohh, I see. Here I thought you missed me to come here so late at night," pouted Forth.

"Of course, I'm here cause I missed you. If not, I would've stayed in a hotel with five-star service than clean your messy room," teased the old man.

"You've grown so much," Phana said as he gently caressed Forth's face.

"Don't get emotional now," teased Forth as he started to prepare the bedding for his grandpa.

"Grandpa, you may take my bed for tonight. I'll sleep in this additional bed. I always kept one around here for my friends. They will pass out after our group discussion all the time."

Forth talked without a break and shared multiple stories with his grandpa. Phana listened to all of it with an adoring smile.

"Forth, what happened to your nightmares? Do you still get them?" asked Phana.

"Not precisely, grandpops. I don't get nightmares after that. But, nowadays, my dreams are filled with sweet dreams, sweet moments and seems like sweet memories," said Forth with a dreamy look as Forth imagined Beam in his head.

"Why are you giving me that look, grandpop?" asked Forth as he yawned.

"You're too active for a tired person. And, your tan skin can't hide your blush, boy. Who is the person that stole my grandchild's heart?" commented Phana with a smile.

"Grandpops, don't tease me."

"Well, He is someone I met recently.

I feel so content and happy when I'm with him.

I want to protect him from everything even though he could handle himself well. When he is around, the whole room lights up. He has the potential to make people around him feel loved," Forth was explaining his new love interest with so much love in his eyes, unknown of the sad eyes his grandpops gave him.

"Why don't you bring him back home during semester break and introduce him to us? I'm sure everybody will love him," advised Phana.

"I would love to. I'll introduce my faen to you once we become official. But I don't know if I get to return home during this break," commented Forth sleepily and yawned again.

"Well, your mom told me to inform you that if you don't return home during this semester break, she will cut off your monthly allowance. She also said that she would personally come here to exchange your bike and car with an old bicycle."

"WHAT! Grandpops, you can't let her do that," argued Forth.

"I can't help you this time, Champ. You have to come back home this time, and I want you to meet some of my old friends too," Phana tried to convince him.

"I'll try begging my seniors to let me go back home then. I can't let mom take my bike," stated Forth while yawning.

"Why don't you sleep. You're too sleepy to continue this chitchat. I'll wake you up in the morning for the meeting you mentioned earlier and your date after that," suggested Phana as he saw how hard Forth tried to keep his eyes open.

"I don't know when I'll get to meet you again. So, I want to talk all night," replied Forth and yawned again.

"We can talk more when you come back in three weeks. Now sleep well, my child," said Phana as he tucked Forth into his additional bed.

Forth was out like a light as soon as his head touched the pillow. Poor guy was too tired and sleepy.

Phana sat on the sofa as he watched his only grandchild sleep peacefully. Although he was happy about Forth's love life, he was sad at the same time.

The old Forth used to talk about his best friend Beam with the same excitement and love in his eyes.

Now those eyes and excitement are directed toward someone, not his best friend, and he is sad because he can't blame or accuse anybody because of this.

According to Phana, unlike Forth, Beam didn't reincarnate. So he can't hold back Forth from falling for someone new.

All he could do at this moment was hope for Forth's happiness to last long.

"Owh, baby. Where are you going on a weekend morning?" asked Sanoh as she sipped her tea.

"Mother, you're home! I thought you would be in the golf club with your friends," replied Beam as he took his seat by the dining table for a quick breakfast.

"I want to be a couch potato today. By the way, don't change the initial question. Are you going somewhere?"

"Mom, you can't be a couch potato. You would get bored before noon," teased Beam.

"You brat, I can relax and chill at home too," argued the National Thai Bank finance specialist.

"Yeah, yeah. I'll trust you, mother. I have an assignment which needs references. So, I'm off to the campus library. After that, I have something up for the afternoon. Then, I'll be back home and sleep before Dad comes home," stated Beam, mixed with sarcasm.

"Sweety, your dad has things to do. He is not avoiding you," Mrs Sanoh tried to console her now sulking son.

"He is coming home after I slept and leaving before I wake up. Even though I wake up before sunrise to meet Dad, he is not at home anymore. If that's not purposely avoiding someone, then I don't know what is, mother," commented Beam sadly.

Since that incident on the bus a few days ago, he figured that the person named 'Forth Jaturapoom' was somehow related to him and his family.

But, he couldn't find more from these dreams. He needs his dad or someone from his family to explain it to him.

Whereas, the person who contacted him to talk didn't even meet him since he returned from the camp a few days ago.

"I understand. I would be mad if I were in your shoes too. Let's not talk about your dad. You said that you have something else to do after your library stop. Are you meeting someone special?" she asked as she wiggled her eyebrows playfully.

"Mother, why are you so eager to know about that? Aren't you supposed to advise me to focus on my studies first or don't play around?" questioned Beam, unamused by his mother's inquiries.

"Why would I? You're an adult, Beam. I could be in peace if you bring back some kind and cute girl/boy," she addressed dramatically.

"Won't you approve if I bring back someone bigger and tough than me?" asked Beam slowly as he avoided eye contact.

He knows all of his family members are open to any gender and relationship status. But he doesn't know if it's okay for him to bring someone who clearly gives off the Alpha vibe.

Mrs Sanoh was quiet for a full minute and started to yell in excitement; as she made crazy dance moves.

"Mother! Keep your voice down and stop acting like a fangirl," scolded Beam as he hid his embarrassment from the smiling housemaids.

"You have no idea how happy I would be if you bring back a handsome man than a cute girl. I always shipped your dad with his friend during university days, but unfortunately, both were straight like a pole," she commented unbothered.

"My goodness! Mother, Why would you ship your boyfriend/ husband with another man? I can't understand your wicked mind," complained Beam as he continued to eat his breakfast.

"Baby, I want you to know that no matter who you like or love, it is your choice. We, as parents, will support you no matter who or what you choose to do with your life. Get back home safely, alright? I'll chill in the living room," said Mrs Sanoh as she kissed his forehead before leaving the dining area.

Beam watched her walk out as he wondered how nice it would be if his dad talked to him like his mother.

Shortly after that, he left his home for the campus in his car.

Wayo enters the campus compound at half-past ten in the morning. He decided to stop by the dim sun restaurant below the engineering dorm where he used to have breakfast with Ming in the old days to take some take-outs. He is sure that his husband and grandson would be lazing around instead of having proper breakfast.

He can already imagine their sittings on the sofa right in front of the TV. He missed their playtime during Forth's childhood.

Just as he was about to make a U-turn into the Engineering dorm area, he caught a glimpse of someone he thought who died 40 years ago.

His eyes got teary upon the mere glimpse of the said person. He returned to the same spot he saw the person, which was near the medicine faculty area.

But the person was not there anymore.

He concluded that he must have mistaken someone else for the late senior.

Maybe he misses his favourite senior couples to the point of imagining stuff.

There's a saying there are seven people who look alike in the world. They could be identical twins, doppelgangers, reincarnated people or random strangers. His grandson falls under one of the categories, but he can't expect Beam to get reincarnated as well, Even though he wishes for it.

Wayo climbed up the stairs to Forth's dorm room with a heavy heart. The familiar location made him sad.

He ringed the doorbell and waited patiently, unlike Phana, who blasts the dorm with continuous ringing.

As soon as Forth opened the door, Wayo broke down into tears as he hugged him tightly.

"Grandpa Yo, are you alright? Did you miss me that much to the point of crying like this? You're better than grandpops," teased Forth as he engulfed the old small frame in his larger body.

Phana, who watched the commotion understands the reason behind his husband's breakdown.

Forth was in his red hazer jacket as he needed to attend a meeting with the seniors about the upcoming sports event.

His attire now reminded the old Forth's classic dress-up in uni days. Wayo idolized old Forth as a respected senior all his life. He was the number one fan of the FORTHBEAM ship. When they left his world to the mortal realm, Wayo was so broken.

"You have grown a lot. Where is my cute grandchild?" asked Wayo in between his tears.

"Owh, your cute grandchild is now a handsome guy, na. Don't be sad," consoled Forth as he invited the still crying grandfather inside.

They chatted and had breakfast before all went different ways.

Both the grandparents watched Forth drive away in his bike as they got into Wayo's car.

Somehow, Wayo decided to keep the glimpse he caught to himself.

Unlike him, Phana adored late Beam like his own son. The same goes for P'Kit. They protected P'Beam like a son than a friend.

"Forth promised to return home during the semester break, Yo. Let's plan a family day during that time," suggested Phana.

"Shall we invite our friends and seniors too? We shouldn't hide Forth from them anymore," stated Wayo sadly.

"I want our Forth to meet our friends and some family friends now, P'Pha. Even though he has no memories of the past and is a completely different person, we shouldn't hide him anymore," said Wayo.

"I understand, Yo. We have to let him meet his people too. After today's meeting with P'Mew, I would get the clarity to let them meet Forth. I need to know that he is safe to meet his old friends," completed Phana as he hugged the sad guy beside him. No matter how old they get, Wayo still looks the same with his worried eyes.

"I won't let anything happen to him, I promise."
