A Hero's day's work (lyttlejoe)
A Hero's day's work
A lazy day for Resolute Rhymer
As he lay back listening for his oven timer
He'd put in a rack of ribs to bake
When a call came in he had to take
'Grab your mandolin and let's go!'
Came the excited voice of Miss LeBow
'It's on the news, there's been a crime.
Hurry up we've not much time.'
He listened to Credenza's story
Stuck in his cab behind a lorry
Someone had dared to kidnap the mayor
While he was speaking at the county fair
In an attempt to run they sadly found
They'd chosen to escape on the Merry Go Round
Resolute finally arrived and surveyed the scene
Credenza wanted to know where he had been
'That's not important, I'm here now . . . so,
where did these kidnappers think they would go?'
Without waiting to hear, he swirled his cape
Left the gathering crowd with mouths agape
Then he broke into a signature rhyme
That had them tapping their toes in time
But the carnival ride only gained in speed
His clever rhyme wasn't all they'd need
Suddenly Credenza leaped upon a bobbing horse
And pursued the gang around the course
The closer she came each revolution made
Which made the hapless criminals more afraid
'Help!' cried the mayor. 'I'm over here!'
"I'm coming, your honour, never fear.'
And in the news next day when the rescue was told
It recounted Credenza's blistering scold
'Well done sidekick,' Resolute strummed a chord
'Even I was enthralled by your every word.
But the stinger that really carried the day
was when you asked them, what their mothers would say.'
Resolute looked around
Someone had called his name
'Sorry to tell you, Mr. Rhymer,
your house went up in flame.'
