Chapter 3 - An Oath

"Oh, so we're gonna have to fight for it... I'm cool with that." I grinned. Luckily, Reyes also taught me hand-to-hand combat. The enemies took out their guns. "..." I got a chill up my spine as I remembered something.

"Now, time for your abilities." Reyes, A.K.A. Reaper, said, as he held a gun in his hand for an unknown reason. "I'm ready!-- But why are you holding a pistol?" I asked. "Let me explain. Your powers not only enhance your strength, but they allow you to absorb others' health for yourself." He said. "That man over there is our test subject." He said, gesturing towards a man in a cage that was wheeled over by some soldiers. The man looked terrified. "Uh... Are you sure?" I asked, as Reaper walked towards me, and kneeled down. "I need you to trust me." He said, as I took a deep breath and nodded. "Good." He stood up. "Ready?" He asked, as I nodded. "...!" I felt a sharp pain in my right leg. I looked down, and saw that he had shot me in the leg. "Ah!" I said, nearly stumbling forwards. I winced in a brand new kind of pain that I've never felt before. "Now." He said, as I took out my baton, and pointed it at the man. "Activate your power." Reaper demanded, as I mouthed the words; "I'm sorry." To the man, before I sapped his life away. The man stopped moving-- for he had died. I looked down at my leg, that looked perfectly normal, as if I wasn't even shot in the first place.

'Okay... Deep breaths Carmen...' I thought, as I took a deep breath. 'If I do get shot, I'll have to find someone to use-- what am I thinking?!' I thought, before shaking my head. 'I can't steal life. No matter how much good it'll do for me. I made a vow that is never take a life unless it was Reyes' life.' I thought, getting in a battle stance. "You ready?" Lucio asked, as I nodded. "We clearly have the upper hand, what good can you do against guns?" The gang leader laughed. "Allow me, the oh so grand Carmen, show you how it's done." I said, as I ran up to them. "I'll try to keep you healed!" Lucio said, skating up to them. "Got it!" I replied, as the leaders shot their guns at me. 'One from the front, one from the left, and one from the right... Up!' I thought, as I jumped up, dodging the three bullets. I decided to drop kick one of them, knocking them out. Lucio had taken care of the other, and the only one that remained was their leader. "What was that about "having the upper hand"?" I said, as me and Lucio punched him in the face. "Whew!" I laughed. "Talk about some serious Kick-assery right there!" I said, making punching motions. "These belong to you?" Lucio asked, holding up my bag, and my baton. "Why yes. Yes they do." I smiled, taking them. "The emblem on that baton seems awfully familiar." He said, as I tensed up. "U-uh... What emblem? Haha! I-i don't remember there being an emblem on this baton, you must be seeing things, haha...!" I said nervously, as I grasped the baton, attempting to hide the Talon insignia. "You sure?" He asked, as I sighed, and dropped it onto the ground. He picked it up, and his eyes widened. "Talon?!" He exclaimed. "Ssh keep it down!!!" I whisper yelled. "You're a threat, that I'm probably gonna have to get rid of." He said, glaring. "Whoa whoa... Let me explain!" I panicked. "Fine." He said. "Okay. Yes, I was a member of Talon. But I didn't have a choice." I said, as he relaxed somewhat. "How come?" He asked. "I was an orphan, on the brink of starvation, I know, super cliche, I know, and Gabriel Reyes took me in, gave me a place to stay, and made sure that I was healthy. But he gave me powers similar to his own to try and turn me into a weapon." I said, taking a breath before continuing. "I realized this, and ran away. I've heard of and admired this team called Overwatch all my life, and I want to join them so I can get my revenge on Reyes and his soldiers." I said, taking another deep breath. "...wow." Lucio said, looking surprised. "Yep. Super cliche." I sighed. "Why do you still have this then?" He asked holding up my baton. "Because it's the only thing that can actually handle my powers. I prefer to channel them into a weapon, and that's the only thing that I've seen so far that's capable of withstanding them." I said. "That's an awful lot for someone to go through, but wow." He said.

XD I FUCKING LOVE CARMEN!!!
Anyways, Heya guys! It's me, WaffleCake!
I hope you've enjoyed this semi-serious chapter!
Carmen's backstory was originally revealed in the first few chapters of the original fanfic(which was deleted cause Y'know...), and I changed her story a teeny bit in this one.
But it's generally the same. Save for a few minor adjustments.
So.
What do you guys think of Carmen so far? Cool? Irritating? "Cliche"? XD
I'd love to know, so feel free to comment and tell me if you like her or not. ^^
Anyways! That's enough from me, so I'll see you all in the next chapter! Bye bye!~
