Chapter 29

"People say that with time everything heals. But the scars are still fucking there and I can't forget what happened."

I twiddled with the black call point pen in my hand, sweating. Mr Professor dude was about to hand out the test, and I couldn't help but feel a tinge bit nervous. Okay maybe not a tinge.

I don't do well with tests okay? I probably know Physics like the back of this classroom and could recite it in my sleep - that's just how easy it is. But I just can't handle with tests.

I mean P.E test? Sure, I'll smash it. Oral? No problem, no faff. But written? Good luck to me because I'm going to need it. Me and written tests just don't mix.

And that's surprising to say at the very least.

Nevertheless, I still revised for an hour or so, making sure I could actually be able to get over 90% first time so that my daydreaming in class could be, to some extent, justifiable.

Yeah, okay that sounds pretty stupid thinking back but I'm going to push that to the back of my mind because the ugly, bland test is right in front of me.

Why did I get AP class for Physics again? Actually, for any sciences for that matter... why did I get AP for all sciences?

I picked up my pen and sighed as I looked at the first question. Seriously? I sighed and started scribble down the answer I knew like the back of my head.

---

"That was a hard test..." Chase sighed, stretchy his arms and not so subtly relaxing it on my shoulders.

I pushed the unnecessary weight off of my shoulders and rolled my eyes. "Hardly." I scoffed, holding the books closer to my chest.

"She's right. It was barely anything". Jayden backed me up and I smiled. Why am I smiling?

"Nope, it was a hard test either way." Cody popped into the conversation, and jerk nodded his head furiously in agreement.

"I think I failed. Alexis, I think I failed." Jordan's eyes were wide and I put a hand on his shoulder, as if to comfort him and replied,
"I know buddy. We all do. You suck at physics."

"That's straight up blunt and mean." Chase whispered to me, his eyes plastered on Jerk's annoyed face because he knew he flopped. Stupid guy, probably didn't even revise.

Physics gives him an actual headache in general.

"It's not if he knows it." I shrugged and Jayden held out his fist to spud. I tapped my fist against his as he smirked,
"She knows what I'm getting at, Chase. I think I'm gonna have to ditch you for her."

Chase placed a hand over his heart and feigned offence, as the two boys bickered back and forth as I stood in the middle, slightly bent as they communicated over me. Sometimes I wish I was smaller.

I mean, I'm the average height for a boy my age, which is pretty tall. I look like a giant next to girls. Like Ava. She was a normal girl who had an average height of a girl. But no, I had to be tall like mum and probably my dad.

We're about to open the door and Chase let's me and Jayden through first. "Watch out!" Is what I think I hear, but suddenly, me and Jayden are getting splotched in red, blue and white paint.

Patriotic, wow. My British flag.

At this moment, I would stand with a hand across my heart and then the anthem would play loudly and I'd sing along- this is sounding a lot like what happens in the World Cup oh my gosh.

"Jayden!" Someone else screams and my head whips in the direction as I see a knife coming at him. The poor boy is confused at what is actually happening as I jump onto him without thinking, knocking him to the floor with me on top of him.

Why would you even throw a knife in the first place? Like damn.

My hands are at either side of his head now, as I lay on top of him in a somewhat, I'd say a very compromising position. Our faces are incredibly close and I can feel the heat radiating off of him.

My eyes bore into his as I watch his eyes move over to every other place in this room than me. I smirk, knowing I have an affect on him and have a plan.

I lean in closer and I hear him draw in a large breathe, bracing himself at what was happening.

I peck him on the cheek, merely missing his mouth and smirk, knowing I have power and some effect on him.

I guess I kinda forget that we were in the lunch room as I heard a collecting "aw" from the crowd and smiled coyly.

Jayden also smiles after recovering and I rolled over on the floor, jump up and reach my hand out for him. He gladly takes it, seeing the triumphant smile on my face.

We look over to Chase whose literally having a fan girl moment.

"I literally ship you guys." He says, fanning his eyes as if to stop him from crying of joy and I laugh, a hand covering my mouth.

"Me too!" I hear a familiar female voice call and I look over Chase's shoulder to see Ava standing with Cody, whose too busy admiring her beauty.

"Well, too bad. I was just teasing." I shrugged and then scanned the cafeteria until my eyes found who I was looking for.

I strutted up to her table and my hands leaned against the minimalistic white school lunch table. "What was that about?" I asked her, clearly confused.

"I have kept out of your way like you asked me too." She knew exactly what I was talking about, not only about school. I was also talking about home and anywhere we would be together.

And to think she would have had the common sense to acknowledge that, well guess not.

"You have no proof I did it." She stated smugly and I rolled my eyes.

"I don't need evidence. You didn't even deny it. Now, I suggest you open your ears and listen loud, because what I'm about to say, I won't repeat. Take it as... a friendly warning." I stated calmly, examine my cleanly cut nails which I never do. Eek, how do girls look at these kind of things for their lives?

I'm so happy I am not a mindless zombie who has a double care in the world for fashion, makeup and girly stuff in general. But makeup and fashion can be practised by males too, hey! I don't judge.

"Stay out of my way." I grit out hardly, through clenched teeth. She looks at me quite stunned and I smirk inwardly. I've got to her.

I whip myself towards the table Cody and Ava have made themselves guests too and sit with them, taking off my sweatshirt. I'm doing a lot of whipping I must say. And that sounds like I'm harassing something or someone. Oh God.

Luckily, I wore a tank top underneath this so I'm okay- not good but it's whatever. It'll do for now. I mean it isn't that bad, bedside it was getting quite hot today so why not.

Cody's eyes widened, Ava just smirked and then I heard a cough from behind me. "And what do you think your doing?" Jayden asked me and I didn't turn around to answer him, and instead took Cody's pizza.

"Nothing. Just removing clothes that have paint splattered all over them. You?" I asked, taking a bite out of the margarita pizza in front of me that Cody ever so kindly got me.

Next thing I know, Jayden is sitting next to me and taking off his hoodie and hanging it to me. "Put it on." He instructs, and I oblige immediately without an argument because quite frankly, I don't like the idea of walking around the school halls in only a white tank top.

There are dirty pervs in this school, and one is sitting next to me, as a matter of fact. But I trusted the perv sitting next to me.

He was wearing a white polo top underneath that had a red lining and a small logo in the corner which I couldn't make out.

I inhaled the hoodie and relished the smell, because it smelt a lot like him. Shit, do I have a crush on who I think I have crush on?

Hell no, me? Have a crush? Okay there's clearly something wrong with me and my emotions. I'm sure it's just a phase. It'll probably just, I don't know, go away?

Maybe it'll fade in a few days. It's not like it's serious or anything.

Jayden leaned in close, and my heart sped like a sledgehammer in my rib age, as I sat there praying he couldn't hear it accelerate.

He kissed my cheek for a split second and whispered in my ear, "I have an affect on you too." And left.

He blew me off my feet and left me stunned. What a guy.

Taking me out of my small, stunned trance, I heard two chuckles, one deep and one feminine coming from opposite me.

The small chuckle turns into big laughter and Cody is slapping his knee, unable to contain himself as Ava reaches over to pinch my cheeks. I swat her hands away as soon as I know what she's doing and she carry's on laughing.

A permanent scowl is implanted on my face and I roll my eyes, taking my food to Jayden's table. Idiots.

Everyone is laughing on the table until I come, and then it dies down. "What?" I ask, pissed. So maybe I'm on that time of the month. I take place next to Jayden and I hear an all too familiar voice.

"She chose to sit-- to him as well!" Cody shouted and my face flamed red as I buried my hands in palm, and then shouted back. "Shut the freaking hell up before I come and whack some sense into you!"

Everyone bursts out laughing on the table, including Nick the grumpster, and I give them a look that silences most of them. Jayden, Chase and Nick just carry on- not giving a care in the world.

I grab Chase's finger, whose sat on the other side of me, and pull it back until I hear a click. That'll tell them to shut up.

"Ow! What the fucking hell, Alexis?" He screams, shaking and flailing his hand everywhere. This encourages everyone else to laugh, and now there is no sound coming from Jayden and Nick.

Everyone on the team is basically here, except Joey Ian Sammy and Graham are on the edge, talking amongst themselves. Knew it. They are their own friends.

A smile creeps onto my face as I take another bite into the margarita, eating it fine. Cody and Ava also find themselves on the table, squishing between Austin and Nick who are opposite me.

I roll my eyes when I see them and Ava successfully pinches my cheeks. I shake my head, chuckling, and resume taking a bite from the margarita.

"Don't leave me hanging." I hear Austin say to Ethan, their bodies adjusted so they are aching each other. "Don't leave me hanging."

"Austin, are you British or something?" I ask him and he turns to me.

"Yeah. Except I've lived her for almost my whole life. My parents moved here when there was too much commotion in their lives." He shrugged and went back to arguing.

"Smith?" I asked again and then he slowly turned around to face me again, a quizzical look on his face. He ushered me to carry on so I did.

"They go to London, near Forest Gate, every summer for their holidays. They have two children and... yeah I think that's all I know."

"Damn, you knew them?" He asked and I nodded.

Mr and Mrs Smith were really kind. They lived a few houses down on the same street and, I guess knew that Ron was a big idiot. But I thought Austin looked familiar. Damn.

They didn't know what he did to me, of course, but as I said before, Ron had quite a reputation because of his alcoholism and him being fired from almost every job. They knew he wasn't he best figure in my life, and they'd usually invite me and Cody over for dinner sometimes.

I knew they had kids, but I didn't really see them.

"Wait, Mrs Smith, as in, the one who invited us for Thanksgiving?" Cody asked and I nodded.

"Damn." I whistled loudly. "This really is a small world."

"You think? All of our parents know each other and we're friends in high school. Even Joey's." Nick commented and a few other people shrugged.

"Aha. Austin, what are the odds that you knew a guy named, or famously named actually, Ron?" I asked and my eyes flitted to my brother as I saw Cody tense up a bit. Maybe the past is still a bit sensitive to talk about.

"... crazy dude that is always having alcohol and got kicked out of at least 100 jobs?" He clarified and I nodded.

But then corrected him. "Actually, he got kicked out of 89 work places, but you were close."

"You kept track... of how many jobs that idiot lost?" Cody asked me and I turned my attention into him.

"Obviously. Who do you think got him into all those jobs in the first place?" I asked, whilst poking the salad in the plate in front of me with my fork.

"Oh."

"Yeah, I knew him. Why though? And you used to fill out his papers for him?" Austin asked me and sighed, placing my fork down.

"Yeah. He was my step-dad." I answered bluntly. "And a fucking retard he was." I chuckled humourlessly.

The most recent incident replayed in my head and I knocked my head.

"What the hell are you doing?" Joey asked all of a sudden. Everyone turned to look at me knocking on my head.

What? I was trying to get his fucking head out of my brain. I was going to turn crazy... slowly. And I didn't want that.

"Taking our a memory." I answered and Cody gave me a questionable look, pointing his fork right at me. "What?"

"Which one?" He asked me and I shook my head. At this point, Jordan had also joined the table somewhere. I don't know when but I just realised now.

Jordan's eyes widened in realisation, I don't know how he worked that out. "Oh, you wouldn't know."I replied.

"What did happen, Alexis? I really need to know now. I let you off and if it's coming back, you need to fill me in." Jordan said, concern flitting his eyes.

I rolled my eyes and mumbled a "nothing" then getting up from the table and leaving. I did not expect that to go like that.

"I'm coming with." Jayden said and my heart rate increased by a thousand. I just nodded and got out my football from my gym bag and smiled.

"Wanna play?" I asked him and he shrugged.

"Sure."

And that's probably how I ended the rest of my lunch. Probably because I also had to use the bathroom... okay.

But hey, Jordan didn't nag about it again...? Yay?
