Chapter 33
"Love what you do and do it with a heart."
✨

We got off the bike and I ran past Jayden, calling out that he couldn't catch me. Which, in a sense, was true. I was sure he couldn't catch me because I was a fast runner if I do say so myself. But he had already caught me in his web. I just hoped he wouldn't find out. Not yet anyway.
Yes, I was a little bit shy. What's wrong with a confident girl being shy? Oh, I'll tell you. It means that everything bad that can happen will happen. And that's not all. It also lowers your confidence levels, which is a great downer because I actually liked where I was standing on the confidence charts.
I ran straight into a food store which I did not catch the name of, because I was too busy looking in front of me and making sure that I don't bump into anyone. I joined the queue and quickly let out my hair, grimacing at how weird it felt.
A person stood behind me and I thanked my lucky stars for the blockade. It'll be even harder for him to recognise me in the queue now.
Soon after, I had ordered everything, meaning 4 slices of Pizza. 2 for me, 2 for him. Thanking the cashier, I began walking out when I saw a familiar figure leaning against the shop's glass walls, and I involuntarily sighed. How did he know?
Leaning against the glass wall with a leg bent, I handed him his two slices of pizzas and looked at me quizzically, but didn't say a word as he then took it from my hands.
His hand grazed my hand and I felt a wave of electricity pass through my body, and I started jumping around inside. Which was a side I was not aware I had.
Shaking off all the useless but amazing feelings tingling in my veins, I smiled at him and pulled his free hand, dragging him into a store- where he stopped me instead. I looked at him an then he pulled me to a nearby bench and sat down. I also, hesitantly, did the same and he finished chewing. Damn, there was a lot of pulling going on.
"Why aren't you talking to me?" He asked me and I quickly shook my head and then facepalmed myself in front of him. You don't shake your head immediately after- everybody knows that. He smirked and I rolled my eyes.
"Nothing I'm just being a bitch." I replied and he rolled his eyes in a 'sure' manner. Damn, he knew me well and I hadn't even known him for a long time.
"It's stupid. Anyways, what should I get Sammy? I was thinking an air freshener because I almost died in his room the other day I-"
"Alexis, what is going on?" He asked me, holding me by the shoulders which gave me no choice but to look directly into those chocolate orbs of his. It intimidated me, no doubt, and I didn't know how brown eyes made me scared. Well, these brown anyways, I mean-Cody has brown eyes but he doesn't scare me.
"Erm, well, can we talk about this later?" I asked timidly and he held my gaze for another few seconds until he nodded and then frustratedly ran his finger in his brown nest of a hair that he pulled off pretty nicely.
I then dragged him into a cleaning appliance store and got Sammy some air freshener because his room smells like someone died in it. Typical.

"Who do we have left?" Jayden asked, and I looked at my phone and sighed. No text from Chase and I didn't have a present for Jayden. This was sure annoying because even if Jayden knew me well, I was still left in the blank and surrounded by his mysterious persona. Which I hated, I'll admit.
"Cody, Chase and someone else," I said and he looked at me weirdly. "No, I am not going to tell you who it is." I sighed as he gave me the face.
"Okay, do you know what you're getting this person?" He asked me and I shook my head. I didn't, and I wasn't lying to him. I was just withholding some information for the time being. He'd work it out on Christmas and that's when stuff will start getting tricky. I mean, he's a smart boy and I'm not the most skilled at asking someone out.
"Okay, tell me how the person is and I'll help figure out a present." I popped a bubblegum in my mouth and started blowing bubbles, and he rolled his eyes.
Cody wanted the Chelsea kit again. I didn't get it but as I say, it's like a phase. As soon as Chelsea get into the semis Cody's like their gonna win. He has a phase whenever Chelsea makes it to the semis.
Chase I had no idea.
"Wait, tell me about Chase first?" I asked and he laughed.
"The kid likes toys. Like remote control cars, cops," and I chuckled too.
Then the best idea popped in my head. "What if I get him a drone?" I asked and then Jayden dropped the bags he was holding and shook his head furiously.
"Never! We are not getting that kid a drone understand me?" He said and I dropped my bags and put my hands up in surrender.
I noticed his face was incredibly close to mine so I pushed his nose with my right index finger and then dusted off my hands. "Fine. I'll get him a silver car."
"Fine."
After we had bought both the Chelsea kit and the Silver Toy Car, it was just Jayden left. And I still hadn't figured out what to get him.
"Okay, now describe the person." He said and I nodded, drinking from my slushy. Okay, I also got a slushy.
"Well, he is built. He's good looking, but I wouldn't admit it to his fucking face. He's kind but acts like a total bitch for some reason. Oh he can sing." I said and looked at him with a broad smile.
I was internally praying that he could sing. I think that he can anyways. When I had went over to his house the first time, I was singing and he told me to shut up because I was terrible. And he claimed he could.
So I'm taking a chance and believing him.
I don't think he caught on that I was insinuating it was him, because he just looked at me with a passive face that managed to send my heart into knots.
Of course, I wasn't going to tell him that I got the present for him but come on, it's so obvious. Boys really are oblivious.
"Okay... so what kind of stuff does he like?" He asked me and I shrugged.
"I haven't known him for a long while you know, since I just moved to the states..." I dragged on, loving the fact that when I gave him the present, he would realise I was talking about him.
And he would hate himself for reacting this way.
"Right. Shall we walk around and see what we can find?" He asked and I nodded.
We'd been walking for only five minutes and we'd already started debating. To be precise, he said penguins are going to take and rule over the world, whilst I strongly believed it was jellyfish.
However, as he was talking he kept glancing back to a shop where music records and stuff were being sold. More specifically, I think he was eyeing a guitar.
I dragged him in the store and told him to pick out a guitar, using the excuse since he was a boy it would be like a good choice.
He picked up a classical acoustic guitar and it wasn't expensive. Actually, it was only about $40 because it was on clearance, and it was the cheapest one there.
I smiled at him and went to pay at the till whilst he said he was going to look around a bit more.
"Hey. Is this a present?" A guy around my age serving me asked and I smiled and replied with a yes. "Shall I wrap it for you? It's like only $2 more." He said and I nodded.
"Is it for your boyfriend?" He asked me, smirking, whilst bringing a box to put the guitar inside the case in side the box. Yeah that's a mouthful.
"No. But..."
"You want him to be your boyfriend. I'm guessing it's the guy you walked in with?" He asked me, tapping something on the screen and asking for the money.
I gave him it and I nodded. "Yeah, it's for him. He just doesn't know it yet." I laughed and he joined in.
"Oh what's your name?" He asked me before I went and I smiled.
"Trouble." I replied and he chuckled again, waving bye and I waved back too.
But at the doors was a jealous Jayden waiting for me.
"You like him?" He asked me, acting casual but you could see the small squirm under the word 'him'.
"Nope. He's a really cool guy. His hair is a cool funky colour too." I smiled, knowing I was getting under his skin. I guess this was payback for stealing the kiss.
"Mhm." His mind was somewhere else when he replied and I decided to make him feel slightly better. I mean, once he'd get this baby, hopefully he'll get what I'm hinting at. And he will think back saying if only I could turn back time.
"Besides, I already have eyes for someone." I smiled small, looking at the box. What was I getting myself into, I don't know. I just hoped whatever it was, that I wasn't going to come it too damaged in the end.
Once we got home, I ran onto the couch face first and groaned. "I'm so tired!" Everything hurt. My legs, my feet, my arms. Everything. Shopping took a toll on me.
Jayden's laugh ringed through the house soothed me, a feeling in my chest that felt amazing. But I didn't want to dwell on it.
I sat up, taking my shoes off and groaned again when I heard and felt my stomach rumble. "I'm hungry as well!"
"You're always hungry." Jayden chuckled and I rolled my eyes and pouted, because I was actually hungry. And he was right. "Okay, I'll make you something..." he agreed and I smiled.
"You need to go grocery shopping." Jayden called after a while as I walked in, change into some sweats and a plain white tank top. I knew I forgot something.
"Dammit! Damn Cody even has practice the day we're free. Wanna come with?" I asked him, the words flowing effortlessly off my tongue.
And then, after they had left my mouth, I had realised what I had just said. Sue me. This sucks ass.
"Can I bring Nick, Nathan and Daniel too?" He asked me and I released a small breath. At least we weren't going to to be alone.
"Sure." I nodded and walked over to the counter, sitting on it. "So... what'd you make for me?" I asked him and turned around.
He was holding a plate with the sandwich on top, but I wasn't paying attention to that. I was too busy getting lost in those orbs of his and I wanted to stay there.
Both stuck in an endless trance, Jayden out the plate beside me on the counter as well.
Jayden asked me, his voice huskier than I remembered, "Why were you angry at me?" His voice was a mere whisper and made me shiver involuntarily, sending chills down my back in an unexplainable feeling.
"You- does it matter?" I asked him, breaking the contact and rubbing my half sweaty palms on my grey roots sweats.
"Yes, it does." He confirmed and I sighed and rolled my eyes. I roll my eyes too much I'm a day it's unhealthy.
"Fine you- ugh. I've never told anyone this, but I haven't kissed anyone before. You stole my first kiss."
Jayden immediately smashed his lips onto mine again and I felt my heart in my throat, beating furiously which made me scared to the bone.
I kissed back after a few moments of hesitation on what to do and what not to, but then just went for it anyways. Well I did what my instinct told me to do anyways.
It was a heated kiss, an inexplicably unexplainable one which made me more of a nervous wreck.
We pulled apart, panting and Jayden showed me his signature smirk. Did he ever smile? I'd rarely seen him smile.
"How about that? How was that for a first kiss?" He asked me, looking directly in my eyes. I held his gaze bravely and replied,
"It was-" I didn't get time to finish before he smacked his lips on mine again.
So I haven't kissed anyone for seventeen years and then all of a sudden I'm in my what? Seventh kiss already?
When we pulled away this time, Jayden kissed my forehead tenderly and smirked. "That should give you a better memory."
My fingers immediately went to my lips and a big smile was planted on my face without my consent, as well as a ginger blush was making itself visible.
I already missed the way his lips felt on my lips, and I knew this was bad but I couldn't help but like him. He wasn't a bad boy, no. He was just reckless.
He didn't start fires, he didn't have tattoos, he didn't do drugs. The only thing he had done was have alcohol. Cody has also had alcohol so? Almost everyone has it. I'm in the minority though. I have not touched even a drop of that stuff. I haven't even seen him smoke.
And he wasn't someone who has total disregard for the rules. Of course, he must've followed them at one point, but then he didn't feel comfortable.
And I agree. The rules are pretty restricting. But he wasn't someone that would put his life in danger, like by smoking or doing drugs. He broke the rules in a rebel way, but not in a way that good end his life, and the lives of many around him.
But the thing about reckless? It could leave you heartbroken by the click of a finger. And that was what scared me the most. I'd spent so long to build the walls and the barricades around me, I forgot to leave a door. So instead allowing a person to walk into my life, they'd first have to break me.
"Have I just made the Alexis Baxter blush?" He asked me, snapping me out of my little thoughts process and made me blush hardcore.
"Shut up." I pinched him in the stomach and he did the same to me. And that's how I role and how I want us to role.
The rest of the day passed by us watching the replay of Real Madrid vs Barcelona match and occasionally jumping up and down at the goals that were made. And also there was a very strong hating of the referee.

Heyyyy! So quick reminder, yes I do update on Saturdays. I had a bit of writers block, especially after Wattpad had deleted this chapter numerous times.
To be honest, I think the first one or this one were the better pick but I like how this one turned out. The first one had a few different events like the kiss wasn't like that but I just did what I wanted. I mean I am the author.
Now, the next few chapters are actually written and I plan on double updating. Just give me an hour or two 😘
QOTD:
Is it football or soccer?
